I am so glad I visited Vizcaya. This huge (30,000 square feet) home and its gardens are located on the shore of Biscayne Bay. Built by International Harvester founder, James Deering, in 1915, it is a study in opulence. At a time when Miami had a population of 10,000, over 1,000 of those were busy building this estate so it resembled a centuries old Italian villa. Deering had assembled a treasure trove of fine European antiques. He had the house built around this collection. The gardens match the house in its grandeur. There were orchids blooming, in February! Well worth the visit.
