I had decided to visit the Barnacle State Historic Site since it was near my hotel. The walk up to the house was nice. There were interpretive signs along the hammock, which ended up being the only thing I got to check out. There is a $2 entrance fee that you pay along the way by putting the money in an envelope inside a big yellow post. At no point until you reach the house are you informed that you have to be on a tour to go inside. The tour costs more and only offered a few times a day.
Unless you know what time the tour is, expect to waste a day if you really are intent to see this site. It would've been nice to learn about some history, but they don't seem to care to share it with you.
