“Great Weekend in the Grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

This is a great hotel for the price and location. We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the 6th floor. Overall, the room was great. I was surprised that it came with a full kitchen including a dishwasher. The room looked newly decorated but could use a little update in the bathroom. The staff was great and very helpful. The onsite Thai restaurant was amazing. When you ask for hot, you get hot! The pool area was great because it included outdoor seating for the restaurant. If you get hungry you can slide up to a table and order whatever you wanted. They also did a great job with the landscaping to add a sense of seclusion to the pool area.

Overall, Coconut Grove is a great place to relax for a few days. They have some great restaurants near the hotel so we didn't need a car for the entire trip. We used the new Orange Line train from MIA and walked everywhere else. One word of caution if using the train. There are 2 stops for Coconut Grove (Coconut Grove and Douglas Road). DO NOT use the Douglas Road station. You will have to cross through a VERY rough neighborhood to get to the Grove. My fiance was heckled non stop by people on the street, there were drug dealers on the corners and prostitution in broad daylight (11am). After asking some local people and a very helpful police officer we were warned to never go through that area again and that we were lucky we made it without any issue. The Coconut Grove station was the opposite in a beautiful safe area with only a 1 mile walk or short bus ride to the main Grove area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher levels facing the bay.

Dear TAN00KI,

As I read your comments I can see that you were immersed in your Mutiny experience, thus you were able to enjoy our pristine, secluded pool and our great fare at Atchana's East West Kitchen. And yes, spicy is a sacred word at Atchana's, I am a fan myself.
I will also tell you that you are not the first guest to be amazed at the size of our suites. In Coconut Grove, our beautifully decorated and fully furnished suites, along with our proximity to the main attractions in the area, truly sets us apart.
Thank you for kind words and we hope to have you soon with us.
Sincerely,
Juan-Manuel Valera III

We worked with The Mutiny Hotel to organize a university reunion for classmates from the Class of 1950 over a three night stay. The accommodation was excellent and above all the courteous and kind attention we received was second to none. The intimate environment and the beautiful surrounding made it so special. A pool-side welcome reception and farewell breakfast was arranged at Atchana's, the in-house restaurant. The hors d'oeuvres were outstanding and Atchana herself took so much trouble to make sure that we were comfortable and went beyond what we expected in terms of the special personal service she and her staff gave us. This group of seniors found the hotel to have all the facilities for their comfort and convenience. The location was perfect for all our visits in the Miami area. We would return with great pleasure.

Room Tip: The hotel is a hybrid of hotel accommodation and a kind of time share situation. Therefore not all...

We stayed here during our wedding which was held next door at the Women's club. The hotel staff was great from the begining. Anca got all our last minute guests into the hotel at our group rate and every loved their rooms. The staff was incredibly accomidating to our party for my bridal shower which was held at the pool and our photo session which was also held out at the pool. They did a great job of even allowing many of our guests to check in early because they were flying cross country. We had a wonderful weekend and so glad we choose the mutiny they kept all our guests happy!!

we should tell people what was this place all about in the 70's and early 80's....the hotel had all different theme rooms..great food...and any night you could find yourself seating by General noriega's and his Cocaine crew...or Carlos Lehder...one of the Founders of the Medellin ...Escobar was probably saw there too...Cartel...or Willy Falcon and Sal Maglutta , Miami Drug lords at the time or Jose Alvero Cruz and his Crew...this place was the place where all drug related people used to meet...cocaine and maps on the tables...specially in the second floor....the Mutiny was the best of the best discos places during those years....best music, best rooms and best cuisine...it all started at 9pm with the song " Illusions" every single night...at 9PM illusions.....that was the prelude song to a wild night in the grove during the early 80's and the Cocaine days of miami...places like this will never come back..it was fun fun and more fun...from beatiful ladies to coke to dom Perignon to a $45 huge Lobter thermidor and a $8 Long island ice tea....Remenber we are talking 80's here...the Membership card had the most cool logo on earth....you had to be 25...they had a X Adults show at 12 midnight daily....bottom line...i dont know what the munity looks like currently...but in the late 70 's early 80's it was the best of the creme...not even Regine's and their prices atracted more people and drugs...After someone got killed on a sat night...place went cold...and Suzannes opened, then Cats near Faces...then later on they opened Insing bitters, a place they made looking like the old Mutiny with the Fish tank in the middle , even some of the same Bartenders were working there...nobody who used to go to the mutiny will ever forget those times.....many are dead, in prison or just retired from everything....he he he he he and i mean Everything! Viva The Mutiny!!!

We're regular customers of the Mutiny. All the rooms vary as they appear to be individually owned hence some are in better condition than the next. I find that the rooms need to be maintained better so that everything works correctly (faucets, lights etc) and also need to be cleaned better.

Overall it's usually a pretty good deal for all the amenities the rooms have.

Room Tip: go for a room with a view otherwise you may end up at the back facing the carpark

The Mutiny is located on Bayshore Blvd in Coconut Grove providing the best location for overlooking the Bay and Parks. This is our second stay and we were even more impressed with the room, view, location and service. Everyone on staff was very courteous
Hotel is clean. Special shout out for our cleaning attendant Mayra who best ever met in numerous hotel stays

Before evening entering the hotel it felt magical it was like a magical get away from everything. Upon entering the hotel you cannot help but notice the elegant details all around you as well as the beautiful art sounding the hotel. The entire ambiance was full of romance definitely the perfect retreat for couples. The pool area is closed off by the restaurant with a mini waterfall near the it giving it a wonderful view to look at while enjoying your meal. It is worth upgrading to a view suite sitting out side eating breakfast while enjoying the beauty of the sun rising in front of you just takes your breath away. It feels almost as if it is in the middle of no where yet you are walking distance from virtually everything theaters, stores, restaurants. It even gives you the convenience of bringing groceries to your room upon request.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Few destinations can boast such a distinctive and colorful character as Coconut Grove. In the heart of this tropical paradise sits The Mutiny Hotel, a luxurious all-suite property neighboring the pristine waters of Biscayne Bay. A bright swatch of coral set against the intensely blue South Florida sky, the Mutiny's 12-story tower epitomizes the South Florida style; vibrant colors compliment chic accommodations elegantly decorated in a modern-lavish motif. Long a playground for the elite, The Grove - as it is known by locals - is also a second home to many celebrities, artists, and jetsetters. Its entertainment and shopping district reflects the quirky-yet-sophisticated nature of its residents, and visitors can find everything from haute couture to haughty kitsch in the many shops at CocoWalk, steps from The Mutiny's front door. After all, where else can you see stars in broad daylight, dance through an island festival, and enjoy dinner at a funky cafe? Only at The Mutiny. ... more   less
