“Nice Layout Property and Rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I was very impressed of the layout of the rooms. The floor plan was open and kitchen very nice and stocked with blender, pitcher, and other items that were functionally useful. Living room and balcony overlooking the golf course adjacent to a large open master bedroom and bathroom. I wish my apartment looked like this!

Mini golf course, large chess game, bean bag tic-tac-toe toss, shuffleboard were very well placed along the pond of the property. Pool and hot-tub were close but no too.

The fitness center was medium sized but appeared small because of it's narrow layout. I've worked in Fitness and PT for many years so I was surprised to see no fit balls or medicine balls. All in all not bad equipment nice and in great condition.

Lastly, this property is right near Miami Airport. It didn't bother my crew, it's fun to watch planes come in to land.. after a couple of days it's not as noticeable.

Room Tip: The resort offers free shuttle the Mall.. Also you have use of the Trump properties and golf course...

We are time share owners of Aruba Surf Club - we have stayed at other Marriot time shares and hotels. We stayed from 8/16-8/23. We chose this resort because we were dropping off our freshman at the U. We had to fly in from New York and needed to use it as a home base.Dirty is the word I would use to describe this location. The unit we stayed in had stains on the couches and chairs - the unit had not been dusted or mopped in some time. If you chose not to use the elevators there was only one staircase that could be used to enter the pool or to go to and from your car. The open stairwell was outright filthy. Pool rules were not enforced - smoking in the pool area, guests in pool at 2am in the morning? Drive right by this timeshare-

Marriott's Villas at Doral
Mixed reviews for this resort. As loyal Marriott customers and Marriott time-share owners, we’ve stayed at many, many M(arriott) properties. Doral is pretty good, but not the best.

Location: Smack dab in the suburb of Doral, so Walmarts and Applebees in every direction. Good locale for R&R/golf but takes some driving to Miami downtown or beaches: 20-25 mins (moderate traffic) for downtown and more for the beaches. Heavy traffic is common.

Property: Resort is small for those used to large, rambling M resort properties. For instance, our home resort (in Orlando) has three swimming pools where Doral only has one; along with only one hot tub and one outdoor “restaurant/bar”. Restaurant/bar food was very good and fairly priced but place opens late and closes early on most nights. Property is very clean and well-maintained. Exception is the pool which was barely bussed during our stay. We had to clear dirty dishes and used towels nearly every trip to the pool. My husband did say something to the attendant at the restaurant/bar but no action was ever taken. Ongoing construction in stairwells/sidewalks inconvenienced us a few times but was not a big deal. (Doral management generously compensated all guests with an on-site store credit of $25 that week.)

Activities: Like other M resorts, Doral organizes daily activities for guests. Although we mostly sightsaw on our own, we did participate in a few – which get mixed reviews. A nighttime movie at the pool was poorly run; started a half hour earlier than posted, impossible to hear and difficult to see. However, their 4th of July activities were plentiful, fun and very well run. For kids, there are pool toys, a small mini-golf course and a game room. (Unfortunately most of the video games in the game room were out of order the week of our stay.) Pool cabanas are free and terrific for those planning lengthy stays at the pool. Didn’t use the gym, spa or golf course but all looked great. There is shuttle service between Doral and the Trump resort next door. We used it several times and it is very convenient.

Villas: Wonderful. Definitely up to the Marriott standard and beyond. We had a 2-BR/2-BA overlooking the pool. Very spacious, comfortable and up-to-date; all appliances worked well with ample storage for four adults and one teen.

Service: Good. Everyone was generally pleasant and helpful. However, when we asked if we could get shuttle service to a 4th of July fireworks display about four blocks from their regular run to the Trump resort, we were denied repeatedly --- until we offered to pay!! LOL We were happy to finally get the assistance but really think that service should have been complimentary given the holiday.

All in all a pretty good resort but if you plan to do lots in Miami or South Beach, stay closer to downtown.

Room Tip: Pool stayed noisy until after 11pm most nights - so stay away from pool if you go to bed early.

Although the property does not have as stunning a location as some of the other Marriott timeshare properties, it is by far the best family deal. We were at the property for just 3 nights but during the summer, think summer break, the points required is less than I have seen at any other Marriott property. The villas themselves have been kept up beautifully. The outside hallways look a little worn, but who's spending time in the hallways anyway. The pool, although not large is perfect for smaller children. There also are an abundance of daily activities (including free activities) in which to participate that wont break the bank.

Need a summer getaway? This is your place.

Room Tip: Great vacation value

I've stayed at the Doral twice already. The golf course is fantastic! The hotel is very nice. I absolutely love the spa they have there. It is so luxurious and the massages are truly excellent. The spa facility is clean and beautiful. Whenever I need a good vacation, I come here because of the spa. It is that good. The property is also very nice, of course, the golf course is beautiful. The rooms are a nice size, very clean and comfortable.

Four of us travelled to Miami to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. I chose this property since I have stayed at other Marriott vacation properties before. We stayed 5 nights here. Great location...plenty of restaurants, close to shopping, and a short distance to downtown Miami and the beaches. The villa was very accommodating; HOWEVER, there was a slight problem...ants and fruit flies!!!! The ants got into our food and the flies were a nuisance!! The front desk staff and housekeeping were attentive to this problem (even had the company Ecolab to come out), but they did not offer a service for the fruit flies. Also the dishwasher leaked and there were problems with the toilet. We were offered a coupon to the poolside bar and was given a credit on our bill for the inconvenience! Great staff! Nice amenities! Overall, a good stay but could have been GREAT without those issues!

Room Tip: I usually request a higher floor for great views!

Four of us just returned from Marriott's Villas at Doral and had a wonderful 7 night stay, June 29-July 6, 2013. The two bedroom, two bath unit we had in the Palm Building (Building 7) was clean and comfortable. Units have full kitchens and washer/dryers in-unit. The master bedroom had a large tub in the open area directly adjacent to a double sink vanity near the king size bed. The large shower and the toilet are in a more traditional location in a bathroom with door. Since we were traveling with two teenage boys, the extra bedroom would have been better to have two twin beds. Instead, there is a double/full and a pull-out sofa which made space a little tight when set up. A single vanity bathroom with combo shower/tub is directly adjacent to the second bedroom. The boys didn't complain about their set-up, and one mentioned the pull-out was very comfortable.

The property has several good amenities including a salt-water swimming pool, game room, workout/exercise room with weights, mats and about ten machines, all in very good condition. My wife and I worked out a couple of times during our stay and were happy with the room. The game room has a pool table, ping-pong, shuffle board and a few arcade games including air hockey table (extra cost). Outdoors (for free) there is a small 9-hole mini golf, some bean bag and toss games set up on the artificial turf scattered around the walkways, and near the pool, a giant chess set and full size shuffle board. Our family had a fun Mom & Dad vs. teenagers playing all of the games. Mom & Dad lost, of course, (especially bad in ping pong)!

Activities are scheduled throughout the day, every day. We were busy exploring Miami, driving down to the Keys, kayaking at John Pennecamp State Park, going to free(!!) first Wednesday at Fairchild Botanical Gardens, and just playing around the property and by the pool, so we didn't participate much except for a) Happy hour at the Deco bar (try a mojito or sangria, plus chicken wings), and b) the Dive-in movies shown on the giant inflatable screen near the pool. We were there on July 4th and fireworks show in the nearby Doral community park were spectacular and visible from the stairwells on the higher floors, especially closer to the main lobby building. We actually could see the distant firework shows to the east in Miami, and to the south (Key Largo?). No need to get caught in traffic and the local park fireworks show lasted the longest!

This Marriott property is also across from the Trump Doral resort and golf course. We didn't have a need to visit but we were told there is still renovation construction going on which had shut down some restaurants while we were there. Marriott guests have courtesy access and use of the pools and facilities across the street at Trump.

One of the best features of this Marriott is the Villas at Doral staff. My wife and I both agree that the employees and service at this Marriott are some of the best! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. On our second full day (Monday), we put some laundry into our in-unit washer and left to sight see in the deco district in Miami Beach. When we got back that evening, our clothes were sitting in a full tub of water. The drain and spin cycle did not work in any wash mode. We thought, uh oh, bad start to our stay, we'll probably have to move to another unit, what do we do with a full tub of wash water and wet clothes? So we called the front desk and within 10 minutes, a property maintenance engineer was at our unit, had diagnosed the problem and told us he might have a spare control unit. He did, and within an hour, the washer was taken apart, repaired and put together again, -- and we were soo happy to be able to do laundry on our vacation. A big Thank you to the Marriott Doral maintenance staff!!

We also have to compliment both front desk and the Deco Bar & Grill staff. Always helpful, friendly and informative. And the bartender makes a great sangria!

One caveat - If you are looking for full-service restaurants and bars, dance clubs, multiple swimming pools and loud crowds, this isn't the right place for you. However, if you are looking for a nice base of operations for your vacation in Doral, Miami, the Keys and surrounding south Florida, this Marriott property, its amenities and staff are highly recommended.

Room Tip: Others have pointed out the pool, Deco bar, game room and lobby can be quite a walk for some people...
