When choosing our Miami hotel we were horrified at the typical prices for anything that wasn't a fleapit, so we started looking a little beyond Miami Beach and central Miami. The reviews of The Mutiny Hotel gave us some hope that it would be a good choice and we were mostly very satisfied.

Coconut Grove has a quiet suburb feel - typical North American villagey style (though it still manages rubbish like Hooters). There are a few decent restaurants (check reviews!) and some fastfood places. A decent smallish supermarket is a short walk from the hotel along the waterfront road.

The danger with choosing to stay some distance from the centre of a US destination is the usual lack of public transport options (we weren't driving). We researched our options before deciding on The Mutiny and were surprised/relieved to see that there was a local bus that connected Coconut Grove with two Metrorail stations. From there we could get to Downtown Miami and then onwards by bus to Miami Beach (total travel time about 60 mins). The Mutiny is a bit more than a mile from Coconut Grove Station, so we walked most of the time, catching the local bus on occasion. The biggest downside? The local bus didn't coordinate well with the train sometimes, and Metrorail was definitely seedy at times (the worst place is actually the interchange to the buses at Government Center).

Our apartment was a great size and we were very happy with the kitchen facilites. The bathroom had a few quirks, but was ok, and housekeeping sometimes forgot to leave detergent (but at other times actually put the dishwasher on for us unexpectedly). From other reviews it seems that the state of the rooms varies a lot, in part depending on whether the rooms are hotel- or individually-owned. I would make a point of asking for a quiet room, as the hotel sees a lot of wedding parties.

We found staff to be generally helpful.

Stayed for one night for our anniversary with baby. The staff were very hospitable and genuine. We were upgraded to a room with a view of the bay and a bottle of champagne. Rooms were clean and bed extremely comfortable. We will definetely be back.

I stayed at the Mutiny for a week in October. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the service and the accommodation. I believe the Hotel is a Condo Hotel so I can imagine there may be some minor differences between suites, but I believe they are all of a high standard.
There is everything you could want for both a business and vacation stay; Wifi, covered parking, pool, and an excellent Asian restaurant onsite that served some of the tastiest meals I have had in the US in a long time.
The staff also deserve a special mention.It seems almost unfair to single out anyone as everyone provided a family, home-from-home atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble to make ones stay more enjoyable. From Melody on the front desk to all the concierges, bellboys and valets, the service they provided would make even a 5-star luxury hotel proud.
The area is wonderful with a small fresh market close by, the marina and park for neighbours, as well as all that Coconut Grove has to offer in terms of bars, restaurants shops and even cinemas.
You will certainly be seeing much more of me, as well as all my friends and colleagues, in the very near future.

After hours, more like days of scouring the internet to find a hotel that met all of our requirements in Miami, I settled for this hotel.
At first I was planning to stay in SOuth Beach, but with our 7 year old daughter in tow I thought it maybe a bit too loud and full-on.Having visited Southe Beach (which we all loved for a daytrip!) I was SOOO right, and the ability to come back to this little oasis in the hustle and bustle of a big city was fantastic!
We arrived at night, and spent our first evening in our swimmers round the pool and the hot tub.It was so hot, even at 10pm and the hotels relaxed vibe meant we could sit drinking beers while we bathed. England with its rain and grey skies seemed a world away.
Our room was fab-big and had all mod cons and we slept really well.
The staff could not have been more accommodating, and the local area of Coconut Grove was cool and funky and safe to wander around in, without being too full on.
I would definitely return here (and I am a fusspot!).
