I'm not Cuban so I've never had an abuela cooking traditional food for me, but I have visited Cuba and I know that this is a large island with many varieties in its cuisine. So taking the menu at face value I ordered the famous Cuban sandwich - pork, ham, cheese and pickle on delicious bread. At less than $10 for my lunch, I'm not complaining - the sandwich tasted good and hit the spot. It was disconcerting to be spoken to only in Spanish but I survived. And hey I didn't get food poisoning which is all too common in modern day Cuba!
