“Poor condo conversion meets poor amenities...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012 via mobile

Short story:
-Large rooms full of dirty furniture
-4 story ex-condo buildings with broken elevators
-No comp. internet, comp. breakfast, fuzzy cable, and a less than pathetic workout room

Long story:
Won this gem in Hotwire or Priceline. $75 a night for a 3 star. Ya, it was too good to be true. First impression, it looks good with decent grounds and lobby. Then I was put in a room on the fourth floor of a building that appears to be previously used as a condo with no working elevator. Room is larger than a typical hotel room, because they removed the kitchen.
Other rooms have kitchens as I can tell through open windows and shades. In the room, the furniture is dirty, the internet has no signal and isn't included, tv reception is fuzzy, and breakfast is not included in the morning. Checked out the gym, but the 3 broken pieces of equipment from the 70's isn't worth a tetanus shot to workout on.

I'm here on business, so my priorities are different than some. The pool does look clean and the tennis courts are in good shape. This could be an affordable place for someone else to stay if they wanted to be in the Kendall area. Honestly, check out the Best Western 3 miles west with its free internet, breakfast, and gym pass to the adjacent LA Fitness.

We arrived at the hotel after traveling 12 hours overnight and were definitely hoping for an early check in. I had called twice before to request an early check in and was told the usual that if a room was available then we could get in. When we arrived it was about 9am and I approached the front desk and asked to check in and the woman just looked at me and said "check in is not til 3." We ended up being able to get in early but in a different building than the rest of the people that were in town for the same wedding.

We stayed in the heron building at the hotel. The elevator was iffy at best, we made comments about how scary it was on our way to the 4th floor with all of our bags and when we came out of our hotel room later there was a sign on it that it was broken. When we got to our room it was completely unlocked and left open from the cleaning people which is always sketchy. We had a two bedroom suite and it was very spacious. The furniture is pretty old and the TV has a sticker on it talking about having a tracking device if you try to steal it. The beds were comfortable enough and the couch folded out to be a 3rd bed. About half the power outlets in the room did not work. The second bathroom had the usual toiletries except for they were already half gone. The room cleaning was poor. The air conditioning unit was horribly noisy in the second bedroom making it hard to sleep.

There is almost a full kitchen which is nice that you do not have to eat out. There is no microwave so you cannot reheat most food that you do bring home. There was a sign for ice machines on the 1 & 3rd floor and neither of them worked. When we called the front desk expecting them to bring ice they stated the one on the 2nd floor should be working.

I went to check out at the front desk just to make sure all the charges were correct and there was only one person working the front desk around noon so after waiting in like for 15 minutes I simply walked out.

We did not have a great experience at this hotel but it gets the job done. Its definitely affordable if you are traveling with a large group with the option of the 2 bedroom suite. We will not be staying here again.

I was spending 2 nights in the area and booked this hotel because of the larger rooms and proximity to local shopping. There is a large mall nearby and lots of chain restaurants.

It is among a couple of hospitals and a good option if you need a place to stay while visiting someone at those facilities.

The grounds are run down some and landscaping needs some attention, but for a basic hotel it is fine. It is not a lobby based hotel. Each building has a key access entry. It doesn't feel the safest so stay alert.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite for 6 nights: 2 adults and 2 children. This accommodation had everything we needed and then some: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, huge living room, a refrigerator, a range, and a microwave (for $5/day extra). So, we were able to save a lot of money by buying food in local supermarkets and having breakfast and suppers in the suite.

Many people say the hotel is run down. I did not notice much of the decay, but I am not especially picky. Granted, this is no Marriott or Sheraton, but you get what you're paying for. The beds were clean, the stuff was friendly, albeit many workers had limited English. People at the front desk answer the phone immediately and speak perfect English. At one point I phoned the front desk and requested additional coffee packs (oh, yeah, the suite also has a coffee machine). They were brought to me within 10 minutes, at no charge.

The pool was somewhat far from our apartment, about 5 minutes walk, but the good thing is that it is open until 11PM at night. The property has plenty of parking: I was always able to park within 30 feet of the entrance. The area felt safe and quiet at night. The location is good for excursions around South Miami, the Everglades and upper Keys: about an hour one way to Key Largo and Shark Valley, about 2 hours to Flamingo visitor center.

Bottom line: this hotel has decent quality for the money. Will stay there again if I am in the area with the family.

This used to be a Radisson hotel years ago but now it is a rundown building - don't be deceived by the semi-decent outside appearance. The room was dirty, so dirty, that even the lampshades were stained. The newest thing in the room was the alarm clock. There was a large amount of dust settled on the blinds and curtains which made me wonder if the room had been cleaned at all this year.

If you decide to stay here I suggest bringing a whole lot of antibacterial wipes to sanitize everything. You also may want to bring a vaccum, a set of sheets, and some pillows. Or just spend a few more bucks and stay somewhere else!

We have stayed at the hotel three times in the last year. The bed and breakfast rate is hard to beat and though it is not a luxury property it is value for the rate. We use the hotel for visits to the Baptist Hospital right next door which is very convenient. we rent a car and find it easy to get around to shops and nearby Dadeland Mall. For a leisure trip we would stay out by the beach but for practicality, access to Kendall area and hospital it is ideal for us. The rooms are huge and were not originally designed for pure hotel use, I think, hence they are much larger. There are some areas of the hotel that could do with upkeep but the general feel of the property is quite acceptable

Room Tip: Rooms in egret block have slightly shorter walk to breakfast area

The service is poor and the hotel is not clean. It looks very run down with marks on the wall, old paint. Very deteriorated. Just last month (September 2011) I made a reservation for three family members. The staff did not treat them with respect. We complained to management and they promised a discount that never became a reality. A month later (October 2011) another family member decided to stay against my recommendation. Besides the sloppy appearance of the property, the roof leaked on his room on day two of this visit. This happened in the morning. The carpet was very wet. Well, they told him simply that he had to wait until 3PM to see if a room was available. Not until 4PM did they told us upon asking that a room was available. He moved. I asked for a discount for the inconvenience and they told me to come the next day to speak to the manager. The manager refused to offer a discount for the first 20 minutes. She later said she could reduce the rate $20 dollars only. The other issue of the hotel is the breakfast. During both visits multiple guests questioned if breakfast was included since the hotel give you the appearance it is always included. Well that is not the case, the breakfast is included for the $99 plus fares.

Do not stay. Consider instead Hotel Indigo about 1.5 aways or a hotel in the Dadeland area.
