“Nice, popular hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Went to Miami for a lacrosse tournament. Lots here to entertain 3 teenage boys. Breakfast was decent. Lots of choices. The airport shuttle is convenient. The items in the pantry are very expensive-pay for convenience. The beds are Westin Heavenly Beds and you don't want to get up in the morning. There should be free parking but they charge $9 per day.

Normally I love the Element brand. The rooms are very functional for the business traveler and I love their modern, green sensibility. Best idea EVER not to have carpet in hotel rooms - seriously, even in the high end hotels the carpet gets nasty pretty fast even with immaculate cleaning.

So this Element has all the brand characteristics: great room design, comfortable lobby and beds, good work station. I had a small suite with a full service kitchen in my room which was a nice feature. The staff was helpful and polite. The rooms and facility very clean.

But the location is not great. It is right near the airport, so convenient from that respect. But of course that also means airplanes landing immediately overhead every 5 minutes. And then again. And then again. Downtown Miami off-peak was about 15-20 minutes. Coral Gables was about 30 minutes.

It is also a little hard to find (although GPS was spot on) as it is in along an industrial road that is deserted. I was glad that when I checked in it was light so that when I came back to the hotel in the dark I was familiar with where I was going. Looking for dinner nearby? Better be willing to go several miles. There is NOTHING within 2 miles except fast food along seen-better-days commercial strips. The parking lot is locked and gated after dark leaving me to believe they have had security issues - I wouldn't leave anything in your car, but that is good practice anyway.

Bottom line? If you must be next to the airport the rates are affordable and the hotel rooms very functional. But I suspect that next time even though I love the Element brand and design I will look elsewhere. There are just too many choices, even just among the Starwood properties, to stay again.

Room Tip: The view facing the back where the pool and pond are located is much more attractive than the front...

Stayed for one night on a stopover after a long journey from Hawaii. Overall, the Element brand is a favorite of ours. The room was clean and modern with a full kitchen. The complimentary breakfast as well as complimentary manager's reception is great.

Definitely used the complimentary shuttle they offer to the fullest extent. They run every 1/2 hour and go to/from the airport. Aside from the airport they'll drop you off anywhere within 3 miles. They brought me to the grocery store to pick up some supplies as well as the city train stop at the airport. The shuttles are nice, clean vans and the drivers are very accommodating.

I would probably choose a different hotel if you were planning on going to the beaches, but overall, it's a really great value.

Staying here on SPG points only cost 4000 points, which made the stay even more valuable.

Stayed for 1 night before a cruise. Room was ok but not of a high quality. I expected better from a Westin hotel. Breakfast was an absolute disgrace. Admittedly it was Presidents weekend but there was nowhere to sit, they ran out of food and when I asked for a plate I got a grunt but no plate. In any event from what I saw it was poor quality. When I was checking out I was asked about the stay and I told the guy the story. No apology and he didn't care.
Close to airport but not a good area. Not sure you are safe outside hotel premises and there are no restaurants or shops within walking distance.
Stayed at another airport hotel a week later and it was cheaper and more importantly far better.

Stayed for a couple of nights as an alternative to being right in the city or in Miami Beach. Location near the airport is convenient if you have a car to get around town. Location will throw you off as its right in the middel of an industrial zone and there's lots of road construction going on right now. Rooms were nicely appointed, breakfast buffet was good and overall ambience was nice.

Stayed here labor day weekend. This hotel was awesome, love the decor of the lobby and the rooms. Bathroom was awesome and the hot breakfast was nice. Our room face the the pool and the lake behind the hotel. The location was hard to get to due to road construction and the location is a little eeeh. The price was great as well as the staff. The hotel would probably cost $300 a night if it were on South Beach. The entire staff was awesome, very helpful and curteous whenever you asked or approched them for anything.

Am currently staying here for 6 nights so getting a pretty good feel for the place. Rooms are large as are the bathrooms. Love having a full size fridge. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Shuttle staff dropped me off at my car rental to pick up my car and were very helpful with directions. Shuttle was even outside as we walked out of airport so no wait at all from plane to hotel. Someone complained about the lobby being where check in was-disregard their comments as the eating area is large enough to have a wedding reception in.
Pool is super warm so no shock getting in. Parents who have kids are loving this. They only have 2 umbrellas by the pool and should order about 8 more, not sure why they are only have 2 which is kinda ridiculous. No ice machines either, so you have to ask for ice from the kitchen area and they will give you a bag. I think they should add an ice machine.
The hotel is crazy hard to find as 25th st is closed in one direction. Have your GPS set to the Fox car rental which is only a block or two away so you don't get directed to the closed 25th st. TRUST ME-unless you like driving in circles. Staff should be informing guests of a different close by location to lock on to that would avoid taking you to the closed 25th st as all the GPS devices currently do to get to the Element.
Great coffee machines that spit out lattes, capp, expressos etc. It is only available during breakfast and dinner appetizer hour. Wish they would make that available all day like they do the coffee in the pots. Appetizer nights are Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7. Food looks pretty lame ( think mini corn dogs and bagel bites from Sam's Club) but they give you a free beer or glass of wine. Breakfast ends at 9:30-most hotels I go to end at 10. I think they should add a 1/2 hour.
Room is not sound proof so airport noise might bother some. Not sure why you build a hotel on the end of an airport runway and not make it more sound proof. Most airport hotels block out the majority of airport noise, not so at the Element. Luckily most flights seem to end at 11 and start back up at 7am.

Room Tip: Pick one to overlook the pool.
