“freehand hostel - amazing place for someone who gets it :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We booked a super 8 and a quad for a group of 10 (all females - early 20s) and we were so pleased with what we received. First of all, the director of sales, Anne, came out and greeted us and that set the stage for everything else. She was so nice and informative about what the hostel offered and what Miami had to offer. The lobby was really cute and the outside area was beautiful!! They had chairs and tables set up everywhere, a pool, ping pong table, and some other games. Our rooms looked great...sure they're kind of small but they served their purpose. The beds were comfortable and big and it helped that each bunk had it's own light and outlet. The bathrooms were also small, but again they served their purpose. Continental breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, fruits, croissants, and muffins...they had enough for all 10 of us and more. The location was in a quieter area but it was just a 5 to 10 minute car ride to everything else. There's a parking lot next door and they offer parking passes for $10 a day...very convenient. The customer service here was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone!!! It was a great value!

Cheers :)

PS: The Broken Shaker was exceptional!

“Great hotel for the right people!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

The Freehand hotel had a really chilled out atmosphere. I would not recommend it for a romantic getaway or family trip--but for me and my 20-some year old friends it was our kind of scene. The room is a dorm room--small with super comfortable bunk beds. It didn't have a television--which you don't need in Miami anyway--or shampoo/conditioner--for sale at front desk--but the price was right and we didn't spend much time in the room. The hotel lobby is a relaxed hang out, and, even on a Monday night, there was partying in the 'back yard'--complete with a pool, ping pong tables, and a bar specializing in mixology. It is in a safe location, a block from the beach, and about 15 blocks to the main strip of bars and restaurants in South Beach. If you want to experience South Beach Miami on a budget--this is the place to be! (Just make sure you are renting a room//not a bed//unless you are looking for a hostel!)

Room Tip: The elevator is out of service//so if you plan to take a lot of baggage request a lower floor

“The BEST VALUE in Miami Beach. Period.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Barely two months old, this place is a true gem in Miami Beach. Close enough to the craziness of South Beach but far enough that you can actually find quiet time. Though initially quite easy to miss if you were on the driver's seat looking for the address while your GPS is telling you that "you've arrived at your destination", once you've found parking (not always easy) and made your way to the entrance, walking into this place will catch you off guard with delight. The decor is contemporary with a hint of shabby chic, without the snottiness of South Beach. The lobby is inviting not only for the backpackers that are caught by surprise that actually IS a hostel, but also to the locals who pass through in high heels and short skirts to get to its hip (and really popular on saturdays) mixology bar, Broker Shaker, located in the garden area.
The dorm rooms (either 4 or 8 bed) are what you'd expect from a dorm room with regards to bunk beds, shared table spaces, and lockers, but have elements of small luxury that one wouldn't expect in a hostel - already prepped beds with fresh linens, daily fresh towel, personal "cubby holes" with outlets next to the head of the bed, and an actually ample sized & comfortable mattress. They even managed to line one side of the bed on the wall with a slightly angled cushion so that you can rest your upper back or neck while watching a flick on your ipad or reading a book. Clearly they thought about "the little things" that hardened backpackers would notice as luxury immediately.
And for the price? Though dorm beds are a little more pricey than those in hostels in parts of eastern europe, south america, and asia, IT IS, after all, Miami Beach. It costs less than staying at a buddy's place downtown or midtown for free, paying for valet parking in their building, and hopping a cab back and forth to the clubs in the beach AND way less than paying for a tiny old room in an Art Deco on Ocean Drive.
Overall - the attention to detail, the comfortable beds, the hotspot mixology, the price, the location, and the almost hipster-ish VIBE (there's ping pong tables and bocci ball courts as well) make this the best value for money in Miami Beach.

“Hey it's worth it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I'm a freshman in college thus I am underage to check into a hotel and don't make much money. I love staying at the hostel because it's really inexpensive, they have breakfast (a cool variety of breakfast foods at that), the rooms are clean, it's decorated really nicely, the pool area is nice and fun, and the front desk is really helpful. For example, at four a.m. someone was playing PIANO and it woke me up, so I called the front desk to tell them to stop and the person stopped! It's also nice because right across the street is the beach, a food mart, and Subway. It's not far from downtown at all either. If you're used to a dorm then this will be fine for you considering other people will be in the same room. If not, then there's always private rooms available! Definitely going again. WOO Spring break!!!!!

Room Tip: Try to be farther down the hall away from the main doors. You will hear less commotion. Also, if you...
