After selecting this hotel as our recommendation for our wedding guests, everything that the Mayfair Hotel could mess up they did. This includes but is not limited to:
- cancelling reservations without informing our guests. Our guests arrived to find they had no room on the Friday of a busy weekend.

- losing two items that were left at the front desk for us (and that they acknowledged they received). They told us this only after we called and came by on five separate occasions to pick them up. I guess no one wanted to be the one to have to tell us that they had lost the items. After they acknowledged the error I asked for the items to be replaced (and was willing to accept a 50% replacement cost totaling well under a one-night stay in their hotel). They told me this was not possible DESPITE admitting that they had messed up.

- putting guests in the wrong room type and trying to charge them for more expensive rooms than what they were in. Guests who booked upgraded rooms were put in standard rooms but then, upon check-out given the upgraded price to pay.

The list goes on. This place is horribly managed.

Fun and different. A little on the expensive side at $400 per night / double at high demand time (coconut grove arts festival). Rooms very comfortable with exotic setting and fun layout. Unfortunate that drunk and loud street noise continued unchallenged well into early morning hours ( 2 to 4am!). Hotel security should not be so passive about this as it definitely disturbs guests with many rooms facing street-side. Great location.

We stayed at the Mayfair for a night in February. Our room was comfortable and clean and the bedding was luxurious. The bathroom was very spacious with two sinks and many mirrors. I was disappointed that the 'hot tub' on the balcony could not be used without paying a fee and waiting a significant amount of time for it to be filled. The rooftop pool is a wading pool--only 3 feet deep. The rooftop bar looks cool in the photos but we stayed on Sunday night and by 9 pm everything had closed down. The valet boys were snooty. The reception was polite but not overly friendly or helpful. For what we paid for the room, I was expecting more charming service and a slightly more upscale atmosphere.

I stayed at the Mayfair because it was the recommended hotel for the Miami International Map Fair and because it was supposed to have free in-room WiFi. The room was decent enough except for the clunky sliding closet doors, the cold marble-like floors, and the television without an PBS channel--that I can live with. The lack of the promised in-room WiFi is another matter. I complained several times, and received a variety of excuses or promises, none satisfactory. The staff acted as if I were the only person who ever complained, or promised the IT expert would get to it promptly, or promised that the company's IT person would look at it on Monday (after I was gone). They promised to send someone up twice: once was a no-show and the other was a guy with a Spanish accent who had no idea what a router is or why there was no Ethernet back-up. WiFi worked fine in the 2nd floor lobby, though. I asked for another room but was told that was not possible because they were booked solid. On the good side: banquet service was very good, and the elevators were prompt.
