“One of the Best 'Hidden' Gems of Coral Gables”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Please note they're closed Mondays! I've been going here for over 10 years now, and it's still one of my favourite restaurants in town. Since its spike in popularity a few years back, it does get quite crowded, so do plan ahead and either go early for lunch or dinner, or just reserve a table. I personally prefer coming here for lunch, you can get a bento box for around $10 (Tuesdays to Fridays) which includes sushi, soup, salad and a main dish. If you're hungry I recommend ordering something extra (the sushi is some of the best in town, especially for the price!), or just save room for dessert (they are famous for their tempura icecream as well as tempura cheesecake). The servers and service is geared towards eat-and-leave, so don't be too harried if they seem to rush you, they just usually try and turn out as many tables as possible due to their high volume of patrons during peak hours. If you take your time though, they'll notice your not in a rush and slow down the speedy service for a more dine-in atmosphere.

The great thing about the restaurant is that it's a healthy mix of locals, UM students, businessmen and many more types of people, showing it really has held it's ground as a good Miami staple.

“Great food in a business lunch / high traffic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

Being fond of Japanese cuisine, our family explores opprotunities or rakes risks to try top-rated locations wherever we go. This time we had a day between ship disembarcation and plane boarding so we gave Matsuri a chance. Kinda hard to explain to a driver where it is, as the address is a tricky one. Bird Road is actually a 40sw.

The food was tremendously outstanding both for the location (not a downtown poshy place) and for the price paid. Selection is a bit wider than in other places, but some dishes are missing (i.e. raw salmon sushi).

Other reviews give lower marks based on service, but to me this is unfair, since the location is busness-lunchey.

They do get a cab for you which is important as there is no public transportation available in the vicinity.

I would certainly go there again if I ever would be in Miami.

“As Japanese as it gets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

If you're looking for relatively classic Japanese food in Miami, it doesn't get better than Matsuri. Great Sushi and great everything. My Japanese wife and I (French) love food and have lived in Tokyo for several years... Trust us !
