5 star, apparently.
Check in was quick, efficient and friendly. In fact, all of the staff we met were friendly. Valet parking was, at $36 per day, IMHO expensive and i dont think that there is any other parking option.
The room was not large but that's to be expected in a city centre hotel. The room was well appointed. Big comfy bed with a curious 4 poster frame around it. The bed, frame or whatever was very noisy and squeaked and groaned at every movement... The bathroom was spectacularly appointed, with lots of chrome and marble, a nice big shower and a separate WC.
Two huge lamps with pottery bases took up about half the room desk space. Two more huge lamps dominated bed side tables. And another huge lamp dominated another table by the door.
Sink, fridge, microwave, cooker and quirky coffee maker in the room. But the stylish mirrored and fretted sliding doors meant that it was impossible to access the wardrobes and domestic appliances simultaneously .
The room was clean enough but not squeaky clean, as evidenced by the grubby floor mat after drying the bathroom floor after a shower. And the candies and dust bunnies under the bed where the vacuum didn't reach.
The room balcony was small and contained no furniture, so pretty useless really.
Plenty of objet d'art, sprinkled around the room, corridors, lifts and lobbies. As alluded above, much put style above function. A curious wire and steel sun sculpture in the lift prevented folks leaning against the lift handrail.
The pool area was pretty spectacular with lots of chairs, beds and sun shades. The terrace afforded great views over the water towards the cruise terminals and south beach. Not really much view of the city because of the higher surrounding buildings.
The resturant and bar were quiet on a Friday evening with a few folks eating and watching tv. There was also a dj. Not much in the way of atmosphere but good night time views. Several tables had uncleared plates and glasses and none of the bar staff seemed to wait at tables. The barman was friendly, but there was no other discernable service despite the automatic service charge.
Concierge/ bell folks didn't advise walking into downtown Miami across the draw bridge in the evening, so got a cab.
So in summary, very comfortable and stylish. But style should not supplant service and cleanliness.
