“Newly remodelled gem close to Miami airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

The Airport Marriott is newly remodeled property – I have stayed here quite a few times and am actually quite surprised by the negative comments as I find the hotel excellent value and superb in terms of convenient location to the scareport. I have generally found the front desk fairly slow and laid back, but not this time - they were slick and I was checked in, in minutes.
Thank goodness the remodeling is over, but it has paid off – it is an old building but they have done a great job of remodeling. The lobby and bar are very modern – the sportsbar Champions is right off the lobby and their restaurant is called Cane Fire Grill – serves OK middle of the road priced food. The rooms have been very well remodeled with large practical bathrooms and are clean, cool and comfortable. What fascinates me though is the inconsistency in the Marriott brand – when I stay at full service Marriott, I expect a gown, and bathroom amenities to include cotton buds – but not here. I also asked for a room on a high floor and didn’t get it, with the number of nights I spend annually at Marriott – in excess of 150 – I expect to get what I want! My stay however was great and I can thoroughly recommend this property as the best option close to Miami Scareport. They run a shuttle service every 15 minutes to and from the airport.

I stayed here twice, before and after a trip to Cuba. Marriott's are (intentionally?) bland but this one is the worst I have experienced. Expect a lot of beige and plain bad taste. But, and stand warned, expect incredibly expensive meals and bar tabs. And the least friendly Starbucks I have yet encountered.

So save money, save the assault on your taste and your wallet and find another hotel when forced to spend the night at Miami International.

Room Tip: Actually the rooms in the unrestored wing have much more character (and bigger windows) than the new...

I've been staying at this property for a few years now. I'm a Marriott Platinum and my stays are for business. This property has been around for many years, but is "an Olde, but Goode" and has been nicely renovated. It is a Very Good Place to Stay; obviously convenient to the airport , convenient to all highways, easy to get to the beaches if you want to break away and other places for some fun. Little Havana is easy to get to from the hotel. Go south and a left turn on 8th St (US HWY 41). You'll know when you get there.

I usually hub out of this property when visiting clients to the south and to the north. Non-business stay should be cost effective and enjoyable too. They do have a very nice pool and various outside lounge areas that can distract and take you away from where you are actually staying, i.e. close to the airport. I think would works well for R&R for short term or maybe a week when looking for a full service hotel and not willing to pay resort prices.

Staying at this property is always very interesting because of all the international guests that come and go It's almost as if your were staying in another country, i.e. South America for example. And that only adds to the enjoyment of staying at this property. The hotel lobby and the rooms have been very nicely renovated. I've never experienced any issues.

The concierge Lounge and staff is always very nice and friendly. It's one of the few properties that doesn't lock the doors at 10PM sharp and so if coming in later you can usually grab a desert and coffee if running late. (not the norm and no guarantee, but they do attempt to leave the door open while staying to clean the lounge before leaving for the night.} The staff is customer focused.

Close to the airport, but noise from the airport doesn't filter into the rooms too badly at all and I've never had a night where airport noised was an issue. Always a nice night's sleep. No guarantee that you can't get rude guests that come in and out every so often, especially more on a weekend stay than mid week, but that can happen at any property. Should that happen the staff is responsive to try to resolve any rude guests.

The hotel restaurant is very good and the staff is very attentive. I've gotten to know Ira, who mans the bar and has been there for over 25 years. He's always friendly and makes my stay that much more enjoyable. I believe much of the staff are long timers. The staff is wonderful at this property and all seem very happy, which attests to the many who have been on staff for many years.

The rooms are very nice, renovated and always maintained. Typical Marriott business hotel rooms. Nothing more to add here. I always stay on the Concierge level, as they always upgrade Plats, etc.

Look for deals on the Marriott website that offer free self parking and it will save you a few bucks each day. Usually under a AAA rate or search the deals and promotions.

The property is actually a compound or sorts and shares property with Courtyard and Residence Inn. There is a Fairfield Inn adjacent too, but is outside of the property grounds. This Marriott might look old from the outside and shows an older buildout Marriott Airport look, but don't get fooled... This is a very nice property and recommend it. Only giving a Very Good and not excellent rating because trying to be totally objective in that this is an older property and at the airport, but this is an excellent property all around in my opinion.

Note: Le Jeune Road is usually very busy, so just be careful, especially when turning left out of the property and going south. Lot's ot toll roads in FL, so if you come here frequently and dirve, get a Sun Pass.

I'm a Marriott points person because I like the chain. The points program is great and the hotels almost always meet a minimum standard. At this hotel the lobby was beautiful, but the room was not great. It was well cleaned, but just very old. I read an earlier comment that they're upgrading the rooms. if they do as good a job on the rooms as they did the lobby, this will be a great hotel. Until then, dont be surprised if it disappoints.

We last stayed here in 2009 and we experienced another great stay here. We checked in at the Elite Member desk and Janella was polite and professional. She provided us with 1,000 bonus points (we had a choice of gifts and we chose the points). We picked the Miami Airport Marriott because they have a special package that includes breakfast and transportation to the cruise port for two so it was a no brainer.

This hotel has a Starbuck’s in the lobby and a fantastic hotel bar. Marriott also lets us reserve a feather-free room and so we had a Pure room, which included an air purification system in the room. Believe me – I did notice the difference.

The morning of our cruise we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which is better than most hotel buffets. They had made to order omelets, waffles, and even Eggs Florentine. If you didn’t want the buffet, you could order off their regular menu. After breakfast, we finished packing up our bags and went to the lobby to wait for our shuttle to the port. We had to pay $11 for our son as our hotel rate only included the transportation for two. As there were four ships in port, the shuttle was going to stop for the Carnival Liberty, Carnival Destiny, Celebrity Millennium, and the Norwegian Epic so be prepared for a long and crowded ride to the port.

If I were taking a cruise out of Miami, I wouldn't hesitate to book the Miami Airport Marriott and in fact, I often recommend it to my clients. travelshopgirl.blogspot.com
