“Ups and Downs---Decent at the Government Rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2010

I stayed for two (weekday) nights at the Embassy Suites in Miami for a business conference. Overall, I was quite happy with my stay as the positives far outweighed the negative.

My suite was very comfortable, everything worked, and was cleaned well daily. The daily newspaper was a nice touch, but the wifi in the rooms costs about $13 a day. There was a beautiful balcony---but not so much as a folding chair on it so it was pretty useless. The pool was also great, very beautiful and very clean.

On the positive side, the breakfast is plentiful, and has hot food. You do have to stand in a (very long) line for even the "buffet" items because they are served by the same people cooking the personal omelets, each of which take several minutes. The restaurant food was also good, but overpriced (but aren't all hotel restaurants?).

The staff varies, as I've found to be the case in almost every hotel, from the truly helpful individuals to those that are clearly working a job and not interested in doing anything beyond the minimum. Twice the public bathrooms ran out of toilet tissue during the conference, and one set of bathrooms seemed to be permanently closed for cleaning. The sound of the airplanes taking off and landing is audible from the rooms, loud enough to be distracting but it didn't keep me up at night.

The manager's "Happy Hour" was a nice touch, with free alcoholic drinks every night for hotel guests around 6pm.

The major downside is the location, which is a hefty cab ride away from everything but the airport, including other restaurants, shopping, or sightseeing.

My wife and I went to Miami for a four day trip to see her son and do some sightseeing. (First time in Miami) Arrived at the hotel about 10AM. We left our one suitcase in area provided and were told by friendly male desk clerk that he would call when room was ready. He called about 1PM to tell us room was ready. Great news, since check-in is not until 3PM and we were tired and wanted to get in the room and unpacked. Our stay was Saturday through Tuesday so we experienced the rush at the breakfast on weekends and the VERY relaxed proceedings on weekdays. The only problem we had regarding breakfast is that although the food is hot when served, it gets cold fast due to the atrium area being very chilly. Suggest you wear either a long sleeve shirt or a sweater. Room was fine...nice and big but the sitting room is dark. This is an airport hotel, people, so if you don't like a lot of noise coming from the sky my advice to you is stay somewhere else. You have HUGE planes coming over the hotel at less than 1000 ft so figure it out.
Very attractive inside and out. I would certainly stay here again for business or pleasure.

The staff were very professional, my room was very clean, and the cleaning service was excelllent..The breakfast buffet was good and the managers reception was nice...good drinks, popcorn and snacks.

Added perks, hotel airport shuttle, shuttle to the nearby mall, and an onsite car rental...

Overall I was very pleased and i will be back again!

Free shuttle service from airport to hotel botched by hotel. After three calls and much time, hotel advised to take a cab to hotel at hotel expense. Must use blue colored cabs for fairly short ride. Nice architecture, worn facility needing refurbishment top to bottom. Room service trays in hallways....still there in the morning. Fair sized room but very dark with old style curtains. Granite countertops, good linens...all else needs major remodel. Hair (not ours) in shower/bath combination. At breakfast, food in hot trays wasn't hot. Somewhat icky synthetic coffee. Fresh fruits available. Shuttle from hotel to port for $10/per person...schedule in advance. Some staff great....some mediocre. Nice business center with free Internet using four terminals. Can print boarding passes. Happy hour included good bottled beer and mixed drinks.

Rooms were marginal. Very crowded at breakfast buffet. Pretty noisy right by airport.

We stayed for one night following our cruise from Fort Lauderdale, we arrived early and the hotel was hopping with activity, they checked in our luggage and called us as soon as our room was available.

They have a pretty pool and very nice fitness facility, it is VERY close to the airport, so the noise of the airport is loud as jets are departing if you are at the pool- not ideal, but we wanted to be close to the airport, and the jets do have to take off, so it wasn't a surprise.

While inside the hotel, there is very little aircraft noise as the atrium is full of fountains and fish ponds, and suprisingly, there was very little if any airplane noise in the large two room suite. Every staff member was friendly and kind.

We both had delicious bacon- blue cheese burger for lunch in the afternoon in the atrium.

The managers reception was very busy from 530-730PM. Despite the number of people attending, the staff members were great and the drink selection was much larger than I expected- value priced alcohol, but they made well-drinks and a good selection of electric iced teas, draft beer and wine etc... and all complimentary.

We had dinner in the steak house after the reception and it was good also. The waitress seemed very eager to make suggestions and everything was good.

Our free shuttle to the airport departed before the full breakfast buffet was available, but the continental breakfast was nice and people were getting breakfast as we were leaving and it looked nice also.

We would stay again if we needed a pre/post hotel.

Thirty Minutes to check-in because they were overbooked even though I had a reservation for months. Desk Attendant had to run up to the fifth floor to see if a clean room was available.

Room was never cleaned by housekeeping. I had to go get towels and toilet paper off the housekeepers cart everyday. Calls to the front desk and housekeeping went to voicemail and calls were never returned.

The common restrooms in the hotel were filthy. Trash was not emptied and no toilet paper.

I have contacted Hilton's customer service several time and all I am getting is lip service minus customer service.

The only pluses is that it is a nice hotel in general and the staff managing the breakfast bar did a good job.
