I'm an animal lover, so Jungle Island was great for the opportunity to get close to macaws and various other types of animals. I was surprised that the parrots are out on perches for hand feeding, and there are other interaction opportunities like a petting zoo and kangaroos.
Speaking of the kangaroos, the one downside that you can end up spending a lot of money here, especially if you have a big family. Many things cost extra, like going in with the kangaroos (which was worth it for me), having a lemur encounter, and photos with the animals. You're not allowed to use your own camera for the animal photo ops so be prepared to pay if you want the pics.
Water fountains are non-existent, so bring a couple of bottles of water (especially in the summer) or have extra money to shell out on drinks.
Besides the animal exhibits, there are various shows throughout the day. The best two are the bird show and Dr. Wasabi (you WILL get close to animals in this one!). I wasn't too impressed by the wild animal show, which had a really odd vibe and seemed disjointed.
Overall, it's a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon in Miami. Just know what you're getting into and bring that charge card!
