Parrot Jungle is much more than birds. In fact, the nicest attractions are the reptiles show and wild animals show. There is a nice and clean petting zoo and new playground equipment for children.

Despite a previous post, there are numerous exhibits that are very educational and informative. There is a general feeling that the owners and staff do sincerely care about both the animals and the environment in general. While some birds are in cages, many are not. It should be noted that the greater Miami area is home to many parrots who live and breed outside of captivity. As a local resident, we awake every morning to the sounds of parrots flying overhead.

We have had an annual pass for the past two years. We probably go about once every two months. Our kids (ages 3 and 5) love it. I have seen a tremendous improvement in the park since it opened in the quality of the show and exhibits. The landscaping has filled in very nicely and the surrounding waterviews are great.

We visited the Parrot Jungle Island in August of 2003. We absolutely loved it!
We took our time and visited all the exhibits, took pictures of the parrots and all the other wild life - giant turtles, pink flamingoes, reptiles, etc. We also took pictures with several parrots on our shoulders and holding an alligator (a small one). We loved the shows, especially the bird one and the reptile one. Everything was wonderful! We have many pictures that look like something from the National Geographic!
Unfortunately, we missed the tiger show.
It is definitely worth a visit! I keep telling my boyfriend I want to go back to Parrot Jungle Island (we are in our late 20s!). I think that children will enjoy it even more than we adults did. There are just so many animals there, it's amazing! Very well marked and organized. Good gift shop.

On Valentine's Day 2-14-05 my husband and I visited Parrot Jungle Island. I first thought that the admission price was a bit high as we waited in line at the ticket counter. But upon entering this gorgeous manmade habitat, that first thought was wrong. Walking among beautiful plants, humongous waterfalls, happy well cared for animals and an absolutely pristine, relaxing environment made me fee in the Zen mode. This is definitely an escape from the real world. Every employee was welcoming and friendly, from the ticket taker to the hotdog vendor. We saw three amazing educational funny shows that just make you want to stand up, clap and say WOW. The whole place is spotlessly clean. I watched up close as baby orangutans were diapered and bottle fed, petted a baby alligator, and saw the largest reptile in the world. And there is so much more. The PJI experience was overwhelming, enlightening, uplifting and worth every penny.

We spent christmas morning at the Parrot Jungle in an attempt to do something completely different this year. In comparison to Uk theme parks we did not find the entrance prices at all expensive. It was lovely to see the parrots flying in an enormous avery as it is not often you get to see the lovely colours of their wings when they are in a small cage. There were also parrots who were free, on a perch and you could hand feed them. Food was available from dispensers but only cost 25c. We thoroughly enjoyed the Winged Wonders show where the parrots and a host of other birds flew freely to the handlers. The handlers were extremely knowledgable and told us some interesting facts. The vulture would not behave and would not participate in the show or come back to the handler. But they coped with this very well. He did say also that "all the animals were acting strangely today" and later on that evening was when the tsunami would have happened so maybe the birds could sense it coming? The show with the wildlife animals was fantastic. It was the first time I have ever seen a Liger (cross between lion and tiger). There were photos available after the show with either the baby chimp, baby orangutang or baby tiger. And yes they did cost $40 but my husband ,daughter and myself were all in the photo so I though it was pretty good. At least they didn't charge you separatetly. Besides, being cuddled by a gorgeous baby chimp on xmas day was worth more than $40 to me. The animals were extremely well cared for, and obviously loved and many of them had appeared on Animal Planet. One of the chaps in the show spent a long time afterwards talking to my husband about the animals. He was very knowledgable and it became obvious that these animals were the center of their universe! The area was very clean and tidy and not at all crowded when we went. We did not eat there so cannot comment on the food stands. The staff were very helpful and friendly and even arranged a taxi back to the hotel for us. I would recommend it for a lovely morning outing.

I will make this PLAIN and SIMPLE: DO NOT GO TO PARROT JUNGLE ISLAND.
The "staff" obviously has NO CONCERN about the birds and even less concern for the paying customers. Not one toy in any cage for the parrots. Experts agree parrots need 8-10 toys, these parrots had none.
DEVOID of any educational content. Cages have NO information on parrots and their plight. Some cages do not even say what types of birds are in the cage.
PRICE GOUGING: the sales team at Parrot Jungle will try to grab every last penny you have. $40.00 for a picture with the animals. Think I am kidding? Than see for yourself. Bottled water, $3.00.
No water fountains on site.
CLOSED EXHIBITS: the best exhibit is ALWAYS closed. The MANU ENCOUNTER was closed on the day I was there. Depending who I talked to at Guest Relations these were the reasons: 1. Not enough staff. 2. Staff out sick today. 3. Manu Encounter manager was off-site. 4. The parrots are quarantined. 5. The parrots are breeding and can not be disturbed.
YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER TIME AT A PET STORE THAT SELLS PARROTS. You will learn more, speak to someone who cares for the animals and it is FREE. The Miami Metrozoo is 100 times better, at 1/2 the price. Parrot Jungle is Parrot Exploitation.
