“Luxurious but a Little Inconsistent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. My room and bathroom were spacious with a large picture window with a magnificent view of the harbor. There is a park directly across the street with a relaxing path that follows the water and is excellent for a morning walk or jog. While the positives clearly outweigh the negatives, three annoying little things about the hotel kept me from giving it 5 stars. The first is the pool, which is situated in an odd spot on the 5th floor. Iit gets great sun in the morning, but by 2 PM the entire pool and patio are in the shade. Second, the clothing closet is located in the bathroom, and the bathroom doesn’t have a fan. Thirdly, the housekeeping service was inconsistent. They did little things that were not appropriate for a hotel as expensive as this is. When a hotel charges $300 a night you shouldn’t have to ask for soap. They didn’t change the plastic liner in the ice bucket. They didn’t leave any hair conditioner. Again, I still recommend staying here, but when housekeeping is suspect, it makes you wonder what other cleanliness corners they are cutting.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the harbor

Highly recommend the new Restaurant (Toro Toro) in the lobby of the Hotel. Lovely and sophisticated decor, warm ambiance, delicious food and great service. I've been there a few times for lunch and am planning to try the brunch and dinner. Since it's by the bay and in walking distance to Bayside, it's also a nice romantic place for couples to enjoy.

No doubt this is a first class facility,
Spacious clean rooms, nice furniture, very nice bathroom etc.
The location couldn’t be better and the proximity to practically every one of Miami's attractions is just great.
The only thing that bothered me was the feeling I usually get when I travel to 3rd world country. You know the saying that it costs $1 to climb on top of a camel and $99 to go off it.
In Intercontinental Miami you have to pay for everything on top of the key room: Breakfast($$), $18 daily wifi fee (which they will turn off when you checkout…), parking ($36 per day + the tip as it is valet parking), even storing your luggage before leaving is $1 per piece.
So when you go to Intercontinental Miami, count on doubling your room cost and hey, enjoy, it’s almost a perfect place.

Dear ContingencyPlan,

Thank you for reviewing the InterContinental Miami. We are glad that you enjoyed your accommodations, but we are disappointed that the entire experience was not five-star. We appreciate your comments and please know that we have shared them with our entire staff. At the moment we do charge a fee for Wi-Fi, but it is available at two price points and connection speeds. Overnight parking if $36, but it is comparable to other downtown price points. Ole, our exclusive breakfast restaurant is one of the best in downtown Miami and offers all the comforts and fixings that you may desire. We hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with an excellent experience and please let us know if we may be of any assistance in planning a future stay.

Arriving at the hotel for our second visit after a long transatlantic flight it was wonderful to be greeted by William,at the door,as "the family returning!
The new lighting outside is fantastic.A very speedy check in by the efficient staff and the up to our suites on the 32nd floor.Fantastic views even at 7-30 in the evening.Very comfortable beds and no problem sleeping.Breakfast in the Club Lounge and again what a pleasure to be greeted by Elvin who welcomed us back.Introduced to Florangel who ensued that we never had a problem during our two week stay.I had asked prior to arrival if my breakfast cereal could be available, mini wheats, and it was delivered to me as I sat down. That's what you call service!
After a day out we returned to the lounge for a cocktail before heading out for dinner to be greeted by Killy and Aristedes who again remembered us from the previous visit.Over the two weeks we met with Hector,Lily,Katherine and Nathalie all of whom made our stay really enjoyable.
This may be a "Business" hotel but they know how to look after the individual guests.
We look forward to returning on our next visit to Miami.

We had a pre-paid King Deluxe Bay-view room with breakfast. Upon arrival we were informed that they did not have a room available for us, the only option was a room with two twin beds. Eventually we were put in a room facing downtown.

The room itself had not been thoroughly cleaned in quite some time. Dust bunnies, toothpaste on the bathroom mirror and faucet, dirty coffee mugs, handprints on the windows, several stained towels in the bathroom, stains on the ceiling over the bed that one could only wonder and very dusty room overall. We have serious dust allergies, which made our stay a virtual nightmare.

With the gleaming art-deco lodging delights of Miami Beach but a 15-minute cab ride away, the hotels of neighboring downtown Miami had better have something to lure a piece of the tourism action.

Indeed, the InterContinental Miami, in the heart of the city's downtown, has done more to stack the deck than just be convenient to the burgeoning cruise industry within picture-postcard view of the hotel's bay-side windows.

After a recent renovation, the hotel has risen from its 1980s feel into a gleaming lodging reminiscent of the new celebrity-ridden destinations of Las Vegas. The bay-front facade in fact lights up nightly with an animated iconic female dancer (not the pole variety) as well as dancing symbols and letters. The porte cochere and lobby are likewise lit up with a mesmerizing fluidity of lights and colors, while a series of multi-screen monitors in the elevator lobby display a video loop of a rushing ocean front. It works well with the lobby's original modern design and existing contemporary centerpiece sculpture.

As for the rooms, they are massive and comfortably contemporary, with dark-wood furniture, large flat screens (with actual high-def TV channels to go with them) and an opulent marble bath. A series of junior suites -- not to be confused with the hotel's signature suites touted on YouTube -- are more comfortable than stylish. But having an extra half-bath is a nice luxury.

As for four-star accoutrements, the only real draw back were the disappointing bare-bones cream-suger packs to go with the Keurig coffeemakers -- more like something from Motel 8 than an otherwise solid four-star hotel.

The restaurants are all destinations in themselves, and downtown Miami has actually developed into a user-friendly environment, with people movies connecting to another train running to the airport; a park area right out front with a fun market area not much further and even a handful of walkable restaurants.

It's not quite Miami Beach, but, again, still a $15-$20 cab ride away, and certainly enough of a treat for a pre- or post-cruise day in Florida's party-central city.

Room Tip: Ask for bay-side room; try lobby Starbucks for a.m.
