I had a 2 day business trip for multi-person conferences for a client whose business was located near Miami International Airport. The Embassy Suites offers free , timely shuttle service to and from the airport, large suites where we had a conference table set up in the front room so we didn't need to rent and set up a separate meeting room. The hotel has an excellent breakfast hot buffet and manager's happy hour every evening with free drinks and snacks, and the on-premises restaurant, 305 Grill, was reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant and the food was quite good. The suites were huge, the room was immaculate, the bed was very comfortable with an ample assortment of pillows of different firmness and everything worked well ( I even touched up my dress shirts with the iron!). The free wireless internet was a bit slow in heavy use periods, especially around 5 -7 PM. The thing that really stood out for me was the staff : to a person, from the front desk to the bell hops to the omelet cook to the shuttle drivers to the guy hauling away trash from meeting rooms, they were EXTREMELY friendly and competent.
The downside: the hotel is located in an industrial zone adjacent to the airport. You really cant walk anywhere, there isn't really anything nearby to walk to, the near views are either industrial or airport and the sound of jets overhead is constant if you are outside at the pool deck . But if you're a business traveler, the convenience can't be beat. The 2 days I was there it rained 8 inches, so I wasn't going anywhere but didn't feel at all claustrophobic because the hotel is built around an airy, well-lit 10 story central atrium with tall trees, waterfalls and a few singing birds, to boot. Instead, I looked at the pouring rain and the traffic snarls on the freeways from my room window and felt smug about not having to be out there. I had a VERY productive, hassle-free business trip and saved my client HUNDREDS of dollars in taxi fares, meeting room rental and my billable time.
