My wife and I stayed at this hotel over the recent President's day weekend. Our first choice would have been to stay on Miami Beach, but we were using Marriott reward points and were not able to redeem them at a waterfront property. The downtown location would be better suited for business travelers than leisure travelers. It was in the heart of downtown and there were several good restaurants within walking distance. It is a $25 cab ride to the closest beach in South Beach on the 600 block of Ocean Drive (beach was awesome). The hotel pool is on a 7th floor roof deck and only gets sun for limited hours during the day because of surrounding high rises. Rooms are in need of an update; they look a little tired. I see no difference between this "JW Marriott" and other "Marriott" hotels I have stayed at in the past. Ask for a #-02 room... they are end units that have two exterior walls with the 3rd wall being a stairwell... very quiet, no noise from neighbors. Also, the spa at the Viceroy down the street is a MUST!
