Sometime life brings us surprises that we really didn’t expect and this is exactly what happened to me and my husband in April when we were going for a cruise. Our first plan was to go to Miami the night before our departure for a cruise in the Southern Caribbean, rent a room near the Port of Miami so we would be there in time for our cruise and wouldn’t have to worry too much… But that was not counting on Mother Nature who decided to send us the last snowstorm of the year and which completely changed our plans. Naturally, we couldn’t cancel the cruise, so we had to make sure we arrived before the storm hit Montreal, on Friday April 12. The Hotel we wanted to reserve was not available anymore, so I found another one… well I can honestly say that I discovered a little gem. Hotel Urbano (www.hotelurbanomiami.com). This hotel greets you with a butler that can either act as a valet to park your car or will take your luggage and bring them to your room. The gentlemen at reception will greet you with a smile, and will very quickly give you your key for your room. In the elevator they change the carpet 3 times a day, wishing you a “good morning”, “good afternoon” or “good evening”. The room is just exquisite and the bed is better then a cloud (I’m sure)! Bathroom is modern and spacious with all the necessary amenities. The backyard just invites you to unwind completely with 2 cabanas (with flat screen t.v.) and a sealing fan. The pool is also very inviting. There are tables at which you can order your food… and on that subject, I can honestly say that the cook for this hotel is more a “Chef” then a “cook”. Their french-fries are just to die for! This is a small hotel (65 rooms) that can definitively compete with the bigger hotels. It is very near to Key Biscayne Park… you can walk to it and go to the beach or you can take the little tram, which is free and has a stop right in front of the door and go downtown Miami to shop or walk around… This is truly an amazing place. The only down point would be the breakfast... VERY good... but quite expensive, especially that the coffee is not included and they charge 4$ for it!!! But that is not enough for us not to go back... The other very important service we discovered was a taxi driver… Carlos (Espinoza)… he was appointed to us by the Taxi dispatcher at the Miami airport. Not only was he very nice and drove well, but he took us around the hotel we were staying at, so we could see what was there. He’s the one who told us about the Key Biscayne, and all that at no extra charges! He also told us that if we needed him to come and pick us up on Saturday, to go to the Port, he would be pleased to do so. From past experience we know that often they say that, but when we actually call them… they never show up… Well guess what? He was there!!! In advance!!! So for all you who need a ride in Miami, here is his contact info: Carlos Espinoza 786-587-7612… And enjoy your stay in Miami while waiting to get to your cruise!
