“Quaint and wonderful hospitality”

Miami River Inn

Aug 28, 2008

I have stayed at the Miami River Inn twice, and booked my son and daughter-in-law there for their honeymoon. Both times I enjoyed myself immensely and my son and his bride had a wonderful time.
The reason was the hospitality extended by the manager and the desk clerk. They were very accommodating - even serving me wine when I came in for the night. I enjoyed their conversations and their helpfulness. I always found the rooms comfortable and clean. The breakfast could be a little better; especially if they would have a hostess to serve more ethnic and tantalizing casseroles. Other B&B's have a family style breakfast. I would not hesitate to stay again.

This is a bit long & detailed.....but you should be informed before booking here. I booked 4 nights here. At the very least....you would hope that the 2 things a 'bed' & 'breakfast' would make sure to do, is to ensure that the 'bed' & 'breakfast' are top notch. The bed in our room was beyond unacceptable-we could feel the broken springs in the mattress along with a very obvious hump in the middle of the bed - clearly not replaced (maybe ever) very uncomfortable. The pillows on the bed were so TERRIBLE-one was soooo flat you could roll it up into a tight roll - been there for way too long maybe - eewww! There were 3 of us in our room & they only left 2 old towels (no washcloths at all) and the towels were FOUL! They left a horrible smell on our skin when drying off after bathing - disgusting! I called the front desk repeatedly and got nothing but the answering machine & never got a call back or response. (This was all the 1st day!) I thought we should try 1 more day just in case they had an 'off' day or something (my spouse was not of the same mind, but we tried it). Day 2 towels were JUST as gross! We had to dry off with hand towels, and still they only left 2 towels.....Again no response from front desk & no one even at the front desk when we went there! (both times it was in the evening around 9 pm but someone should have been attending!) No call back whatsoever. What if there was an emergency!!!????

Moving on to the breakfast....the little bldg that you go into was run down and not very clean inside, there were sugar ants all over the countertops & dirty dishes in the sink....the refrigerator handle in there was also very dirty, I personally look at those things for indications of cleanliness in a facility. The food was cold cereal (corn flakes/raisin bran?), yogurt, bananas, toast & bagles & coffee cake....I cannot eat dairy so, I couldn't eat anything much other than the coffee cake and sad to say, it had obviously been in the fridge for some length of time as the flavor had picked up the icky fridge air! One bite and I had to throw it away. There was, of course, no non-dairy creamer for the coffee. We had to go out to eat, both days. They should indicate that it's not a 'breakfast' but instead, just a continental.

We could not do another night - we'd had enough. Our short vacation was being marred by the bad service & accomodations of this B&B. Whenever I travel I always check B&B's first - we are big fans and have stayed at many over the years! But this was was an absolute bust. I spoke with the owner of the Inn about all of these things upon checking out & was surprised that she did not even offer to compensate us for anything at all. Not very good business in my opinion.

The antique furniture around was awesome & beautiful, but I thought the room textiles decor (bed & window treatments) was dated and did not even have that 'antique' feeling, just old. The grounds & gardens & even the buildings are so pleasant & pretty. It's ashame that the the accomodations and services are not tended to nearly as much as those other things. I cannot recommend this B&B to anyone. Such a shame.

Hi, I`m Melanie from Germany.
We was looking for a nice and cheap stay in Miami by Internet. I was very happy when I found the Miami River Inn. The presentation on the website promised a lot of things and the pictures showed some very nice rooms. We decided to stay one week.
At last, when we arrived the Inn, nothing became real.
We got a very small room, the restroom and the sleeping room was one (no door between) an the windows could not been open!!! That was nasty!
This place could be nice, but you will figure out, that there is no heart and soul in this place.
So, after one night we left the Inn.
If you are unselective and you can overlook some details may this place be a good alternative to stay near downtown.

We were traveling around South Florida recently with the thought of seeing Miami for one night. Little did we know there was a tennis tourament in town for the weekend plus a big concert. All major lodging was booked, but we had our travel guide book that listed the Miami River Inn. We had a hard time finding it because of some outdated info in the guide book. Once we did we had second thoughts, because of the location. It was are only choice for the night and it turned out to be very nice. The rooms were clean, the staff was great and the grounds around the buildings were nicely kept with a great pool. I'm not sure if they take families but it is very nice for couples or young adults. They serve a breakfast in the morning that is what you would get at a chain hotel. Only down side (for me) was there was no coffee maker in the room and nome served until 8:30 AM.

We stayed here while attending the Winter Music Conference for two days. Everything was booked and this was the last place we could find for a reasonable price.
The room was appointed with antiques as they say on the website, and fairly small, our friends stayed in a somewhat larger room across the building from us. All of us had the same complaint, the beds were very uncomfortable. It was hard to get information about the city from the front desk clerk. The bathroom was fairly clean. The pool and courtyard outside are absolutely delightful, private and plenty of seats in the shade. There are some great little restaurants nearby, mostly local Mom and Pop with Latino cuisine. A main hub of the metro station is a ten minute walk. Our friends couldn't get a cab to bring them back to the hotel late one night...the cab drivers told them they didn't go to that side of town. We ended up walking to the Bayfront several times and it really wasn't that bad, even at night. Still, I would not recommend going it alone. One night there were several bums sleeping outside the gate by our room...
It was an interesting experience, but I wish we had stayed somewhere with better beds. Don't follow the advice of another reviewer who says it might be good if you aren't going to be there much, I was so exhausted from not getting good sleep, I missed out on some of the things I wanted to do while we were in town.
