“Miami Heat game Dec 2013”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

I stayed at this hotel with some friends for a miami heat basket ball game in December 2013.

We paid around $200 for a 2 double bed room / suite which i thought was great value as there was 4 of us staying there.

The hotel is in down town and is very close to the Heat stadium, i think we walked it in around 15 minutes.

There are a couple of nightclubs / bars close by so all in all its a great location for going to any Heat games.

Room Tip: pick a room as high up as you can as the views over the bay are amazing

The hotel in general was very nice. I do however have a problem with hotels that charge exorbitant rates and wont even so much as offer you a free cup of coffee in the lobby area or free Wi Fi and charge ($30) for you to park your car. It seems that every hotel in Miami charges you to park. I had to purchase a cup of coffee which was so awfull, I couldn't drink it. The restaurant attached to the hotel was also extremely expensive. I can't say that I would ever stay here again or that I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It didn't show me anything extra special that a hotel should for the rates it charges.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the bay offer a beautiful view of the bay. Other than that you either face the hotel an...

Dear 813 travelgirl,

We appreciate your feedback of our hotel. Our pricing is in line with similar properties in this area and we feel that we offer good value give our waterfront location and extensive facilities. However, in your case it appears we failed to meet expectations, and for that, we are truly sorry. We have indeed noted your review of your coffee and have passed it along to the appropriate management team as that is not acceptable for us and we will be looking into it to ensure that simple things like a great cup of coffee are delivered to guests each and every day.

I had called ahead to confirm my very late arrival (2 am eastern) but found they had to give me a suite upon arrival with a hide-a-bed when my reservation was for 2 queens. We requested bedding for the hide-a-bed and got better service when we challenged thier claim that it would take 45 minutes.

The property is clean, but a bit dated. The bay view was great. The price was so-so.

Room Tip: You need to pay up for a bay view, but not too much more.

Dear Jim B,

We apologize for the change in room type upon your arrival. We are not always able to guarantee a specific room type due to high occupancies on any given day and always try to compensate for the last-minute change with a room upgrade — as in your case to a suite. We do appreciate your flexibility.

This review is not to point out the great location and view but a special thx to the hotel's staff for their professionalism and integrity, my wife forgot a box with some Jewlery in the safe and probably left the safe open....she only remembered a week after checkout and when we went to the hotel we found that it was reported to security and everything intact A+++

Dear GoHeatGo,

We appreciate the fact that you took the time to thank us for ensuring that your wife's jewelry was returned to you after she had forgotten it at the hotel. Our staff works hard to maintain strict policies and procedures and in this instance, clearly our systems and procedures worked flawlessly. Thanks so much for noting it and we hope to see you back again one day soon.

Despite the upgrade and personal attention from the manager, the sheer size of the room presented first problem, where to keep the luggage. Second problem, we got two "double" (not queen) sized beds instead of king, 3rd the mattress was soft and not akin to other Marriott hotels we have gotten used to over the years, and to top it all the room we got was right next to the elevator (the requested quiet room) and the elevator beeped every few seconds into the night and first night of 3 we were there for was long and spent contemplating switching hotels the next morning. I guess what saved the hotel and our stay from getting trimmed was the view and the sunrises with all the cruise ships and bridges at the bay, from the 26th floor and shockingly my over-sensitive ear got used to the elevator and learnt to not pay attention.
The VALET (which we paid extra for) was unbelievably disorganized with long waits and chaos. The lot is right next to hotel, self park on this property.
The breakfast was awesome but soooo crowded in the executive room. Its location is close to the miami beach and sunny isles beach. So, all in all, it went ok.

Room Tip: higher floors, AWAY from the elevator with a view of the bay

I stayed at this Marriott on a regular basis from March through September of 2013 (work related). My rate was typically between $90 - $120 per night. At that rate, it's a great deal and I'd go back again.

Things I like (besides the rate):
-If you like to run, there's a long strip right outside the hotel that has sidewalks for running that is almost entirely along the water. I'd usually go 3 miles out and another 3 miles back, and loved the views along the way.
-American Airlines Arena (home of the Miami Heat) and Bayside (an outdoor shopping area) are within walking distance. However, there are a lot of homeless people in that area and they can be a bit aggressive. None ever bothered me on my runs, but when walking over to Bayside for dinner, having one follow us and ask for money was a regular occurrence.
-Midtown, which has a lot of really good restaurants and shopping, is less than 10 minutes away by car.
-The gym at this hotel is pretty large and has nice views of the water.
-A lot of beaches are a short drive away.
-The traffic was much saner than nearby Brickell, which could be a mess in the late afternoon.
-There's a nice breakfast / bakery place in the attached shopping mall (can't recall the name but it's hard to miss. They make fresh pastries, muffins, omelets, etc.)

Negatives of this property:
-The restaurant / bar is ok. To me, the menu was a bit bland and limited, also pricey. I avoided having dinner here, but would go for a late drink as the bartenders are really, really good - exceptional service.
-The pool doesn't feel too clean. The upside is that it's never crowded. But on the weekends I stayed, I drove to local beaches.
-The rooms are average. A bit older, but clean and well maintained, just lack a "modern" feel (e.g. the showers are all in regular bathtubs...no glass showers).
-Parking can be a hassle when it gets busy. Had times where there was no parking available in the garage, or cars lined up along the wall making it difficult to get in/out. When it's really busy, I'd recommend just using valet.

Overall, if you can get a room for $150 or lower, it's worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the water and a balcony. It was always nice to sit outside in the evening and wat...

The title says it all. While the location is great, the hotel seems to have has a recent and hasty refurbishment. And the rooms are pretty basic. But the beds are quite comfortable and the price is right.

Room Tip: The rooms on the end have great bay views.
