“Good if you get it in a deal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

Hotel Avalon is again yet another Art deco style hotel on the ocean drive.
Retains the old building and style and gives a retro outlook.
It is right where the party happens all day and night long.
Rooms are of decent size and cleanliness is appreciable.
Offers valet parking only and it is 27$ per day.Came as a surprise for us.
Driving in and out of it the ocean drive needs patience though.
Breakfast was very much average.
Got a pretty good deal for a long weekend night so no complains.

Dear Logesh,

Thank you so much for your review. We are so happy to hear that you had a wonderful stay with us and will return home with good memories of your stay at The Avalon Hotel. A little note on the parking situation; we suggest in the future to take advantage of self parking which is only two blocks down for a little less price than the valet. We are looking forward to welcoming you back. Please make sure to book directly with us in order to receive rates lower than you will find on other travel sites.

Warmest Regards,

Staff and Management Avalon Hotel

The Avalon hands down is one of the most accomondating serviceable hotels, I ever had the pleasure of staying in. It's art deco all the way, it gives a nostalgic feeling. Ana was great, she made us feel really welcome.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

After countless hours of exhausting research, I used Priceline to bid on a South Beach location hotel of at least 3 stars. My bid was $193.00 (taxes & fees made the total $228.63). This was a major splurge for me and for just 1 night.

The hotel offers valet parking only but I learned ahead of time to park in a nearby garage for less. The walk was about 2 blocks and saved me a good $10.00.

Entrance to the hotel is up several steps and it would have been nice if someone had opened a door for me as I was carrying all of my luggage alone. The same could be said for when I left.

My room was on the 2nd floor , in the back of the hotel, over the restaurant with a view of the alley below and some lovely dumpsters. There's an entry way, hall closet with a safe, the bedroom, and a bathroom with many cool toiletries. As I was looking around and went to adjust the air conditioner, I saw what looked like black mold on the vents. I called down to the front desk and they sent a guy up right away.

Unfortunately, he thought a paper towel and window cleaner got rid of mold. He wiped off a smidge and asked if it was okay. As I said no, the phone rang and a manager said she was switching me to another room. The guy went downstairs and came back with a key to my new room, same floor, facing Ocean Dr. What an upgrade!

The oceanfront room had a different layout and was a little smaller but it was lovely. I was in line with the hotel marquee and the windows opened. Just sitting at the little table with chairs watching people go by was relaxing.

The bed was large and very comfortable. You can make use of the robe in the closet. and the Keurig machine in each room. At night things are very lively on the sidewalks, even on a Wednesday. I wore ear plugs as suggested by another reviewer and slept soundly.

I need to state that the oceanfront room's air conditioner also had some black mold by was attached to the wall up high. What they need is a professional cleaning with bleach. Other than that, the rooms are clean and maintained.

The location can't be beat. It is central to everything in South Beach, restaurants, shops, parking, the beach, night clubs, museums, and tours.

The staff is very friendly and upbeat. The complimentary breakfast is nice, more upscale than a chain hotel. It's European style with multiple tropical juice selections.

I didn't see a ramp and asked how someone using a wheelchair would enter and was told there was a ramp around back. I'm not sure it would be easy for someone to navigate the smaller rooms. You might want to ask about measurements.

Room Tip: I doubt any room is quiet given street noise, trash pick ups and the first floor restaurant. Bring e...

If you want an authentic retro South Beach experience, I highly recommend this property. Right in the heart of the trendy art deco district, the location is second to none.

The rooms are clean and appointed with retro style furniture. Beds are comfortable and nicely appointed with crisp luxury linens and fluffy towels. The toiletries provided are high end. A pleasant surprise was the fridge in the closet and the waffle wave guest robes.

The customer service is 5 star! From the check in process and throughout the entire stay, the staff exceeded expectations. George at the front desk was extremely accommodating and the property is lucky to have such dedicated and genuine staff.

Our room faced Ocean Drive and the view was perfect. This is South Beach so if you are sensitive to noise, ask for a room facing the rear of the building. However for us, the beach view
overshadowed the nighttime reverie.

It's important to note that this is an authentic art deco property, not a new one that was built to look retro so the rooms are smaller and the bathrooms are the original style. The overall ambiance of the hotel is shabby chic so keep that in mind and take a journey into the past.

The parking options are limited and the cost is appropriate for urban environments. The hotel offers valet parking.

Directly across the street is the public beach and towels are provided. They do not have any chaise loungers on the beach but you have access to their sister property, the South Seas which is located on the beach and about 10 block north, The South Seas has a lovely pool area and lounge area providing a nice view of the beach.

If you are taking a cruise out of the port of Miami, the Avalon is a good choice for a pre or post cruise visit.

My husband and I stayed here while in a 22 hour layover coming from the Caribbean. Upon arrival, the staff was just amazing and made us feel very welcomed. We had a very nice, quaint room overlooking the street. We were so tired that we stayed in the window a lot enjoying the scenery of people! We definitely enjoyed our stay at The Avalon Hotel, will visit again, and highly recommend it.

My family and I stayed at the Avalon on a Saturday night. 2 Queen beds were comfortable. The rooms are small but clean. Nicely appointed with refrigerator, safe. The staff (Anna and George at the front desk, Ruben as head bellman, and others) were absolutely amazing - friendly, sincere and always eager to help. The breakfast, included, was really very nice and adequate. The rooms and hallways are not fancy - if you want that I recommend another hotel. If you want a tremendous value, comfortable (not roomy) room, this is it. I recommend two Cuban restaurants - one around the corner is authentic Cuban diner style. The other is a longer walk: Havana 1957 - great food and energy with reasonable prices - make a reservation!

I am not sure i have ever had better customer service than what I had at this hotel this past week! Ana & Jorge went out of their way to make our group feel welcomed and comfortable. There was always a hi, have a great day, or the helping hand no matte the situation. Top of the notch! Could have asked for a better stay. Thank you Ana and Jorge! Thank you so much!
