“Beautiful hotel in good downtown location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

Couldn't complement the design of the hotel and our junior suite, all was tidy and beautiful. We were on the 10th floor and so didn't experience the issues with noise others have reported. Interestingly the pictures of the suites online we found to be entirely accurate as they were lovely, not our usual experience.

Service wise we asked the hotel receptionist for local restaurant recommendations and they gave us some fantastic options that we otherwise wouldn't have found.

Some slight niggly things:
1. Valet - the tech used behind the service didn't work, not only did they not receive the text to call the car, they also charged us four times on a three night stay where we used the service once. Not sure what's going wrong there but at least the hotel reception out it right immediately.
2. The hotel internet speeds are some of the worst we've experienced in recent years, despite opting for a 'premium' speed package at $13 a day. Again the hotel did omit the charge upon complaint however this should be a basic seamless and usually free service in any hotel this day in age.
3. Towels in the pool area were various shades of grey (not the white they once were) and many had permanent stains from tanning and sun cream. Whilst they were obviously clean, they were tatty and fell short of a 5 star experience.

Dear SachaM3,

Thank you for your feedback on your stay. The design of our hotel is so unique there is no way we could hide it with interesting camera angles. Its beauty speaks for itself. We appreciate your detailed feedback on the services that fell short during your stay with us. Be certain that we will use these to continue to improve on our service standards and overall guest experience.

I hope that when your travels bring you across the pond again, you will choose to Viceroy Miami as your hotel of choice.

Stayed at the Viceroy in December. The room had nice decor and it was clean. It was also an easy walk from this hotel to shops and restaurants.

Where I had an issue was the location of my room. It seems I was under their ballroom and unfortunately for me there was an event happening the night I checked in. The music was incredibly loud and at times sounded like elephants jumping on the ceiling. Called front desk twice in frustration to finally move my room. There is clearly an issue with sound proofing and that's why for me, my review of the Viceroy is average.

Dear WorldTraveller-Bajan,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your stay with us last December. We appreciate you letting us know of the noise disturbance you experienced in your room. We certainly will look in to the matter with our Engineering and see how we can avoid this in the future. I am glad to know that the location worked well for you. Our central location and proximity to nearby shops and restaurants make the hotel a great destination while in Miami. I hope you were able to experience our signature restaurant, 15th and Vine Kitchen and Bar. If not, it is a definite must.

We look forward to welcoming you once again in the near future.

We booked the Viceroy because we like to stay in a city a while and get to know it and love to have a full kitchen. Eating out is fun but for us, only when we want to, not every night.
Cost for a one bedroom unit on the 20th floor was $287 plus all the assorted taxes/ fees. Taxi trip from the airport was easy and only $25 at about 30 minutes travel time. Arriving at the hotel was impressive to say the least. There are bellmen everywhere and more help than you could ask for. The front desk staff were courteous and efficient. In fact throughout our stay, the staff were amazing.
We were allotted room number 2001 and as soon as we stepped off the elevator we got that feeling. You know the one where the lobby blows you away and the hallways look filthy like a rooming house. The room continued the gross tradition. Although when it was built it likely was spectacular, today it was not. The once white walls were stained with numerous debris from possible food fights and there were patches all over the walls where the drywall had been kicked in. The appliances were indeed Wolf and Sub Zero but in name only. Throughout the suite there were lights out, handles missing, stains, grime. I could go on. The bed was pathetic. It had a mattress with nothing under it except a few wood stats and was like sleeping in a hammock. Next morning's shower was an adventure. The water pressure was so bad we had to press against the wall where the taps were in order to get wet. The toilet set was falling off and there was a ton of mould in the room.
Next morning at sunrise the loud noise started from the windows as soon as the sun hit them. 6 am and it sounded like someone hitting the glass with a hammer. This lasted till 9am and we had had enough.
We were moved to room 4208 which had dollar store finishing's but a marginally better bed. The same banging from the windows for three hours a day and the same filthy space. Lights out all over, no lights at all really. Two in the kitchen/ living room. The bed actually had a piece of plywood under it.
After five days without sleeping we again went to the front desk. This time we were told the truth. The hotel has no control over the rental pool rooms and we were offered one of the "hotels" rooms.
It was way better but had almost no kitchen. I get most people do not cook on holiday but that is the only reason we stayed at this hotel. We tried to make the best of it, we really did. This time we were on the side of the hotel on a low floor and the road noise was heavy because there is a metal draw bridge that cars relentlessly roar over all night. This room was way nicer to say the least but still no sleep was in store for us.
The morning we left, we were in a hurry and didn't notice the two $35 Valet charges. $70 isn't much when we just spent $2700 but we didn't have a car..... ever!
We called the hotel from home and were told it would be looked into. it never was and I hope they use my $70 to clean that dump.
I regret staying at this hotel and would recommend it only for a base to party where sleep would be secondary. Three different rooms, all bad.To me a hotel sells sleep. This one did not.

Room Tip: Bring earplugs and your own bed.

Dear MitchCalgary,

Thank you for sharing your experience in so many details.

At Viceroy Miami, we genuinely care for our guests well being and strive to continue to improve all aspects of our services that we can positively influence.

This experience was clearly a miss for you which is a huge disappointment to me.

The Viceroy Miami residence product offers a great value compared to a hotel suite and many long term stay travelers do seek this type of accommodation. Since the design and amenities vary from the hotel, a habitual hotel traveler may be surprised by the differences. The residences are very spacious and the floor to ceiling windows offer spectacular views of Brickell, Downtown and Biscayne Bay.

Our team has looked into your noise concerns and did a full walk through of the residences that you mentioned to see if anything was amiss. Street noise is unfortunately something that is outside of our circle of influence and the drawbridge ongoing activity - a relaxing experience for some guests – can be troubling and negatively impact the quality of sleep for others.

Thank you again for your feedback which has been genuinely received as constructive and helpful.
Warmest regards,

Laurence Dubey

Stayed here for 1 night on our arrival in Miami. Stayed in a junior suite - very big! Hotel had set up our crib as requested and were so sweet with our daughter giving her a soft toy Manatee on check out! All the staff were great. Yes, you do have to valet park ($36) but they are quick & courteous & save a lot of hassle! Bathroom was huge and bed very comfy. Would recommend!

Dear realarder1976,

Thank you for your great feedback.I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope that you can make it back soon for more than one night !

I notice that you are from the UK and your daughter probably did not know what a manatee was: hopefully she saw a real one in the water as they often swim by in the morning though Biscayne Bay.

See you again soon, warm regards,

I was here for a conference and wouldn't pick this location if I were visiting Miami. That being said, the rooms were very nice. Some of the functions were held at the top of the hotel in a large room with sweeping views; others were held in a vey nice outdoor patio that is lower down. While were were there there were some issues with the elevators, but i got the sense that it was not usually a problem. When we arrived and wanted a late nigth dinner (10:30) we were told that only the limited menu was avaialable but that worked out

Dear TravellingMan113,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

We hosts many events at Viceroy Miami because of the unique nature of our spaces: Fifty is our evening lounge and can be used for private functions with sweeping views of the city over 180 degree spectrum! Quite spectacular!

ON the 15th floor, where our meeting rooms and restaurant are located, we have a beautiful pool deck with the longest infinity pool in Florida and an oversized fireplace designed by Philippe Starck.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding dinner: we already have extended hours and will continue to look at offering more selections for late diners.

We hope to welcome you back soon, on vacation hopefully!

It's the Viceroy. It should be luxury and beauty, but I was a bit disappointed by the front desk services and the quality of the suite. Nevertheless, once complaining about it at the Spa, all the staff did everything possible to make us happy. We didn't change room, but get a free breakfast. The Spa is amazing and beautiful, not big enough and not really practical: swimming pools are way to small, but you can enjoy the beauty of Starck work and the view on the town. the outdoor swimming pool, specially at night is a dream! Vallet parcking quite expensive, but who cares, you're in town!

Dear Patrick M,

Thank you for your feedback!

I see that you loved the Starck design at the Spa which is truly spectacular. That water lounge with dipping hot and cold pools, the massive Murano glass chandelier and a surprising large library gives you a whole new Spa experience - unmatched in this city.

Most of our repeat guests are biased towards our guest room décor designed by renowned Icon Kelly Wearstler: it is very busy and colorful in a very happy way!

I See that you live in my hometown of Lausanne: nice to see some compatriots visiting us from this far away. I would love to meet you if your travels bring you back to Miami soon.

Thank you and warm regards,

This hotel is first class. I have stayed here on four separate occasions and am always pleased with the rooms and pool facilities. The balconies are a welcome addition although it would be great if there was a table and chairs included.
The kitchenette is useful and the decor exquisite.
One comment regarding the room lighting as I have yet to have a room where you can turn off the bedside lamp while in bed! But the hotel is conveniently located for Downtown and close to Bayside.
The bar and restaurant is expensive but there are plenty of restaurants close by.Staff are always helpful

Dear Mobycliff,

I am very thankful to read that you have stayed with us on four occasions! Your loyalty to Viceroy Miami is very impressive!

The timing of your comment regarding balcony furniture is so interesting as we are currently looking at adding a seating option for our balconies based on similar feedback from other guests. Our view of the Brickell drawbridge has become a favorite for many travelers: in Miami, we take it for granted or rather, we complain about it stopping traffic too often, but it is a night sight from many of our guestrooms.

We will continue to work with our engineering team to improve on our guest rooms functionality: it is all about the details!

We hope to see you again soon! Thank you for choosing Viceroy for your Miami Home away from Home!
