On day one we go to our hotel and calling it ghetto would be a compliment. Here is the short list of the problems with it, bearing in mind this is the list of amenities:
· There was no front desk at the property to even check in. We got there and had to call a phone number listed on the front gate. Some random lackey on the property then simply pointed to a random apartment and said it was ours.
· The random sketchy guy in the courtyard just watching bring in our stuff made us feel less than comfortable.
· Once inside the room, the door was as flimsy as the interior bedroom door in our apartment. It had a simple handle, again with a simple interior door type lock and no deadbolt. With the door closed you could easily see light around the entire thing. I am not kidding when I say a child could have broken through with it locked.
· There was one sheet on the bed, and it wasn't the 300 thread count they boast. There wasn't a single comforter in the place, let alone a down one.
· The pillows consisted of two small, flat bed pillows and two filthy couch cushions.
· The stove looked like a fire hazard.
· The closet reeked of mold and Liz is allergic to mold.
· The complimentary wireless internet was a weak, unsecured wireless signal from a random property nearby. There was no alarm clock, CD/DVD player, hair dryer, or in room safe.
· Free local calls would have been nice… had there been a phone in the room.
· The water from the shower was yellow.
· The "free parking" explanation we had was that the no trespassing sign in the cramped side lot was for "something else".
· The floor was filthy
· Toiletries included two soap slivers and a bottle of hand soap.
· There wasn't a single person on the premises that identified themselves as an employee of this hotel. No one ever seemed to know what was going on, and fortunately my wife is fluent in Spanish to speak with the random faceless person on the phone.
Long story short, do not stay at the Villa Harding. We were forced to scramble to find a place, and since it was spring break for many schools almost everything decent was booked through the weekend. Luckily, a very good friend lived int he area and let us crash there until better accomodations could be found
