Doral quoted me one price over the phone and when I went to check out after my stay they had doubled it. Luckily I had the women’s name that quoted me the room and she admitted that she had quoted that rate. Problem solved right? No, they said they did not care what rate she had given me they were charging me the rate they wanted. This fight will continue as I am going to alert my credit card company and ask that they not pay this charge.
The rooms are ok probably a 3*. The beds are horribly uncomfortable and the sheets are mediocre. The service is poor across the board...For instance when we arrived the bell men came out to help us with our bags and I made the mistake of giving him $5 to help us right away. He took the money and disappeared. We took our bags in ourselves.
As for the golf courses...I played the red and the blue monster. They were both ok, nothing spectacular and not worth the money. Both golf courses are in good to pretty good shape, but the designs are nothing special. With the exception of the famous 18th on the blue monster I was unimpressed. Another example of the less than spectacular service that Doral provides was the fore-caddy that is forced upon you by the resort. It is included in your greens fee on the blue monster. Out of 14 holes where I hit driver the fore-caddy managed to find 2 of them. Both of these were in the center of the fairway. I shot 78 that day so most of the time my ball was in the fairway or just off in the first cut of rough.
My one positive note on the resort…
After golf each day we ate at the grill by the clubhouse. It was expensive, $15 for a chicken sandwich, but it was very good and the service was great as well.
I would not return to this place if the room and golf were free. The amount of suffering I have dealt with since I left is not worth it. AVOID DORAL AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are looking for a golf resort that is nice where you will be treated like a human try ANY of the following…
Sea Island, Callaway Gardens, The Equinox, The Boulders, The Cliffs, The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, The Homestead, The Greenbrier, etc
