“Exotic animals. ~3 hours to cover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

This place is now called "Jungle Island". It is definitely worth a visit. The entry fee is little on the higher side. I think it was about $34 for entry and $8 to park.

It takes about 3-4 hours to cover and has some really exotic animals. We saw lions, tigers, white lions, liger to name a few.

You can take pictures with macau's, alligators and pythons for a charge ($35 for three pictures). The kids are going to love it for sure.

“Fun But Be Prepared to Spend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

I'm an animal lover, so Jungle Island was great for the opportunity to get close to macaws and various other types of animals. I was surprised that the parrots are out on perches for hand feeding, and there are other interaction opportunities like a petting zoo and kangaroos.

Speaking of the kangaroos, the one downside that you can end up spending a lot of money here, especially if you have a big family. Many things cost extra, like going in with the kangaroos (which was worth it for me), having a lemur encounter, and photos with the animals. You're not allowed to use your own camera for the animal photo ops so be prepared to pay if you want the pics.

Water fountains are non-existent, so bring a couple of bottles of water (especially in the summer) or have extra money to shell out on drinks.

Besides the animal exhibits, there are various shows throughout the day. The best two are the bird show and Dr. Wasabi (you WILL get close to animals in this one!). I wasn't too impressed by the wild animal show, which had a really odd vibe and seemed disjointed.

Overall, it's a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon in Miami. Just know what you're getting into and bring that charge card!

“Good time for family of three”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

Our daughter loved the petting zoo and the contact with the other animals. Dr. Wasabi show was great and tiger show was good. Only downer was how long it took to pay admission. Look for coupons from hotel concierge.

“Very disappointing visit”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

We went to Jungle Island today with two children and four adults. We knew it was expensive but we didn't realize that almost everything the children wanted to do cost extra,
Pet the kangoroos - $5
Have a picture taken with an animal - who knows how much?? and they wouldn't let us take pictures on our own.
We were not allowed to take pictures of their animal shows.

The animals are caged up in a way I remember from the 1960s. Yes, it is a zoo but it is an old-fashioned zoo where the animals are in cages and have little to do other than to sleep. This prompted my 9-year old granddaughter to question if zoos should be allowed.

Very disappointing.
