“Fantastic. The highlight of our trip. We will definitely go back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2011

My husband and I booked into this hotel for four days at the beginning of our Silver Wedding trip. From the moment we booked in we knew we were in for a fabulous time. We had been upgraded to a suite which was like a small apartment. I almost moved in permanently. The large living/dining room was beautifully furnished and decorated and the open plan kitchen was well stocked. The views from the sliding doors which led out onto the balcony were of the city of Miami. There was a powder room off the living room which had a washing machine and tumble dryer housed in a cupboard. Through into the large bedroom (with a very large and comfortable bed) revealed breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay through the sliding doors and out onto the wrap around balcony on one side and the sliding doors out onto the balcony city side. Then walk in closet was well stocked with hangars and housed a safe and ironing board and iron. The shower room was well stocked with quality toiletries and large fluffy white towels. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and fresh. There was a large television in the living room and bedroom and free wifi connection which enabled us to keep in touch with everyone 'back home', and research the local area. The complementary champagne and chocolate strawberries were much appreciated on arrival after a long flight.
The pool bar and restaurant area on the 7th floor was comfortable and cool with a nice breeze and the sun loungers had lovely squashy cushions. The staff are helpful and friendly and give the impression that they are seriously interested in you having a good time and interested in you. The Peruvian food is delicious.
The public areas are bright and furnished with individual art work which even if not to your taste is a great talking point. The staff from the bell boys, the bar staff the reception staff, the young man who dealt with the towels, the chambermaid and the chaps who parked the car were helpful, pleasant, friendly and remembered your name. Special thanks must go to Elizabeth Dubon who went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. When asked if there was anything we needed, we asked if it was possible to have a kettle in order to boil water for tea as we were using a saucepan and within an hour a hob kettle arrived. Someone had been out to buy it! We enjoyed our stay so much we booked a day visit after our cruise before flying home and there was the kettle.
Coconut Grove is a lovely area with lots of bars and restaurants and a marina. It is out of the main bustle of Miami and very pretty. We discovered a fresh food market near the hotel and the produce was wonderful so I was also able to indulge my love of cooking. A drive down to the Keys is well worthwhile but use a sat nav. Seaquarium is also well worth a visit but prepared to be soaked, especially if you are close and are presented with a flower by a dolphin. we enjoyed our nine day cruise but really looked forward to going back to the Sonesta even though it was just for a day. We had to leave all too soon and wish we could have stayed longer. We have stayed in 2 other Sonesta hotels and thought the Sonesta St George in Luxor could not be bettered but this hotel did better that in spades.
I can't wait to go back.

First and foremost as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a warm welcome at the front desk with the friendliest staff..2nd the hotel itself is very easy to navigate in and around the city itself and 3 it was so awesome that i was upgraded to a nice room with a kitchen and as for those 3 things I'm very pleased with the staff thank you Eugine Birgen and Irlanda garcia.

Room Tip: ver very clean and even the gym was well equiped!!

The Hotel Sonesta is in a great location, in the heart of Coconut Grove. If you are not from the area that means to you that you are 20 minutes away from South Beach and Downtown, you are close to Coral Gables and 20 minutes north of Dadeland Mall (we checked it out because it has the largest Macy's in Florida and we love Macy's).
We had the upgrade to a bay view room: that makes a difference. From the window you can see the bay, filled with anchored boats, Coral Gables, and of course, the pool beneath you.

The fitness center is small, but has everything you need. And machineries actually work! It was nice to have a short 30 minutes daily work-out. Gym towels are supplied, so no need to bring any from home.

Talking about bringing stuff from home, unless you need them for the beach, you don't need towels for the pool either. The pool area is great: nice pool on the 8th floor, by the Panorama restaurant, great views from the pool, nice deckchairs with a soft cushion, very comfortable.

Employees were all nice and professional, we didn't ask for much but the little we interacted with them was good. The valets are good. You pay $ 23/night for parking, so tips are on you. A lot of guests weren't tipping. I decided to tip when I was getting the car, $ 2.00.

Panorama Restaurant: didn't go there for dinner, but had breakfast and cocktails. Breakfast is good and plenty, a good deal especially considering the nice environment you are having breakfast in. Cocktails are great (The Sour Apple martini, The Cosmo and others): very strong, nicely balanced (unlike the ones you get in most of places in South Beach, but that's another story).
The only thing is they close by 11 p.m.

Overall the stay was great. The location is perfect: in the Grove, close to everything but if you want to sleep, you can (try doing that on Ocean Drive...).

Oh, nearby, there's a nice place called Peacock something. You need to try their Basil Sangria, and also their appetizers are great. The place is in a nice gardened area, really relaxing, good food, good drinks, nice servers. It's great for an early afternoon bite and drink while you think where to go next.

Sonesta offers Internet access, but in the lobby. From the room you can't get Internet access. From the lobby and pool area it works nice. More than enough for us.

Finally, the room are spacious enough, well kept, clean. This place will be my first choice for future trips to Miami.

Considering we got an a great price via Priceline.com, this trip was a blast and Sonesta was just great.

I was in Sonesta for a three days conference. The meeting rooms, IT connections, restaurant and snack had a high quality standard.
On the other hand, the services like front desk, maintenance and back office was very kind and polite.

Great location in Coconut Grove.

I stay here for business, and recently had a complication with two reservations. To make a long story short, the Staff was very eager to resolve the problem, minimize the inconvenience and I genuinely feel they actually care. Regardless of the industry, this type of feeling is hard to come by these days and knowing it still does exist should make your decision very easy if you are looking to stay at the Sonesta.

I would like to personally thank Elizabeth Margaret! Thank you again!

Sean

Room Tip: Ask for a bayside - gorgeous view.

- try the breakfast after a little swim in the rooftop(actually on 8 floor)
- jacuzzi with a pina-colada at 6 pm
- nothing to say about the room and it is a compliment for a business try when you remember only the negative aspects.
- get a late check-out with a smile at the reception
- try the ceviche of the jaguar 1 block away
- promise yourself to come back !

The Sonesta Bayfront Hotel Coconut Grove is an elegant hotel in a great setting. It has views of lovely Sailboat Bay and is less than a block from the lively village of Coconut Grove. The area within a short walk offers many restaurants and shops, movie theatres, and beautiful parks and tropical gardens. The service in the hotel is excellent; the staff are extremely courteous and friendly. The restaurant in the hotel offers delicious food at very reasonable prices. The outdoor pool is on the eighth floor with magnificent views. Many (if not all) of the rooms have kitchen areas, including minimally a sink and microwave oven. All in all, the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel Coconut Grove is our favorite hotel for relaxation and fun. We especially enjoy waking up in a bay view room, walking along the marina, swimming and sunning, and strolling through Coconut Grove.
