“Great Double Tree Next to Miami Airport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2011

My wife and I stayed here on Thanksgiving night and we used our Hilton Honors Points to book the room and were upgraded to a very nice Junior Suite. The room had a king sized bed with a large sitting area with couch and chiars. The bathroom was clean and nice sized. We didn't go for the breakfast buffet but instead ordered off of the menu and were both very pleased. The Bellman was very helpful and took care of our transfer to the cruise port the next day.

This is a very large and impersonal business style hotel, with rather dated public areas. The room that we stayed in was also very dated though extremely large. The hotel was very adequate and well priced however whilst there was nothing to particularly dislike about the experience of staying there nor was there anything that was particularly appealing. The 3.5 star rating is probably accurate.

Was here for the air and sea cargo conference. Excellent service and accomodations.
Close to Coral Gables and downtown.

Never had any noise from the airport whatsoever.

Room Tip: Higher floors recommended.

I booked this last minute as I got bumped from my flight. It's Hilton @ a reduced fee. Staff are so friendly , which is v unusual for Miami. I your ever stuck @ MIA , honestly this is the place to stay. I'm airline crew , I should know as hotels are my life.

The shuttle wait was a little to long 45 minutes before the shuttle showed up. the hotel is tucked right up to a mall. There is a hall connecting the hotel to a mall. Unfortunately we were not able to go to the mall.
We checked in close to 6 pm and the mall closes at 6 pm which we thoght was kind of stupid to close this early in the evening.

I fly out of Sea-Tac (SEA) multiple times per year and always stay at the tiki-70’s DoubleTree. The service is on-the-money, the facilities well kept and the experience consistent. I expected the same from the brand in Miami, but didn’t totally find in every area.

The hotel tittered between a classy DoubleTree and not-fully-up-to-par airport hotel. Here’s why:

GOOD
- I am forever indebted to DT for their chewy yet crispy and sweet yet savory {warmed} chocolate cookie. Aside from a ultra-luxe hotel I stayed at in Australia that offered guests Veuve Cliquot on arrival, DT’s cookies are the second best welcome amenity!
- Free wifi in lobby {good enough to make a skype call}
- The front desk staff were greeted with a pontoon of people waiting to check-in and handled it with grace and care. They were welcoming and good customer service ambassadors.
- The lobby bar, outfitted with oversized teal lounge chairs and high-top tables, had good food {sliders!} complimented by happy and efficient service.
- My large room played host to a very comfortable king bed with a lounge chair and desk

WHAT TO KNOW
- Airport shuttle leaves the hotel at every half hour {on the hour and the half hour}
hotel is about 15 mins from the airport
- The hallway leading to my room was tattered and worn with gashes, marks and wallpaper tears in every glance.
- Hotel’s verbiage notes it is renovated, but the decor is confused, part of it is 70s, part 80s, part 90s
- My room’s cleanliness was highly questionable: carpet dirty {not vacuumed, particles all over it}, drain not working, bathtub dirty {soap grime ALL over drain}, stain on bed covers and shower curtain had pulls and large pills all over it. All in all, the hotel's maintenance and lack of attention to detail was its biggest shortfall.
- Doors not soundproof, bring earplugs

Thank you for your insightful review. We are new owners and currently updating all aspects of this hotel from it service levels with a new above and beyond program, new mid-manager level new hires, to our opening of Miami second largest convention center. Our renovations are current so please be patient... that is why you see different levels of decor.
We are listening and improving on every aspect. Thank you for caring.

I stayed 3 nights at the Doubletree MIA airport, attending a conference in the adjacent conference center. It works as a basic hotel to overnight at, but badly needs an overhaul. Interors in some brownish 70s style, maintenance has not been kept up (e.g. fitness room entrance door has no handle, carpets old.etc etc). Poor noise insulation between rooms , I could hear my neighbour talking in his sleep, I later responded with some heavy snoring...Made the mistake of having dinner in the hotel restaurant, waiter got the orders mixed up and eventually served the worst burger I have had anywhere. What's good? My wifi did work fine, and service in the bar was good.

All in all, if you have a choice, go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Go high, you get nice views of the Miami skyline

Firstly, Thank you for writing a complete review (accolades and concerns). We are the new owner's working fast and furriest to get this property up to your expectations.
Our wi-fi is currently being replaced with Hilton's Stay connected systems. It is one of the best and will be fully functioning by December. Our rooms are currently undergoing a full sweep and clean program from maintenance to deep cleaning. DoubleTree itself launched it re-branding and we are retransforming as we speak. It seems you experienced our new guest service program targeting our staff with "Above and Beyond" service training. The rooms are large but the bathrooms are part of the architecture of it's time. We can only improve the looks and quality at this time. We added the new vanity under the sinks, upgraded the in room coffee service to Wolfgang puck and Evelyn and Crabtree body and hair care products. Our lobby is being redone, new elevators, and we are in the final process of our new convention center. Everyday is a step to improving our guest stay. Visit again in the near future, I would love the opportunity to read a follow up stay review on trip advisor.
