“Location, location, location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This hotel is at the same complex as the Cleveland Hotel, where there a very lively bar. But, as Essex House is in the opposite side you hear no noise.
Being a one block from the beach and close to many bar and restaurants, this hotel has the location as one of its best characteristics. But staff is also VERY nice, and always ready to help, and the rooms are (at lest mine) OK.

Stayed here 3 nights after a trip to the Carribean. Room was small and pool was small but very nice. Free cont. breakfast ( nothing great but nice ) and a one hour free wine happy hour ( 1 glass) But that is fantastic for Miami Beach. Friendly, fun, parking is crazy, 82.00 for 3 days! Had a good time. Bring lots of money if you go to Miami!

Block from the beach and nightlife on ocean drive, retro glam, nice staff, the suites are reasonably priced with modern decor and large 2 person jacuzzi tubs, free continental breakfast, WiFi, close to everything, decent rooms, comfortable beds, very charming yet modern rooms, part of the clevelander hotel but the nicer side and MUCH quieter, keep in mind its an older hotel so its not perfect but it's pretty good, no pool or gym only restaurant is sushi bar

Just returned from a two night post cruise stay in Miami. This was meant to be an add on and ended up being the highlight of our holiday. We had decided we wanted to be "in the thick of it" in Sobo and most definitely wanted to stay in an Art Deco property. Essex House was perfect for us. A tranquil base in an iconic building just one block away from the frenetic Ocean Drive. some reviewers complaining about the hotel being old fashioned just make me laugh - what to you expect? If you want modern you need to go somewhere else. We stayed in suite 12 which is on the ground floor overlooking the garden. Very big - huge bathroom - and very quiet if a little dark because of the tree outside. Two massive beds but strangely very little clothes storage and no safe. Good coffee machine. The staff here are excellent and very helpful. Lovely little bar where you can get a complimentary glass of wine at sushi early evening (bit too early for us) and a surprisingly good continental breakfast in the morning. Absolutely exceptional lobby! Enjoyed sitting on the front porch people watching. So very sad to be home and we very much hope to return.

Room Tip: Suites are quiet and spacious.

Just arrived home from a great stay at the Essex House. I chose this hotel based on the reviews and the proximity to the Cleveland house in case my fiancee and I wanted to party it up.

The hotel is not extremely glamorous but that is the architecture theme in the area. The bed is advertised as a queen but I am fairly certain it was a double bed. The room does not have a safe and the bathroom is very tight with little to no counter space. The pool area is tiny and pretty shaded. We snuck in to other hotels to hang by their pool instead. The room was a bit loud in the evening due to the Cleveland house but we did not mind this. A party bus dropped off a slew of people around midnight and they were very loud walking in. We were not turned off by this as this is SOBE and I don't blame drunk people from being loud, it is what it is..

We found the room very clean and the happy hour is a nice touch too. The continental breakfast is good. Breads, peanut butter, cream cheese, croissants, fruit and juices.

We had a rental car and rather than pay $35 for valet we found a lot on Collins and 13th for $20 per night. It is a 4 minute walk from the hotel. WIN!

Great location if you want to be on Southbeach with a short walk to the beach. The rooms are pretty dated, no fridge, no safe and very noisy (old) aircon I was actually a little disappointed at how dated it was and the lack of a safe as it wasnt the cheapest place on SB

This hotel is in a great location and is very near Miami beach. It looks great from the outside, but inside is in dire need of refurbishment. The staff are excellent, however, particularly Loaine, who looked after us exceptionally well during our stay. The rooms are OK and quiet for their location, but they are grubby and smell of damp and mildew. Ours gave me an allergic reaction. The showers do not always work properly and breakfast is basic, but OK. I would not stay there again, and on the whole, the place is definitely 'average'.
