“Watch out for valet and leaks from bathroom cieling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Front desk staff was great. Leak in the bathroom (room 319) from ceiling had a nice puddle when we walked into bathroom. Had the deluxe suite and there was nothing sweet about it. No view concrete wall. Felt like I was in a bunker. Pictures of hotel and room are very misleading. The to top the stay off valet helped themselves to my Ipod.

I called the hotel twice, I wrote two emails I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK!

Terrible customer service stay at a different hotel

Room Tip: Don't pay for a deluxe suite it will be a waste of money and don't valet one of them is a th...

Dear JFF47,

It is very concerning to hear that you believe that the valet department "help themselves" with our guest private items, and we have been inspecting our cameras to try to find our what happened but unfortunately we have no prove that shows anyone helping themselves. I am sincerely sorry that an event like would happen to completely ruin your stay in our hotel and I could guarantee you that we do a very detail background check to make sure that all the staff we have in our property is trust worthy and professional.
Once again I would like to reiterate that we have our security teams on high alert to make sure we come up to a conclusion of this matter and also to make sure that all of the personal belongings of our guest and employees are completely safe.

Warm regards,
Jose Rico-Arango

There's no shortage of truly outstanding hotels in Miami, and I can say without hesitation that the Mayfair certainly is one of them. It's not on the beach (though not very far), so you're not likely to want to stay here if that's your only focus, but its location otherwise can't be beat. Coconut Grove is an eclectic, vibrant, trendy and fun part of Miami and the Mayfair is literally right in the heart of it. You're a very short walk from tons of great restaurants, stores and nightlife. The hotel decor is a bit different for Miami--very Mayan/Aztec in style--but it somehow works and fits right in with the surrounding area. The room rates are exceptional, and it's an unbeatable value for the money to stay at a hotel of this quality. The rooms and baths are very large, almost suite-like. They are plush, comfortable, tastefully decorated (lots of wood and marble) and well appointed. The outside patios with hot tubs are a nice touch, if not terribly practical in the summer. The indoor/outdoor inner space and maze-like pattern of the floors take a bit of getting used to, and there are some areas that are very cumbersome to navigate and get to. Though the hotel isn't huge, they could use more elevators as the ones they have seem to move with glacial slowness. All that aside, it's a wonderful place to stay and certainly is a hidden treasure in this city. I've stayed here twice now (once during Xmas/New Years when the weather was absolutely perfect) and have greatly enjoyed each visit, always wishing I could stay longer. The staff are amazingly nice and helpful, without exception, and while we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant (the menu looked good though), we did have after dinner drinks on one of the many inner terraces which was great. There's no shortage of comfy couches, chairs and tables to relax on, but as they're mostly "outdoors" in the hotel's open atrium-like center area, using them during the sweltering summer heat may not be terribly comfortable. In which case strolling over to one of the Grove's multitude of nightspots, or else hiding out inside your cool and very nice hotel room will more than make up for that minor inconvenience. Bottom-line: very few cons; lots and lots and lots of pros!

Based on the hotel website I was expecting a far different experience than the one I had. While the hotel does seem updated, both rooms I stayed in were a little run-down in places. Apparently no rooms in the hotel have a view, and the second room I stayed in had a balcony facing an interior wall. I had two rooms because at 7 am the first morning I woke up to yelling and construction literally off my balcony. When I went to call the front desk, I realized my room phone didn't work. They eventually moved me to a different room where the noise wasn't an issue, but the management needs to address the noise. People going to a hotel marketed as a "spa" probably don't want construction at 7 am.

The rooftop pool was nice, but the view was disappointing. The view in the picture is the full view of the water. All the other vantage points of the water are blocked by another hotel.

Room Tip: If you plan on sleeping in, make sure you ask for a room away from the construction.

Dear Mike L,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us about your recent stay in our property and we are sincerely sorry to hear that the work going on in the outskirts of our property did not allow you to enjoy your stay; unfortunately that's something that the hotel has no control over as this work is being done to separated parts of the building and in no way is related to the hotel, in any way it had a negative outcome on your stay and for that we sincerely apologize.
We hope to have an opportunity to regain your confidence in the near future for you to be able to experience the true tranquility provided in our Iconic property.

Warm regards,

The Mayfair Hotel is the perfect place to stay when visiting South Florida. We came in town for a weekend and enjoyed the atmosphere from beginning to end. The location is superb, literally across the street from great restaurants and the buzz worthy nightlife of Coconut Grove. Our room was equally impressive with its marble floors, Japanese soaking tub, and amazing bathroom. The rooftop pool and bar are stylishly arranged which results in a picturesque view. The Mayfair is only about 10 minutes from South Beach because it is located so close to I-95. We made multiple trips to the beach during our brief stay because of the locations convenience. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an authentic Floridian experience.

Imagine inconsiderate staff, being woken up multiple times with people shouting in the street and a deceptive reservation package.

Our group of 3 couples stayed here in late August. We booked the "Work, Relax, Explore" package, which is the first thing that appears when you go to the website. At the time, it came with a $25 hotel credit per room, free room upgrade and a glass of champagne on arrival. A great package for us as this was our first couples vacation with no kids.

On check-in we asked about how to claim the credits and were told to simply order anything in the hotel and it would be deducted from the bill. So, we went to the bar and ordered their grossly overpriced drinks before heading out on the town. At checkout we were billed for our drinks and told that we had not booked the "Work, Stay and Relax" package. I showed them the exact path on their website and the wording, and was told that we selected the wrong package. I run one of the top 10 websites in the world and know how this works. Their process for funneling customers to booking is very deceptive and they have since changed it...I assume based on my feedback.

I asked the clerk why they didn't inform us of this when we asked about how to claim our $25 credits. No explanation and outright refusal to do anything about it. Very poor customer service.

A few other points. The hotel is noisy. We were woken up at 3:00am by people fighting in the street. Also at 5:00am by another very loud altercation. This hotel is right on the street, surrounded by other buildings so there is no buffer around it to reduce noise.

Our rooms also contained a "kit" for purchase containing lubricants and condoms. It was prominently displayed in the room. I'm not sure if they rent this hotel by the hour. Good thing our kids weren't with us.

Anyway, I would not stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend it.

Just planned a weekend getaway and if the rest of the staff is like Josh, the person that would answer the phone for all my questions I would come up with, he was wonderful, patience and very helpful. Cant wait to escape!!
