Given all the horrible reviews of this place, I was very leery. In fact, after reading all the horrible reviews, I looked into cancelling my reservation, but it was non cancellable.
So, as you can see, I was expecting that this place would be a disaster. In fact, it turned out to be OK. Not great certainly, but OK, especially for the cheap price. I would actually stay here again.
It is not a place a guy would take a girl to for a romantic getaway, but it is a reasonably decent place to lay your head if you are visiting, or doing business in Miami, and just near a place to crash.
The bathroom in my room actually looked rather modern, like it had been renovated.
The room, while it had rather old furniture, was reasonably OK.
It is clear that the person at the front desk does not care a bit about the hotel's clientele. The place has all the charm of a motor vehicle dept. For example, when I was checking in, two foreign guys came up to the front desk to say that their room only had one single bed rather than two double beds, and the front desk guy simply replied, "well that was the reservation you made", rather than saying "let me move you to a different room".
I think that some of the very positive reviews of this place are very circumspect, because you will notice that most of these people have only done a single review on trip advisor, so I suspect the hotel asked friends too write a positive review for them. That being said, the place was decent. Not good, but decent.
However, they do have a $25 parking fee, payable in advance, so while the price of the room is very low, it is not as low as you might think. That being said, I had told the valet that I would be leaving at 9am the next morning, and my car had already been moved to the front of the building when I walked out of the lobby.
One warning however. There is a lot of construction going on in the streets surrounding the hotel, with many streets blocked off, so just doing a mapquest is really not going to cut it. I probably wandered around in my car for a half hour trying to find a way to get to the hotel, given that so many streets were blocked off.
The hotel is kind of in a rather scuzzy area of downtown Miami, but if you drive two minutes over a little bridge, you suddenly enter the Brickell avenue area, and beautiful office buildings and high rise condos.
