“Nice place for a day visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

This is an interesting destination, the place is truly “Old Florida”, dark, musty with a lot of old buildings in a colorful setting. The shops are an interesting mix of local and imported art, antiques and eclectic items. We had lunch at the Village Chalet and sat outside with Abbey. The waiter was polite and the food was prepared and served quickly. The fish sandwich was excellent, fresh and tasty. The burger was also great with Buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil. After lunch, we stopped in an antique store. The owner was very friendly and gave us lots of local history (and color) of the Square. All around the square were cats and raccoons just watching the world go by. Unfortunately, there were many places vacant, perhaps a sign of the times but Cauley Square is worth at least one trip while in the area.

“The worst experience of my life”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The only reason we chose this venue for our wedding was because we fell in love with the natural setting but choosing it was the biggest mistake ever. When we first sat down with the owner Frances we were promised a lot of things that never came through at last minute such as the plates for the catering, ice, silverware even refreshments. Considering the fact that we got the catering through them I thought it was ridiculous that these things were not included not to mention the fact that they let us know at last minute just a couple of days before the wedding. Every time we called to speak to someone about our wedding no one ever knew what we were talking about or they "didn't have our contract". The wedding coordinator Annabell never picked up the phone and was no help at all, the day of our wedding she was no one where to be found. Whenever the owner was available (which was almost never) she was rude and disrespectful. She always had a completely different story about what she was going to include for the catering.
The day of the wedding we came to the venue early to set up, the fountain area where we had our reception was filled with leaves and dirty. We were promised that it was at least going to be cleaned by the time we got there. There was also a bunch of chairs and tables smack in the middle which they refused to move when we finally found a worker. Even the linens were two hours late. When someone finally showed up they were showing the venue while we were setting up which was ridiculous not only that but during our actual wedding and reception they kept showing the venue and our decoration to potential clients even after we told them to please stop. Even when the reception finished we had to clean ourselves because apparently they don't "clean up after you". Planning a wedding is always stressful but the venue and the owner made it the worst experience of my life.
Even after the wedding they kept one of our tables and refused to give it back and HERE'S THE WORST PART after the wedding one of the workers tried to use my mother-in-laws bank account to pay their phone bill.
I DO NOT recommend this place AT ALL. The owner is really rude and doesn't care once she has your money not even your personal information you give them is safe. This is suppose to be a special day and customers should never be treated the way we were treated and taken advantage of. We loved our wedding because we had a lot of help from friends ad family to make it all happen but if there is one thing that I would change is the venue. It was absolutely terrible and all I can say is that I'm glad it's all over.

“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

I brought my girlfriend here, as I remembered it as quaint with good food and service. It's still quaint, but that's all that's the same.

We had a simple order; coffee, tea and ambrosia. The teapot contained lukewarm water. As my girlfriend later said "how can you mess up hot water?". By not heating it sufficiently. The coffee was also lukewarm, frankly just this side of cold.

My girlfriend takes her tea with milk. Our server said they didn't have any. Really? A restaurant that had NO milk? I find that hard to believe.

The ambrosia was "marshmallow soup", again in the words of my girlfriend. At close to $11, you'd think they'd at least make an effort.

I don't know what happened to this place, but save your money. There are so many better places in Miami that deserve your business. The food is unacceptable, the prices are out of line for such poor quality, and the service was lackluster at best.

What a shame. It was once a very nice place.

“Excellent slice of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

This used to be where railroad workers lived. Today it is little shops full of unique items. There is an antique shop, a tea house, a salon, pet store, food stand. It is a place for OUtdoors Weddings and has a small chapel. Plus about 40 raccoon live by the antique shop. Come on out and browse, stay for dinner have lunch. They usually have live music on the weekends.

“Worst experience EVER”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

We made the horrible decision of planning our wedding there because we wanted an earthy kind of look and we fell in love with the environment. Two months before the wedding they let go of the chef and didn't have the courtesy of even informing us. They promised us things and never came through not even with the silverware. Every time we called to even make a payment no one ever knew what we were talking about. They're excuse every time was they didn't have the contracts available. Every time we spoke to the owner we were always given the run around and she never knew what she included with the venues.
We ended up getting the catering elsewhere. Moral of the story is if you're going to have an event here (especially a special day like your wedding) don't rely on them even the owner because they have no idea what they're doing we dealt with them for months and it was incredibly frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at all.
