“Wedding at Sonesta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

We just had our civil wedding at the Sonesta and it was a wonderful experience! The staff were extremely professional and really made us feel like royalty. The atmosphere for the wedding was just perfect. The ceremony site and the banquet hall looked beautiful and everything was coordinated wonderfully.

The hotel has a very personal feeling to it - we had dinner at the hotel the day after the wedding and all the staff remembered us and really took good care of us. The food is also fantastic!

Room Tip: Try to choose a room directly facing the bay (east)

Heavenly. Beautiful room with the views of Biscayne Bay, what a treat! My room had a kitchen with granite tops, terrace facing the bay, ultra modern, spacious, fabulous. Very helpful staff,
great breakfast on the 8th floor. Nice pool, and great gym. Too bad that Coconut Grove has a lot of empty stores,Not as vibrant as it used to be. Fantastic Hotel, I would highly recommend this hotel, I really enjoyed my stay, and so did my husband who never likes anything! The only thing was about 4am helicopters were flying about, and we thought we were being attacked, we were on the 19th floor, and we experienced 9/11 being New Yorkers. THe walls were shaking, very scary, until my husband went out on the terrace, and saw that they were US Government Helicopters. What a scare! A Fantastic stay!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade.

Stayed here for two nights, wonderful views of the city and the bay and yatch club from the 21st floor room, exellent restaurant and pool on the 8th. Hotel parking is exessive at $26 a day but you can do it for $5 just across the street. We had a large room with two queen beds, big bathroom and a kitchenet that we didn't use, with a microwave, 2 burners, a small frige and a sink.
Walking to all restaurant, movies and bars. 10 min drive to downtown Miami and 20 min, to South Beach with good traffic that is. Will stay thera again.

Dear carlos h,
We are pleased you enjoyed all that Coconut Grove has to offer. We offer Valet Parking only and it is $23 overnight but it is also the lowest in the area. Thank you for your feedback on your visit to our hotel. We are looking forward to your return.
Sincerely,

We have stayed at the Sonesta in Coconut grove now on three different occasions. This last visit was particularly disappointing because we were there for our son's graudation and had my parents with us.
The first day it took us an hour to get a simple Continental breakfast at the pool-side restaurant. The second day, it took my Mom 90 minutes and several phone calls to get room-service breakfast served to her.
I had laundry done and it was delivered late. When I inquired with the front desk, they said they had tried to deliver it, but that we had a "Do Not Disturb" sign haning on our door. This was not the case as we had been out all day. I was curious and peeked my head out of door, and noticed that the room next to us had the sign hanging on their door.
Finally, average wait time to get the car from the garage was about 15 minutes, and once took 20 minutes.
Something has definitely happened with management at the hotel since the last time we stayed there only three months ago.

The Sonesta Bayfront is a nice hotel, that being said - it's no Mayfair or Grove Isle!
The restaurant Panorama is excellent, having won 'Best of the Grove four years running. The 8th floor pool/lounge was a bit of a disappointment, much smaller than the Mayfair but the view is phenomenal!!!
The deluxe city view rooms are small and the bathrooms smaller, but all usual perks are here. Though our mini-fridge is not working. The 42" flatscreen TVs are excellent, though I was unable to get it to recognize the HDMI output from either my laptop or tablet. But the Sonesta has the best wifi connections I've had anywhere else in Coconut Grove.
It's proximity to the bayfront, shopping and dining are excellent, everything is within walking distance.
While I would definitely stay here again for weekday business trips, I prefer the 'decadance' of the Mayfair and the Grove Isle Resort & Spa when taking romantic weekends with my wife.
Though next time I will opt for suite accommodations as it will be easier to compare to my two Grove favorites!

Dear aicwebmaster,
We are pleased that you had a good deal for accommodations in Coconut Grove during your recent visit to our hotel. As you mentioned we have great wifi and best of all, it is free. We have several different types of suite accommodations and I recommend you consider staying in one on your next visit.
Sincerely,

Stayed here for 2 nights and would recommend if you want to be walking distance form the shops and restaurants. There is a car park right next door, 2 minute walk if you do not want to do valet parking. We had a large room with two beds with a balcony and large bathroom. The room was fine for 4 of us for 2 nights. It had an amazing restaurant with great views and you could dine around the pool at night. This is an amazing setting under cabanas with lots of candlelight. Also they do wine tasting early evening, although we never made it either night. The hotel lobby was light and modern with cold water to help yourself too. I would stay here again. We loved 'Bayside' for eating & drinking - probably more than South Beach at night, its not as mad - although you must go and see South Beach.

Room Tip: We ended up with a city room, but had a seaview too

Nice Hotel but expensive for what you get - try the Mayfair for a little better deal.
