We have visited Miami for many years, and always headed to the Design District as it has been the home base for many design firms and studios.(there are two architects in the family) There were wonderful old Florida style buildings, small outdoor restaurants, and good ones such as Fratelli/Lyon, as well as antique shops and a casual relaxed feel to the place. Now much of the old buildings have been knocked down, and are now huge soon-to-be-construction sites, the old restaurants are gone, and some of the furniture and design studios have beeen replaced with ultra expensive dress and shoe shops. For us the area has been ruined, as it may be for those who enjoy originality and the feeling of being somewhere "real", not an
other shopping center to be with glitz. And I am sure some people will
find it to their taste. But we are very sad to see such changes.
