“Elegant hotel with Great service, but more Cruise than Business-friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2009

The Hyatt Regency located in downtown Miami offers elegant rooms and common spaces with great customer service. The food is very good, whether breakfasts or room service. Less convincing are the business facilities (poor wi-fi in the upper floors of the hotel, and no wi-fi at all in the conference rooms!) and the gym (very small and built in a staff passageway!). The crowd becomes very white trash as the week-end approaches, since the hotel is used for overnight accommodation before cruises in the Caribbean. Overall, I would most likely re-use this hotel because I am not sure there is a better choice in this part of town anyway, but if you know otherwise, then you can try elsewhere particularly if looking for a business-friendly hotel.

I stayed an extra night at the end of a business trip to visit family the next day. Got the Hyatt Regency Miami on priceline and it was well worth the value. The bed was very comfortable and I appreciated the flat panel TV.

The bathroom toiletries were very good although the bathroom could have used a makeup mirror.

Take the metromover which you can get to without going outside to the Bayside Marketplace for other eating options (although the Capital Grille is in walking distance).

I had the breakfast buffet at the Riverwalk Cafe which was very tasty with fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, pastries, breakfast meats, eggs benedict, scrambed eggs, waffles, etc. It was pricy but delicious and I had excellent service.

I enjoyed the pool and gym in the morning before checking out.

We stopped here for one night having got a very good rate on priceline. The hotel is in a good downtown location with the Bayfront area easily walkable and the metromover easy to access. Check in was quick, polite and friendly. The room was nice, although the layout of a three quarter wall between the bedroom and the wash area/bathroom was a little odd, couldn't see why they couldn't just make this a separate room (has this always been a Hyatt or is this a left over from a previous existence?) The bathroomcould do with some work - the five setting showerhead actually only had one setting and the fitting generaly needed replacing and it needed a good clean in terms of the tiles etc. The bed was comfy, and the room layout fine. The flat screen TV was good, although the signal at imes erratic. Web access was $9.95 aand wasn't a great bandwidth so ran quite slow. I never understand how budget hotels can offer internet for free and the high ends charge.

The cafe downstairs serves a selection of Starbucks coffees and teas, pastries, yoghurt etc and the staff were very friendly.

Valent parking is an obscene $40 a night - self parking is around the corner for $12.25 per night and there is a connecting walkway into the hotel.

At rack rate this wouldn't be great but at a priceline or discount rate this is a nice hotel.

We travel a lot and are Hyatt members but this Hyatt hotel was a total disappointment. The smell of old carpets hits you as you enter the lobby. The suite was quite large but badly planned and the bathroom was probably nice 30-40 years ago. The furniture were better that's why the photos looked OK, but the smell of dirty carpets was everywhere. The pool area wasn't any better, our children didn't even want to be there. If we hadn't paid in advance nothing would have made us stay a single night. (A Hyatt hotel I can recommend is Hyatt in Singapore, but this was terrible).

Good service from hotel's and restaurant's staff, it's very close to the Brickell St. and has access to the Metromover a very good option for moving in Miami Downtown (is free by the way); We'd rented a car and the second day we returned it because we were very close to Brickell, we preffered to walk 1/2 blocks, and we went out for dinner using the Metromover (the Mary Brickell Village has very good options, you step down from Metromover in the 10th St. Station for going there), a very cheap bus service departs/goes to the Dolphin Mall from the hotel, is a good option for shopping.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Denver earlier this year which was outstanding. So when I got this hotel for $100 a night on Priceline I thought I lucked out. Well, here's the positives and negatives.

Positives: Good central downtown Miami location for business. Very accomodating staff. Decent bedding. Connected to convention center.

Negatives: Not an "ultra modern" hotel as noted on web site or TripAdvisor. More like putting a bandaid on 80's decor. Had to have room service come back up to my room to vacuum carpet when I checked in as it looked like no one did that originally while cleaning the room. A couple of hairs in the bathtub and a few crumbs on the desk chair. I'm not squeamish but more effort should have been given here. Really, especially for a Hyatt Regency. Restaurant food was ok, but again, the only restaurant looked like your typical "breakfast" dining room in other mid-level hotels.

The staff was trying very hard and was very sweet, but I wouldn't stay here again. Glad it was only one night and $100.

For a fabulous, albeit more pricey, alternative, try the Epic boutique hotel next door. Just opened in late 2008. Wow. Gorgeous. Even if you can't afford to stay there, go to the 16th floor restaurant/lounge area for dinner and/or drinks and watch the sun go down through the high rises and over the intercoastal.

I just returned from staying four nights @ this hotel. I cannot say I loved staying here, the room has a musty smell to it, it really reminded me of old college dorm rooms. The beds, desk, tv and curtains are about the only things that have been "remodeled" in this room since the bathroom and division clearly dates back a couple of decades. The staff was great and to their merit do make an obvious effort to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The parking is quite a distance away (the self park) unless you want to pay $29.00 which if you ask me is outrageous to pay since it's almost 1/3 of what you're paying for the room if you get it at a good price. I booked mine through Priceline for $75.00 a night and hence had no choice of where I would stay, but I don't think I would stay here again. Though it was cheap, last time I got the Hilton Downtown and enjoyed it more. The lobby was ok enough. The food from Room Service was not good either, the taste was bland. Try Phillipe Chow's in South Beach @ the new Gansevoort Hotel if you are traveling to Miami and want somewhat of nicer "Miami" experience.
