“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

We had a suite with wrap around balcony on 15th floor overlooking Biscayne Bay and pool. View was gorgeous and room was very nice with 1 and 1/2 baths and a small kitchen with a mini bar, with a pull out sofa/bed. They had a Peruvian food restaurant with great cerviche adjacent to the pool area and overlooking the Bay also.
The hotel is within walking distance to Monty's which has great stone crab and also a Fresh Market and of course in the middle of "The Grove". There is great french restaurant called "Le Bouchon" there with sidewalk dining.
The only drawback to whole experience was a park next door where local youths played and yelled into the night. This can be solved I think by staying in the main building facing the Bay.

Room Tip: see above.

Recently stayed at the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel for a weekend business trip. I had a bayview room on the 19th floor. It was such an awesome view that I spent the two mornings I was there just laying in bed watching the sunrise over the bay before I had to attend my meetings downstairs. The room was clean but very small. The was a narrow hall from the room door that led into the bedroom. The hall was so narrow that the bathroom door just barely opened into it. But the bathroom was plenty big with a garden tub. The room had a fridge that was stocked with liquor and drinks and there were even snacks (M&MS, candy bars and such) I didnt partake in any of it as the bottle of water was $6. The bed was very comfortable with more than enough linens. I personally prefer lots of pillows on the bed and was happy to see this room had seven (five on the bed and two in the closet).

The food catered by the hotel during the meetings was above average and the service was very good. Servers were very attentive and polite.

The drawbacks. This hotel also has residents. I was next to a resident who had a dog that whined and stratched at the door. Additionally, I could smell the dog in the hall of my room. The front desk was unable to move me my first night because they were sold out, but offered to move me the next day. As I was only there two nights and the dog didnt make noise overnight I decided to stay in the room and not go through the trouble of moving.

The rooms were obviously painted with a sprayer as there was paint around the edges of my window.

TV channel selection was sub-par. I haven't stayed in hotel in a very long time that didn't have HBO.

Other attendees of my meeting who were not fortunate enough to have a bayview room had a street side room and complained about the noise coming from the bars late in the night.

Although the pro's outweighed the con's, I was really turned off by the dog and tiny room. Thankfully the bed was very comfortable.

CMF_Travels,
Thanks for visit and feedback about your stay. We are pleased that you had a positive experience and we hope you will return soon. Next visit we recommend you consider one of our other rooms types as they offer the same amenities but are larger than our Superior rooms. Waking up with the great view of the bay is a great way to start the day!

Spent a week in a deluxe room which was big and comfortable but lacking in style and totally bland unless you like everything cream coloured.Given an inferior room on arrival with no kitchen despite paying for the upgrade to deluxe on advice of a previous guest. After a call to reception got the room changed to one with the right specification. Our room was on the 9th floor with city views which basically means looking onto the hotel multi-storey car park and appartments beyond.I think you would want to be higher up to get any sort of view on the city side and the best views will be from those rooms looking over Biscayne Bay.The hotel restaurant/bar is pretty basic and lacks any style/atmosphere but the continental breakfast is good and the breakfast staff were all friendly and attentive, especially Geraldine.Coconut Grove I think has seen better days with much of the centre boarded up but still managed to get pretty lively at night with a fair spread of restaurants all wthin easy walking distance.Personal favourites were the French bistro(very popular so need to book) and the Charterhouse for great seafood.

Lizzie088,
Thank you for your comments about our restaurant staff and their attentiveness. Our Panorama Restaurant offers amazing Peruvian inspired cuisine and equally amazing views of the bay. You can checkout those views and our menu at www.sonesta.com.

My husband, our 14yr old son and I stayed for 10 days over Xmas. We all thought the hotel was lovely - very modern and well equipped. We stayed in a City View 1 bed suite which has a double bedroom and my son slept on the sofa bed in the lounge area. However, as other reviewers have stated, there is a Nightclub nearby which does not close until 3-4am which is annoying when you're trying to sleep. The room had a small kitchenette area which was useful, although a large dishwasher for us was pointless as we only made coffee & toast as we ate out each evening. I would have personally preferred a washing machine. The pool area is really lovely - the pool is heated and there is a very polite, helpful young man (sorry, forgotten his name!) who gives you towels and helps you with anything you want. The restaurant's food is excellent - especially breakfast - although not cheap. Also - the hotel has valet parking although this costs $23 per night.
Cocowalk is only a 5 minute walk with various restaurants & shops. There are also various shopping malls within a short drive and the American Airlines Arena (where we spent Xmas Day!) was only a 10 mins drive.
We found the reception staff, the restaurant staff, car valets and the ladies that cleaned our room each day all extremely friendly.
We are looking to visit Miami again next Xmas - although we would only stay at the Sonesta again if they could guarantee us a room far away from the nightclub!

Room Tip: Rooms with a Bay View, not City View - that way you will be further away from the late night music.

Thank you for sharing your holidays with us at Sonesta! We are very happy that we made your family feel right at home. We appreciate your feedback about the music as we are working with the City on this. We also offer rooms with and without full kitchens as other options and some rooms also have a pretty nice view of the bay. You can see all the options at our website. We look forward to your return.

Our party is two couples in the Palm Suite, room 1901. Our room has great views. The 2 bedrooms are large enough, and the living room, w/ balcony access is beautiful. The kitchen is small but sufficient. Linens are great, pillows comfortable and there are 2.5 baths, 1 w each bedroom. The tubs are large w jets - very nice! Shower is also very good.
For a two bedroom, only one couch in the living room isn't enough. We pulled in chairs from the bedroom. Kitchen supplies are very limited. What is here is good enough, but the coffee maker is a mini, and the room is supplied w only one little coffee pouch a day. (Mini bar will sell you more.) There is a medium sized frying pan and one pot. That's it for cookware. There is one large dull knife. We bought one. No spatula or other cook spoon, etc. No salt, no pepper, no serving pieces (large spoon or fork, platter, etc).
We walked to Fresh Market, about 0.4 mi away. This market is okay, but overpriced and some basics weren't there - weird.
The best Trip Advisor tip we got was about the $15/day parking. It is timed noon to noon, self park, w in and out. The Sonesta offers $23/day valet only. (Maybe they park next door, at the $15 place??)
The fitness center on the roof has great views, and is equipped w machines (cardio and resistance), free weights and TVs. The temp is cool enough to be comfortable while exercising.
The location is great, walk to restaurants, shops, parks. We are 2.2 miles from Vizcaya - worth the time - beautiful and interesting.
Right now we are watching the Superbowl. We are from SF and it's looking grim. But our couch is comfortable, there is a perfect breeze from our patio, we are enjoying pizza and beer...life is pretty wonderful! We'd all come back to the Sonesta.

We are glad you and your friends enjoyed the area and found all that you needed nearby. The Fresh Market is a national specialty market just a short walk from the hotel which is very popular with locals. The parking garage next door is not associated with the hotel and their rates and rules are set by the owners of that facility. Like all of the other hotels in the area, we offer Valet Parking services only and also offer the lowest rate in the area for these services. February is great month to come to Miami and we hope you return for another visit soon.

The Sonesta offers suites with an equipped kitchen, bedroom, 1 1/2 baths, and a wrap around porch with a fabulous view of Biscayne Bay and Miami. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We did have a few plumbing issues, which they tended to immediately. There are dozens of great restaurants within easy walking distance, a lovely marina just steps away, and a nice park just down Bayshore Drive. There seems to be a lot of live music in the Grove. Great unless you are trying to sleep. I think the hotel is pet friendly; Coconut Grove certainly is. Don't miss the rooftop pool!

Room Tip: Bay view is the ideal, but our city view room also had a very nice view of the Bay. I suspect the ro...

My girlfriend and I visited Miami to see my aging Aunt and Uncle and stayed two nights at the Sonesta in Coconut Grove. Great location, right near a lot of activity, great restaurants, short walk to the harbor. I would have given it five but you have to valet park your car which unexpectedly added $23 per night onto the room rate. Didn't eat at the hotel at all because there are so many good places in short walking distance. Pool was perfect, heated, saltwater, with a hot tub overlooking the harbor. I would go back.
