“Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012 via mobile

Very relaxing getaway. My husband and I were looking for a quiet weekend away and this was the perfect spot. After spending the day in downtown Miami, we made the short 3 mile drive to this hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the room was fabulous. Dinner at Gibraltar was easily among the most romantic we have had. Private waterfront tables have breathtaking views matched with exquisite cuisine and friendly service. If you are looking to party on the South Beach scene this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a quiet getaway that is within close proximity to the action of Miami then this is the perfect place.

We stayed at the Grove Isle once before (about 5 years ago). It is definitely appealing to ME but others might find some things not so great. As a plus, it is a small property (hard to find in the surrounding area). We stayed in a larger room on our first visit, but even though this was not a 'suite', it was very roomy...great (and very private ) balcony with furniture that was actually comfortable...the water was extremely close and we enjoyed a great view of the bridge and the bay. The bedding was very comfortable and the room did look 'updated' but be aware that this is an older property and showing its age....of the two elevators, one was out of service and the other kind of 'creaky'. Second night our ac went out in the middle of the night...not wanting a service man at that time of the evening, we were able to bear it...when I told the front desk at check out she was very nice and said that if we had called they could have probably re-set it without doing a service call (but no offer of any type of concession for the inconvenience). We ate breakfast at the restaurant and even though the service was kind of slow, the food was good. We did not use the spa services so I cannot comment on that. It has a tropical appeal to me and I would go back, but would hope for some updating and/or lowered room cost. There is a ten percent 'resort' fee that I feel completely unnecessary as this is not a 'resort'.

This is my most memorable, wonderful, peaceful, relaxing and spiritual weekend vacation. The staff at the hotel and spa are very accommodating and helpful. It was a joy and a pleasure meeting them and staying at the hotel. I will return again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the ocean are wonderful. Higher floors are ideal for those who are looking for pea...

I just came back from a long weekend at this hotel and I can say without any doubt in my mind, this is the worst hotel ever. A hotel that charges $250 a night for room is expected to have a certain degree of class and maintain a certain level of upkeep. This hotel is an old hotel that once may have been the hotel to stay for all the celebs, but it's probably haven't seen any renovation or upkeep since that era in the last century.
It started with the staff that was, for lack of words, condescending. I called the front desk to ask what time does the pool close and was told "sundown". Not being from Miami and knowing the time of the sundown, I asked what does that mean. The girl answered "Well, that means, when the sun goes down, that's when we close" is a very condescending way.
Another incident which happened twice over a weekend was the fact that there were no towels in the pool for two days until 11:30am. This was a wedding weekend for us and there were lots of kids, so, how can they not have towels. So instead of them giving us towels from the room, we had to go and get them ourselves.
Another incident was that we sat down for breakfast in the only restaurant in the hotel and ordered waffles for the kids, after being the ONLY table sitting and being served, and waiting 30 MINUTES for the food, they come out and say, oh by the way, the waffle machine is broken.
If that is not enough, we came back to our room one night after the maids were suppose to clean and we find that they through away our childs food containers and also the wedding gifs bags that were given to all the guests. The bag was full of food and gifts for the kids. Also, we had chopped salad that we had for our child and instead of taking it to the trash, the maid through it in the toilet. Really disgusting. All in all. DO NOT STAY HERE. Go to Fountain Bleu, so much more better.

We thought that 'peaceful' and 'Miami' couldn't be combined in one resort, so we were delighted to find the Grove Isle based on Trip Advisor reviews. We were very happy with our room which was large and had a patio overlooking the sea. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and the food couldn't be faulted. Our main purpose for staying at the resort was simply to chill out for three days. The pool was large enough for us to have a proper swim and for the first two days everything was peaceful. I would have rated the resort Excellent, but on our third day the pool area was taken over by local residents: a dozen small children shouting and crying and jumping in and out of the pool, with their mothers, and buggies parked round the pool. It was impossible to have a swim and impossible to sit and read. A few hours later they were still there, so our final morning of relaxation was spoilt. I have written to the resort to ask what their policy is with regard to local residents using the pool, but they haven't bothered to reply, so I suspect this is a common complaint.

We were looking for a great spa getaway and the Grove Isle Hotel and Spa came up. We booked and stayed. Beware when you book they charge you for the night before you even come. Please double check your reservations. The wrong room was booked. The spa was great, but a unisex area so men were walking around in robes, not very comfortable fora ladies spa getaway. The roomservice was rude and they offered no turkey breakfast meat. Overall nice clean property quiet, but I will never stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms wiht bay front. They have balconys and are very nice.
