“A good place to stay:-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

A very clean, pleasant and comfortable place to stay. Breakfast is included. It's a good idea to have your own transportation as it's not the place on the beach. But everything else is very good!
Big rooms, helpful staff, swimming pool, corner shop, kitchenette, price.

not a bad hotel, price ok, location ok. Staff was nice and the rooms are not the cleanest. I have stayed at way worst places in Miami. So this is a plus. Not bad if you are a sound sleeper, you can hear people outside your room. Other than the feew flaws i would stay again.

I read several rave reviews about the New Yorker before I confirmed my reservation. I'm not finding this hotel has lived up to such reviews.

First off, the hotel rooms are not very clean. There were fingerprint marks on the inside of my door, the baseboards and the floor near the baseboards are something you don't want to stare at for too long. The bathroom was so small and inconvenient (balancing your shaving kit on the toilet, no outlets) that if you were sharing a queen room with someone, you wouldn't leave here liking each other anymore.

The room never felt very cool since the A/C was set into the far wall of a small alcove/closet. At night I never covered myself with more than a sheet, and I was still too warm, although the A/C was at its coldest setting. (You know the A/C isn't doing its job when everything feels damp - your clothes, your bathing suit never dries, etc.)

You cannot circulate the air at night to assist the A/C because, unfortunately, the ceiling fan operation is coupled with the overhead light. If you want to leave the ceiling fan on, you'll have to sleep with the ceiling light glaring in your eyes. That right there is a bad design decision.

I was thankful that there was parking on the premises (on a first-come, first-serve basis). The ice machine is located in the office, but get a load of the door of the ice-machine room. It will make you long for a bottle of 409 and a scrubbing sponge: it is covered with black, grimy fingerprints.

The TV received a small number of channels, then even less if you don't speak Spanish. I found my room to be quite depressing. There is minimalist, then there's depressing.

The continental breakfast was fine. I didn't find the noise levels to be excessive, since the hotel does sit on a main road. (The hotel kindly provides ear plugs.)

The area is not as ghastly and dangerous as some warned. My complaint wasn't with walking around the area as much as that there is virtually nothing to walk to. The New Yorker is certainly not located in a happenin' place.

Great staff, the lady at the reception made me feel like home, and was so sweet to everyone that I could see. Perfect destination in Miami is you are in a budget. The bed was HUGE.
Didn't got to enjoy the pool or breakfast, but I could see people using and they seem to enjoy.
Will come back! For sure!

Room Tip: Ask for one by the pool they`re suppose to be more quiet.

Great staff, great breakfast and patio, pool area is also great, rooms are good, nice look, the bathroom is a bit old, it can be a bit noisy ( you can hear the people walking in the room above if you re on the ground floor) but I d stay there again, no hesitation!

Room Tip: By the pool

Amazingly friendly, helpful staff. Continental breakfast served outside in a beautifully appointed patio/courtyard area...so lovely! Pool area was beautiful, too.

The Good: Loved the feel of this hotel; just really, really cool. Our 1st trip to Miami, and this hotel helped set the stage for an "authentic Miami experience". We loved the room. They provided free waters in the fridge and earplugs for the noise. Thoughtful! I requested upstairs room facing pool and they granted it.

The Bad: Drive in from Biscayne Blvd/95 exit or you'll go through some sketchy neighborhoods. Parking was an issue, as well. (Single Mom so I felt nervous late at night leaving my van on back side street, then walking with kids.) Owners need to fix tile grouting around tub--little thing that makes huge difference-- and electrical outlets; they need to remove industrial orange extension cords from rooms, too. (And really? Michael Jackson poster over the bed? Cool, but just doesn't go with the 30s-60s vibe.)

Overall: I would definitely stay here, again. We had a great time; wish we'd had more time here.

Room Tip: Upstairs, facing pool.

This a true 60's boutique hotel. We visit Miami often and will definitely stay again. The rooms though quaint were neat and clean. The staff was friendly and pleasant. Thumbs up! The free parking and free wifi make this a very smart stay. There are coffee shops and restaurants in walking distance and just a short ride to South Beach.
