“very good indeed !!”

Mandarin Oriental

My partner and i have just completed a one night stay at the Mandarin Miami. What struck us the most was the size of our room, it was huge! The bathroom was well appointed with high end extras for you to use( we took these home)and i particularly like the BOSE sound system, very swish. One down side about the room was the lack of Plasma/LCD tv,just one of those old boxy things. The room did not have tea/coffee facilities so if you wanted a cup of either you hade to use room service, this can be expensive but also a chore. We did not eat at the hotel but at a nearby Italian restaurant which was excellent . Would i stay again?....yes if the rate was good as you do pay for every thing and i mean every thing so your bill soon mounts up.

“Lovely hotel...but more trendy than great”

I stayed at the MO for 4 days. The hotel is up to the standard you would expect for a 5 star property, although the land constraints of downtown Miami mean you don't get the wild size and luxury of some other properties. The rooms are lovely and the staff mostly helpful and knowledgable. There is some tendency to trency over great...which is what seperates it from my favourite recent hotel - the Four Seasons Boston.

“Something of a disappointment in comparison with other MOs”

I have always been a big Mandarin Oriental fan but must confess that the Miami one was a disappointment and I would not return. The famed Martini bar is very small and the infinity pool minute (three strokes and you've reached the other end). The service, although always given with a smile, is slow and the automatic gratuity added to the bill simply an irritant. Moreover, should you go onto the private beach section, be sure to spray yourself with anti-bug bite spray as otherwise you will be eaten alive.

But on a more positive note, their restaurant Azul is superb and having the Tasting Menu is a must.

“2 Star Service at a 5 Star Hotel”

Mandarin Oriental

Nov 20, 2007

I recently stayed at the Mandarin and expected much better service than I received. The service turned bad when I returned to my room to change for the evening and realized that the hanger that I brought with me to hang my suit on was missing from the room. I searched all over because even at 2 star hotels the maids know not to throw anything away unless it is in the trash can. Well the maid threw it away so I had nothing to hang my suit on for my travel back home. I then called the housekeeper to get them to bring me a replacement "plastic hanger" but was delivered a bulky wooden hanger. They later brought me a wire hanger, once again not what I asked for. When I spoke to the manager on duty he assured me that he would get what I needed but he never even called to say that he couldn't get it. I guess I was a little dissappointed since I am accustomed to the Ritz who will send someone across town to get whatever it is that you desire if they don't have it there. I have to say that when I checked out the lady at the front desk was very apologetic and tried to compensate me for my inconvenience. So FYI, don't leave anything lying around that you don't want to be thrown away. Other than that, the hotel was wonderful.

“Excellent!”

Mandarin Oriental

I stayed at the Madarin Oriental for 2 nights at the end of October with my parents and my now new fiance. When we checked in we were giving an upgrade to a bay view which was lovely and having got such a good deal due to the time of year we were even more pleased. The hotel was fairly empty during our stay but I liked it as the there was plenty of room round the pool. The staff's attention to detail was excellent, on the trip my boyfriend actually proposed and had asked one of the hotel staff to set up our room for us. When we arrived back from shopping I walked into our beautiful room with candles round the bath and rose petals on the bed and a sushi shaped cake, it was lovely.
The manager of the hotel was very friendly and extremely helpful.
The location I liked, yes it is a little quiet and very different from South Beach but I enjoyed this, you would definately need a car though or to take cabs.
Overall our stay was excellent. Having been to Miami a few times now and stayed in a few different places I would definately come back to the Mandarin Oriental for the right price.
