“Nice...but not the same as Parrot Jungle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

It's impossible to compare Jungle Island, the beleagured attraction on Watson Island, with the much beloved, original Parrot Jungle, which was off Old Cutler Road in a veritable jungle of an environment (now it is a county park). I suppose the idea was to make it a more visible, accessible location for tourists, but in my opinion, they killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Now there's a parking garage, an uninspired snack bar, pricey tickets, and a much more urban, less tropical environment. That's not to say that there aren't many things to admire here, the parrots of course! But it's not the same. People still go here and have a wonderful time, it seems...but those of us who fondly remember the old Parrott Jungle are less than impressed. This has been a money-loser from the get-go.

“Nice way to spend a day with the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

I have visited this park a few times. Its a great way to spend the day with family. They have lots of birds and animals. THe kids also have a nice playground. My only complaint would be the food and their high prices. Best to pack yourself a healthy picnic and a few bottles of water. Also they always have the buy a day pass and get an annual pass special.

“enjoyed it & recommend some extras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

We went with family members and everyone enjoyed themselves. It is an oasis of sorts right in the middle of a crazy city. Yes they are right on you when you get in the gate to have pictures with animals, but that is half the fun! It is a very interactive place which we liked. Kind of freaky having these huge gentle birds or snakes etc placed right in your hands or on your head :)There are birds etc everywhere that you are allowed to buy food for and feed, unlike some other attractions in the area. We all ended up buying some of their professional pictures because they turned out so nice. We ate there and got a lot of food for the money. It was just a very nice day overall. We ended up going back another day and doing the lemur experience which we very much enjoyed! There is also a small petting zoo for little kids, you can 'bottle feed' goats etc for a small fee (everything for a fee :) The only thing that worried me a tiny bit is that some of the animals don't get a change of scenery, like for instance the ground hogs at the entrance are in a small cage on wheels, same as a couple conures there too, at the end of the day they just wheel the cages inside the building for warmth, not sure if they ever get out of the cages or a change of scenery, and it sure looked like they wanted too. We were told the lemurs also just live in the one room, which would be a little sad as even though it is very clean with a couple toys, there are no trees or fresh air or plants etc in there. But other than that, we were very pleased with it overall, so if you have some extra cash, it would be the first place in the area we would recommend if looking for an animal experience as we visited a few others too that were not as good.
