3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

It's just an average modern hotel.
No wow factor or any major negatives.
Location wise we should have stayed at a hotel on the river or sea front and nearer to Bayside. No benefit of having view affected by other hotels or being a 15 walk from Bayside.
Negatives - horrible smell in our bedroom for the first 24 hours. A/C very noisy and other strange whining noises. A/C too noisy in children's room to even use.
Would have expected a his and hers sink in the bathroom.
Then just little things that decent hotels would just do e.g. replacing the used water bottles each day without us having to ask, replacing the coffee with the same strength as we had used rather than weaker pods.
Pool area is nothing special.
Fairly underwhelming given the TripAdvisor reviews.

High Class; High Tech; High luxury; High Comfort; and High Service! This is how I would describe the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. It is a gorgeous hotel with an extremely large and extensive fitness gym full of cardio equipment, weights, and work out stations. I love their chilled eucalyptus face cloths in the fridge for us to use. The size of the fitness room is huge and overlooks the bay Bricknell, and their pool. There is absolutely no gym smell when you walk in and all equipment is so new! There is always ample of fresh fruit for you to enjoy along with citrus infused water.

On the same floor as the gym, 20th floor, is also the spa which is free for guests to use as well. There are showers and sauna but no steam room. Again, it is extremely clean and new!

One floor down, you will find their aluminum floored pool which ranges from 4feet to 5 feet in the center. The water tasted somewhat salty so perhaps they use salt for the pool? On a sunny/partly cloudy day, it will get sun from about 10am onwards until 4pm only. After 4, the pool is in complete shade. There are ample of loungers, sofas and tables where people can congregate, socialize, smoke, and you can even bring your own drinks up to enjoy as there is no pool service.
The little hot tub is clean, 3 feet deep, and it's mainly in the shade. I love their pool hours as it doesn't close until 11pm.

On the same floor as the pool, 19th floor, is a virtual bowling alley with 2 lanes and the rental charge is $25/hour....it's a great venue for friends to get together and have fun as the room again is huge with many sofas, chairs, and tables. We had a fantastic time bowling!

There is also a billiard/pool table for the same rental charge and a basketball court for $120/hour.

We were kindly upgraded to a bayview room on the 34th floor overlooking bayside...the room is
drop dead gorgeous and huge. Everything in the room is electronically controlled by inserting your key in the slot beside the door. One huge flat screen in the room with a tv mounted in the mirrors in the washroom. The washroom is one of the nicest ones we have seen....deep soaker tub, marble surround shower, floor, and one piece marble counter sink all in one. It is just like taking a shower at home.

In the room is a mini bar which looks like it is sensored so we asked for a mini fridge to be sent up without charge. There is also an Illy espresso machine with 4 coffee pods, sugars, and creamers complimentary along with 2 pouches of French Dammann Freres teas. The leaves are in silk pouches like Forte Teas that Oprah likes...lol. Their jasmine green tea is extremely fragrant and tasty!

Our 2 double beds, not queen sized unfortunately, is very comfortable but I did find that it dips a little in the middle. Perhaps it is just the bed is too soft for us as we are used to sleeping on quite firm/hard beds at home. I love their duvet and huge pillows.

In the room a PC laptop is provided for your convenience and a huge writing desk, a sofa chair with a hassock. Everything about this room reminds me of the top chained 5 star hotels in Asia. Like I say, the property exudes luxury and comfort all the way.

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful especially on the 19th and 20th floor. Thank you to Paola who was great on the 19th floor reception as well as Adi on the 20th floor spa! Wonderful gals!

Concierge was good but I felt that they seemed to like to suggest transportation methods like taxis and hop on n hop off buses which all are costly. They don't seem to want to advise in taking the free sun trolley or the free metromover connecting to the $2 metrorail which are also quite convenient??? We took the free sun trolley which is one short block away from the hotel, infront of the CVS, which comes every 15 minutes and brought us to Bayside shopping as well as Mary Bricknell Village for more shopping and restaurants.

There isn't much to do nearby the hotel other than restaurants and fast food places and shops along Flagler street along with a very small and dated Macy. We found a small Cuban diner, hole in the wall, that serves great cuban coffee and breakfast for only $3.50. We also had their turkey club house sandwich with the crispiest french fries for just $5.80! The place is only 2 blocks away from the JW Marriott Marquis, called La Paris Cafe but it is nothing French! We also had their freshly squeezed OJ for about $3.50 and a hot daily plate special for $6.75 to $7.00.

Nearby, there is a Pizzahut, Starbucks, Pollo Tropicale, La Provence, real French bakery with fantastically sinful French pastries and desserts, Iron Sushi eat in or take out which we did. There are many other restaurants like Italian cuisine and burger/sandwich places nearby as well.

Of course, there are restaurants in the hotel like Daniel Bolud's bistro and Friday nights from 4 to 7pm is happy hour with $10 appie plates. Upon check in we were given a free appy coupon with the purchase of one entree. On the 2nd floor in the hotel is a little coffee bar selling coffee, juices, sandwiches and pastries along with two other restaurants? We found we didn't need to buy coffees as the Illy in the room was already provided (4 pods)

In all, the JW Marriott Marquis is drop dead beautiful and we will definitely stay here again when we are visiting downtown Miami. We love the property very much!

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at this property making it so beautiful and gorgeous!

Room Tip: We were in room 3417 and it overlooked the bay....beautiful view.

Excellent property that is only 2 years old and making great use of technology. Our room was good size and had a water view. The beds were outstanding. Towels were refreshed at night. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The location is in the downtown and about 15 minutes from the beach. There are restaurants within walking distance. The only parking option is valet for $36 per night. It seems that most near by parking options are expensive. The pool is on the 19th floor and is a nice plus. The fitness center is outstanding. The buffet breakfast is very good, but expensive. Pricing off season should be good. All in all, we had a great stay.

This hotel is 5-star excellence across the board. In this day and age of charging for every tiny hotel amenity, this property really gets it right. Free Illy coffee, free computer terminal in each room (and free wifi), great bath products, and luxurious bedding.

A couple of things to note - 1) parking is a major pain on weekdays. Getting into the entrance can be difficult due to the limited front entrance space. Beware if you are driving or renting a car - a taxi works much better (and rates are reasonable); and, 2) we enjoyed the Black Bird bar (pricey but relaxed atmosphere) and Tobacco Road bar. Both are short taxi rides away and very entertaining.

I had been to the Marquis in Dubai and it is truly spectacular. I couldn't really imagine the Miami JW Marquis could match it? Happily I felt the same level of exquisiteness, professionalism and excitement. It's an amazing hotel and if you can pull off an upgrade its top notch! The location is great! Only walking distance or short ride to and from all the Miami essentials (as long as there is no traffic :) )
I cannot recommend staying anywhere more awesome than a JW Marriott Marquis! It is so lovely!

Lovely large room and bathroom. Loved the swimming pool although its in the shade for a lot of the day so you have to pick the right time. The spa is very underwhelming and I doubt if they do that much business. I didn't think that any of the restaurants were that great and the Met Cafe/Bar food was very average for a supposedly 5 star hotel. DB Bistro is the fine dining restaurant within the hotel, but it was also somewhat disappointing for the price and I definitely would not go back and the bench seats attached to the wall are just so uncomfortable due to the height of the table. The breakfast served in ThreeFortyFive is fine but not a great selection from the buffet.

This hotel is in downtown Miami and there really is not much to do in the evenings.
