“Wonderful service and perfect location in the Grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

We just returned from our fifth trip to Coconut Grove/Miami, and our first time staying at the Mutiny. It was everything we hoped for and more! In the past, we've stayed for more than a week and so rented a small apartment, but this visit was just a few days so we opted for the hotel experience. While the Mutiny was a little more than what we would usually spend, it was so worth it in so very many ways.

First of all, service when booking was superb. Melody at the front desk explained all of the options to me as well as the various prices, and was tremendously helpful when I mentioned that this was our first visit to Miami in some time so we were hoping for a room with a lovely view. She recommended calling the morning we were to check in, when they assign the rooms, and she also put a note on our reservation so they would take my request into consideration.

When we arrived, the valet took our car quickly along with our name, and reported on his headset that we were checking in. This meant that the front desk was prepared for us as soon as we walked in the door, which was terrific. The check-in process was very quick as we had prepaid one night, and within minutes we were in our room. It was beautiful! The floors were all tile, which made the room feel cool and airy. When I had made the reservation, Melody had asked which temperature we would like the room to be upon arrival, and it was perfect. She had also asked which type of pillow we preferred, which I thought was a nice touch. We had a deluxe one bedroom, with a very comfortable king-size bed and a balcony. The view was great! Although technically a partial view (all the full views are from the two-bedroom suites in the front of the building), we could see the marina and a good deal of the bay, and even the Biltmore hotel in Coral Gables if we leaned out and looked in the other direction!

Everyone at the hotel was so friendly. Our housekeeper, Mayra, was delightful and arranged our daughter's stuffed animals in a different way every day. The last day, she left her a box of pear juice, which was very thoughtful. The front desk staff were helpful whenever we called with any question. Humberto in particular was very kind when I was on a quest for coffee filters. The full kitchen was outfitted with pots, knives, and a cutting board - we could have made a full meal if I had been inclined to cook. :) The valet parking was very efficient and reasonably priced - it made us feel a bit like royalty, too, and had it rained during our visit it would have been even more convenient.

Our last night, we ordered room service from Atchana's Kitchen, which was very tasty. The food arrived quickly and hot, the gentleman who delivered it set everything up at our dining table, and when we were finished they picked up the dishes quickly as well.

The location is perfect - a five minute (if that) walk to everything Coconut Grove has to offer, directly across the street from Peacock Park and the water. The pool area is beautiful and serene. If my husband and I had not had our daughter with us, we definitely would have had a drink one night by the pool, with the fairy lights lit and the waterfall running! As it was, we enjoyed a glass of wine on our balcony with our lovely view, and counted ourselves very, very fortunate to be staying at the Mutiny. We hope to stay there again next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor. "Partial" bay view rooms still have a wonderful view, an...

“Fabulous visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

I loved this unique hotel. The suite concept was perfect for us. We had a great view of the water. The service was top notch. One of the best things the hotel has going for it is the pool area. There are great tuck away areas to read and/or work under the foliage. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice and it was great each time. In addition, it is a very short walk to the heart of Coconut Grove.

Dear florala,
We are so happy to read your review of your recent stay at The Mutiny Hotel. There were so many positive highlights, it is clear you took advantage of what our hotel has to offer. Two of our best selling points are our proximity to the historic Coconut Grove central district and the hidden gem of our pool area. I see you also upgraded to a view of the sailing club and harbor along with a few visits to our exquisite Thai restaurant. We are happy your stay was complete and hope to meet you during your next stay in the Coconut Grove area.

“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

After consulting Tripadvisor, we booked The Mutiny for two nights to accommodate our family of four prior to a cruise. With so many mixed reviews, we were not sure what to expect, but the price was so much better than other places near the water that we decided to risk it. The first night we stayed in a one-bedroom deluxe. The suite was attractive and quite roomy.

Our trouble began once we went to use the sofa bed. There was hair on the sheets when we opened it up. We called down to the main desk and a security guard delivered us some new sheets. After making up the bed, our two adult daughters tried to sleep on it. One ended up sleeping in a chair for part of the night and the other crawled in to the very comfortable king bed the next morning to try and catch up on some sleep.

We requested an upgrade to a two bedroom for the next and final night. We could not get an answer as to whether that would be possible. We were told to pack our stuff up when we went out and the staff would move it when and if a room became available. We were to be called to confirm. We left a note with our suitcases asking the staff to also move all our groceries that were packed up and in the fridge.

When we returned about five, the front desk did not know any thing about the request, but was able to accommodate us in a two bedroom. When we returned to the old room we found that all our groceries were gone, the cleaning staff having misunderstood our note.

The two bedroom suite was extremely spacious and very comfortable. We all had a great night's sleep there.

We still think this hotel is a great value for the location, even with losing about $60 worth of groceries. It could be improved by upgrading the sofa beds and better equipping the kitchens. I always assumed that a full kitchen would provide at least a few pots and some cooking knives for some simple meal preparations.

Room Tip: The sofa beds are uncomfortable for one person and unusable for two. If four are travelling, suggest...

Dear FLWfans,
I would like to first thank you for reviewing The Mutiny Hotel. All constructive reviews are highly scrutinized by our management team and staff in an attempt to evolve our service in a positive way. I am very sorry to hear that the sofa bed in the initial room you checked into was uncomfortable. We have addressed this issue and are in the process of improving not only the sofa bed in the room you stayed in but also throughout the hotel. The management team was made aware of your particular issue which is why we know the rooms in question. This leads me to the communication, or lack thereof, issue which turned your situation from a manageable one to a great inconvenience. For that, we would also like to offer our sincerest apology. Effective communication is vital in ensuring a guest’s stay is exceptional. It appears your situation might have been resolved well if we had addressed your concern efficiently and effectively. We have used your situation in our monthly meeting and hope to never encounter this breakdown in communication again with new policies that we have put in place. Thank you again for taking the time to review The Mutiny Hotel. Your review highlighted some of positives of our hotel and would like for you and your party to return to our hotel so you may see how your constructive criticism has improved our product and service. We hope to see you soon!

“Love the Mutiny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We were in Miami for a family wedding, and were thrilled to find the Mutiny Hotel..travelling with 3 adults, the suites are perfect. Single brother had privacy in "living room" area, while we (married couple) enjoyed our comfy king bed in bedroom. The pull-out queen sofa worked perfectly for brother. Full kitchen, lots of closet space, and balcony overlooking pool, fabulous. The pool, ahhh. A tropical oasis, worth EVERY PENNY, tiki torches lit every night, hot tub, mature tropical foliage, pile of large towels to use, waterfall, koi pond, never wanted to leave. The little cafe is good, (vegetable egg rolls delish), pool-side service. Walk to awesome Coconut Grove nightlife, stone's throw from Vizcaya.
The staff is wonderful, hotel is spotless and smells so good in the lobby. It is not a new hotel, but is updated and pretty, with character galore. Other family stayed next door at Sonesta Bay Resort, which was fine, but they wished they had OUR hotel! Will stay nowhere else in future Miami visits.

Room Tip: I think some of the rooms don't have balconies, ask for room with one.
