Having finished our cruise, the family (including an 8 year old and 9 year old) had a day to use in Miami before our flight home to London. South Beach beckoned, but the heavens opened up so we needed an alternative location.
We got a cab to the Miami Children's Museum - what a great place! Lots of king size exhibits in different zones - Dinosaurs, a small supermarket with plastic goods, a small cruise ship exhibit, a bank etc. Lots of buttons to press and activities (cookie decorating whilst we were there). Everything is displayed beautifully, is clean and well-finished. Lots of educational content, but not thrust upon you.
I'd say that it's suitable for kids up to age 9 (including toddlers), with the key age group being 4-7 years old.
The staff are really good, and a group of volunteer kids also help out.
The snacks are mostly healthy.
All in all very good stuff.
a) If you need a cab back somewhere, book it on arrival - on entering we were told to book it on exiting, but we then had to hang around for 30 minutes.
b) Security, surprisingly, could be better. Kids can leave the building without going through a barrier. Of course, you're going to keep an eye on them anyway, but still...
c) It's expensive - but you get what you pay for - just about.
