“Excellent hotel pre cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014 via mobile

This is a brand new hotel and typical of the Cambria Suites. Decor is modern, hotel is clean, staff attentive. The location is a plus or a negative depending on what you want. It is situated on a lake with
a beautiful pool and terrace. It is very quiet and lovely. The downside is there is nothing around it for restaurants or shopping. The van will take you but when the hotel is crowded, not sure how reliable that will be.

Restaurant is limited but the food in the even is well prepared and not terribly expensive. The breakfast buffet is another matter. It is not included and for $13.00 is way overpriced. I would rate it on par with lower chain hotels that offer complimentary breakfast.

The hotel does not yet have a safe available at the hotel desk.

If you are here for anything more than a one night pre cruise...you really need a car.

Problem with Cambria Suites Miami Blue Lagoon

Reservation made via delta airlines website clearly stating breakfast is included in stay. Despite providing manager with proof of free breakfast statments, the charges were not removed from bill. This is an extremely poor display of customer service, leaving our party with an extreme distates of the brand. Hotel lobby provides zero signage denoting charge for breakfast. Two other couples were also having the same issue with the front desk not seeing a resolution. Even complimentary coffee has no signage other than a price list.

We stayed at Cambria the night before our cruise. You couldn't tell it was brand new. Check in was slow, and the receptionist at the front desk was (I hope) training, because she had to ask her manager a ton of questions while checking me in. The hallways are not routinely vacuumed, not disgusting, but a lot of random lint (which was there when we got in at 8pm, still there at 11pm, and hadn't been vacuumed up by 7am). Room service trays are not quickly whisked away from outside the room, and we had to play frogger while attempting to get to our room). Our room was as expected, clean with a sofa and king bed. Room 311. We ordered room service, it was pretty bad. The cheeseburger was nearly raw, the club sandwich toast was burnt and drowning in mayo, and the pb&j was noticeably missing a lot of pb and j. We did not receive napkins or silverware. We ended up using washcloths. The air conditioning in the room didn't work right, and it remained warm in our room. The curtains on the window do not close (very very strange) and the very bright lights from the parking lot shine right into the room, and into your eyes when in the right spot. The perfect spot for the light to shine into your eyes was.... You guessed it, when you were in the bed with your head on the pillow. Random things in the room where already broken, like the vases in the partition were at some point, glued to the partition so they couldn't move and fall down on someone, they are now just perched on the ledge in the glue spot and just teetering there. Yes the room was clean, and ok for the money, but they are still either working the kinks out, need to train their employees better, or don't care...

We were in need of a hotel room after being stranded due to a snow storm and our flight wouldn't take off until 2 days later. We had one night at a Friend and Family rate of $69.00. We didn't even get into the room until around 4:30 or 4:45PM. We were told that we would not be able to stay in that room and would need to switch the next morning. We woke up and went down to see about another room and was told we could get another night, but at a rate of $258.00! We explained that we had no place to stay, but because they knew hotel rooms were scarce due to a boat show and art festival, they could charge any amount they wanted to! We pleaded with them and explained that our only choice was to stay at the airport which we didn't want to do since we had a long drive once we landed in Charlotte, NC back to TN! Even calling Choice Hotels didn't help as they also said it was up to the manager of Cambria Suites Miami Airport Blue Lagoon. After explaining our situation, they still said sorry. I then asked to speak with the manager, and of course, he wasn't there, and spoke to the Assistant Manager. He said to give him a chance to see what he could do and so we waited for almost 45 minutes. He called and said do I want to hear the good news or bad news first! The good was that he would give us dinner!!!! But the room rate was still $258.00! We were stuck and he knew it and so we paid the price. We didn't even get in that room until after 5:00 PM and got up at 3:30 to leave by 4:30 the next morning to finally catch our plane!

What a sad state of affairs it is when someone can grab someone by the neck when the chips are down in an emergency snow storm! I even left a message a few days later and still no phone call! How sad is it when Choice Hotels Corporation couldn't and wouldn't help either. If they have someone carry their name, they should care enough to be able to help in some way!!!!! We have stayed in many choice hotels, but the way we were treated in a time of need, was despicable! Sandra A

We stayed just one night pre-cruise and enjoyed the spacious, clean modern room. Plenty of space with sofa area and second large TV. Coffee machine was good. Bed very comfortable.

Our restaurant experience was poor, with desperately slow food and drink service. The bar tender didn't appear to know how to make the Mojito on the cocktail menu and the 2 efforts were spectacularly bad, although fairly and appropriately removed from the bill. After a very long day travelling from the UK we really needed the efficient, friendly service that we have invariably received in the USA - it wasn't to be. The wait staff were engaging and friendly enough but seemed desperately in need of some very basic training. A good start would be on the basic order of service - welcome; seat; drinks menu; food menu; drinks order; drinks delivery; food order... etc. I do not exaggerate when I say that there was a problem/delay at every single stage.

The food was, eventually, very good. Chicken lollipops were tasty and the burger was delicious - inexplicably the waitress initially thought we wanted our main courses (entrees) before the starters (appetisers) but sorted it out. The staff are clearly trying and a small amount of training/experience should resolve the issues. This hotel would then become an excellent choice.

We stayed here for 2 nights before our cruise. We stayed in a 2 room suite with King beds. The room was fantastic, beds very comfortable. There were 4 adults and the room was exactly as described and just what we needed with a lot of room. The shower was great, large, great water pressure and perfect temperature. We did not have a lagoon view room but we did sit outside and eat by the lagoon. The food was a little on the pricey side but very good, however the service for the restaurant was not good at all. We were told they were short staffed so maybe that's why but the waitress didn't even check on us when she walked by so we're not sure. Since the food was really good it kind of made up for it, although the other couple we were with did not want to eat there again because of the service. There is a stripmall just down the street, about a 20 minute walk, with some restaurants, a grocery store, liquor store, etc. which was handy. Overall a good experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a lagoon view, although we didn't have one our room was still fantastic.
