“Good choice for pre/post cruise hotel near airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2010

We stayed for one night following our cruise from Fort Lauderdale, we arrived early and the hotel was hopping with activity, they checked in our luggage and called us as soon as our room was available.

They have a pretty pool and very nice fitness facility, it is VERY close to the airport, so the noise of the airport is loud as jets are departing if you are at the pool- not ideal, but we wanted to be close to the airport, and the jets do have to take off, so it wasn't a surprise.

While inside the hotel, there is very little aircraft noise as the atrium is full of fountains and fish ponds, and suprisingly, there was very little if any airplane noise in the large two room suite. Every staff member was friendly and kind.

We both had delicious bacon- blue cheese burger for lunch in the afternoon in the atrium.

The managers reception was very busy from 530-730PM. Despite the number of people attending, the staff members were great and the drink selection was much larger than I expected- value priced alcohol, but they made well-drinks and a good selection of electric iced teas, draft beer and wine etc... and all complimentary.

We had dinner in the steak house after the reception and it was good also. The waitress seemed very eager to make suggestions and everything was good.

Our free shuttle to the airport departed before the full breakfast buffet was available, but the continental breakfast was nice and people were getting breakfast as we were leaving and it looked nice also.

We would stay again if we needed a pre/post hotel.

Thirty Minutes to check-in because they were overbooked even though I had a reservation for months. Desk Attendant had to run up to the fifth floor to see if a clean room was available.

Room was never cleaned by housekeeping. I had to go get towels and toilet paper off the housekeepers cart everyday. Calls to the front desk and housekeeping went to voicemail and calls were never returned.

The common restrooms in the hotel were filthy. Trash was not emptied and no toilet paper.

I have contacted Hilton's customer service several time and all I am getting is lip service minus customer service.

The only pluses is that it is a nice hotel in general and the staff managing the breakfast bar did a good job.

My wife and I traveled to Miami, Florida for this year's Orange Bowl. We stayed at this Embassy Suites and experienced probably the most disorganized and rude staff in the hotel industry. Our room was not cleaned for over two days (I finally had to specifically request it), the wait at the front desk was often more than a half hour, and the hotel was generally ill-prepared to handle very many people. We specifically stayed at the Embassy Suites because before booking we asked the hotel staff if a shuttle to Landshark Stadium would be provided. We were told "if enough people need one" that it would be no problem, as they have airport shuttle drivers on staff. The hotel was full of travelers for the game, as evidenced by the fact that two out of three people were wearing their team's clothing, yet when we arrived we were told no shuttles would travel to the game because "it is too expensive". When I suggested that they charge for the ride, it was refused because "we don't have enough drivers". I opened up a complaint with Hilton, only for the manager to leave a curt message at our room restating their position. This is, in a word an awful hotel.

Hotel is really close to Miami airport which is convenient. Rooms are big and fairly comfortable. When we were there however the hotel was full and they seemed understaffed so there were long lines at the front desk and the free breakfast was like a zoo on both mornings we ate there. I would try again to see whether this was just a one off bad experience.

Thank you for your recent review regarding your stay in our hotel.

We are pleased that you found our hotel's proximity to the Miami Airport & Downtown Miami convenient and that your suite was spacious and comfortable.

Our hotel is very popular and especially in high season so the demand our staff is considerable over these times. However, we would like you to know that we are addressing the need for additional staffing during these periods and reconfiguring our breakfast area to better accommodate our multiple suite occupancy.

Please accept my sincere apologies for this inconvenience. We invite you back to visit our hotel in the near future and look forward to showing you a better quality experience on this next visit.

Regards,

I'm actually in the hotel as I type. There has been drunk guys in the atrium area for the past 3 hours screaming, yelling and roaring keeping everyone else in the hotel from sleeping. I do not blame the drunks for being loud, I blame the hotel for not telling them to keep it down for they might not realize how loud they are being. I'm on the room phone trying to reach the front desk for the fourth time and it just rings and rings and rings. After 5 minutes of ringing I just give up. This hotel has potential, but the lack of care for the guests really kills the experience. I'll try calling the front desk for the 6th time now but I doubt I will get any response. Frustrating. If you book here, you are risking not sleeping. I didn't. This is NOT the embassy suites that you would expect. The lack of customer service kills it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel on Tripadvisor.com.

We sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused by the noise in our atrium. At times our guests are enjoying themselves so much that it can get loud for other patrons.

We have shared you review with our Security Department so they can discuss how this can be managed better in the future.

We sincerely hope you will give us another opportunity in the future.

We booked the pre-cruise package which included transport from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the port of Miami the following day. Nobody picked us up at the airport so that was a disappointment, but the rest of the stay was ok. Comfortable beds and good breakfast. The swimming pool was nice. We will probably use this hotel again before or after our next cruise if we get a good deal.

Flew into Miami around 9:30pm. Got our bags and waited for the shuttle. It took about 5-10 minutes (a little after 10pm) for the shuttle to arrive which is a very acceptable wait time for a hotel shuttle. Driver was not overly friendly but professional enough.

We have stayed here before and the lobby is very tropical and nice. The sound of the rushing water is a very calming sound to hear and drowns out a lot of other noises. It would be great if all hotels were layed out like this! It was kind of late and the check-in desk did not greet us immediately, but we were helped in a very speedy manner. When i say speedy it wasn't the friendliest, but we were in our room before 10:30.

The room was just like the pictures on the Embassy Suites website. Kind of dark colors, but very nice and granite counters. The bedroom does have some brighter colors, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and nice. Not sure if I missed the sign, but it took me a little while to find the ice machine (even floors). Odd floors have laudry facilities. Did not use pool/hot tub facilities this visit.

When we woke-up breakfast had started and the US Today was at the front door. Breakfast is very good at most Embassy Suites and this Embassy Suites does not disappoint! Check-out had a small line so I used a kiosk downstairs. Two taxis were parked out front and we were on our way the the cruise terminal!

To summarize, this is a great Embassy Suites. It did not blow my socks off and my few interactions with staff were not as friendly as last time, but it is a very consistent place to rest your head! If you are wanting a place near the South Beach action this is not it, but if you need a one night stay before or after a flight this Embassy Suites delivers what you need.
