High Class; High Tech; High luxury; High Comfort; and High Service! This is how I would describe the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. It is a gorgeous hotel with an extremely large and extensive fitness gym full of cardio equipment, weights, and work out stations. I love their chilled eucalyptus face cloths in the fridge for us to use. The size of the fitness room is huge and overlooks the bay Bricknell, and their pool. There is absolutely no gym smell when you walk in and all equipment is so new! There is always ample of fresh fruit for you to enjoy along with citrus infused water.
On the same floor as the gym, 20th floor, is also the spa which is free for guests to use as well. There are showers and sauna but no steam room. Again, it is extremely clean and new!
One floor down, you will find their aluminum floored pool which ranges from 4feet to 5 feet in the center. The water tasted somewhat salty so perhaps they use salt for the pool? On a sunny/partly cloudy day, it will get sun from about 10am onwards until 4pm only. After 4, the pool is in complete shade. There are ample of loungers, sofas and tables where people can congregate, socialize, smoke, and you can even bring your own drinks up to enjoy as there is no pool service.
The little hot tub is clean, 3 feet deep, and it's mainly in the shade. I love their pool hours as it doesn't close until 11pm.
On the same floor as the pool, 19th floor, is a virtual bowling alley with 2 lanes and the rental charge is $25/hour....it's a great venue for friends to get together and have fun as the room again is huge with many sofas, chairs, and tables. We had a fantastic time bowling!
There is also a billiard/pool table for the same rental charge and a basketball court for $120/hour.
We were kindly upgraded to a bayview room on the 34th floor overlooking bayside...the room is
drop dead gorgeous and huge. Everything in the room is electronically controlled by inserting your key in the slot beside the door. One huge flat screen in the room with a tv mounted in the mirrors in the washroom. The washroom is one of the nicest ones we have seen....deep soaker tub, marble surround shower, floor, and one piece marble counter sink all in one. It is just like taking a shower at home.
In the room is a mini bar which looks like it is sensored so we asked for a mini fridge to be sent up without charge. There is also an Illy espresso machine with 4 coffee pods, sugars, and creamers complimentary along with 2 pouches of French Dammann Freres teas. The leaves are in silk pouches like Forte Teas that Oprah likes...lol. Their jasmine green tea is extremely fragrant and tasty!
Our 2 double beds, not queen sized unfortunately, is very comfortable but I did find that it dips a little in the middle. Perhaps it is just the bed is too soft for us as we are used to sleeping on quite firm/hard beds at home. I love their duvet and huge pillows.
In the room a PC laptop is provided for your convenience and a huge writing desk, a sofa chair with a hassock. Everything about this room reminds me of the top chained 5 star hotels in Asia. Like I say, the property exudes luxury and comfort all the way.
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful especially on the 19th and 20th floor. Thank you to Paola who was great on the 19th floor reception as well as Adi on the 20th floor spa! Wonderful gals!
Concierge was good but I felt that they seemed to like to suggest transportation methods like taxis and hop on n hop off buses which all are costly. They don't seem to want to advise in taking the free sun trolley or the free metromover connecting to the $2 metrorail which are also quite convenient??? We took the free sun trolley which is one short block away from the hotel, infront of the CVS, which comes every 15 minutes and brought us to Bayside shopping as well as Mary Bricknell Village for more shopping and restaurants.
There isn't much to do nearby the hotel other than restaurants and fast food places and shops along Flagler street along with a very small and dated Macy. We found a small Cuban diner, hole in the wall, that serves great cuban coffee and breakfast for only $3.50. We also had their turkey club house sandwich with the crispiest french fries for just $5.80! The place is only 2 blocks away from the JW Marriott Marquis, called La Paris Cafe but it is nothing French! We also had their freshly squeezed OJ for about $3.50 and a hot daily plate special for $6.75 to $7.00.
Nearby, there is a Pizzahut, Starbucks, Pollo Tropicale, La Provence, real French bakery with fantastically sinful French pastries and desserts, Iron Sushi eat in or take out which we did. There are many other restaurants like Italian cuisine and burger/sandwich places nearby as well.
Of course, there are restaurants in the hotel like Daniel Bolud's bistro and Friday nights from 4 to 7pm is happy hour with $10 appie plates. Upon check in we were given a free appy coupon with the purchase of one entree. On the 2nd floor in the hotel is a little coffee bar selling coffee, juices, sandwiches and pastries along with two other restaurants? We found we didn't need to buy coffees as the Illy in the room was already provided (4 pods)
In all, the JW Marriott Marquis is drop dead beautiful and we will definitely stay here again when we are visiting downtown Miami. We love the property very much!
Thank you to all the wonderful staff at this property making it so beautiful and gorgeous!
We were in room 3417 and it overlooked the bay....beautiful view.
