“Ritzy New-Age Hotel--Perfect for a Miami Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

I really enjoyed my stay at the Viceroy despite a few initial hiccups. If you keep your eyes open you can get steeply discounted rates, which make the stay a more affordable. We checked in late, but had called ahead to let them know we wouldn't be checking in until 9. Unfortunately, they gave our room away, but upgrade us to a suite. It was a nice gesture, but the suite was very sterile and it only had one bed. We asked to be moved on our second night to a regular room. It was well decorated and warm with a small balcony. My biggest issue with both rooms was the bathroom situation. In the suite, it was off of the bedroom, but the walls were paper thin which made it embarrassing to use. In the regular room the bathroom was "open" AKA there was no wall separating the bed from the shower and the shower had a see-through door. If you are staying alone no big deal, but if you are sharing a room with anybody other than a person who you want to share your most intimate bathroom moments with beware. The pool was amazing--just awesome. The spa was one of the most gorgeous spa waiting areas I've ever seen. Just immaculately decorated. I got a one hour massage and it was one of the worst massages EVER. I made a mention that I wasn't satisfied when I checked out and paid the $200 bill (with tip) and the receptionist apologized, but didn't offer me a discount. I later got a call from the manager and a 20% discount which was great, but I would have paid not to get the massage it was so awful. Point being, the Viceroy isn't perfect, but they sure try to be. I would stay here again in a second if I got a discounted rate.

Room Tip: Just make sure you ask a lot of questions about the rooms so the one you get matches your expectatio...

My wife, daughter and I just returned from two nights at the Viceroy. I had some pretty big expectations upon arrival, and was really looking forward to using the great pool on the 15th floor. Unfortunately, the weather in Miami after the 1st of the year did not cooperate.

Overall, I was very pleased with the Viceroy. We had a one bedroom suite and it was a VERY nice room. It was located on the 7th floor (the Viceroy rooms only go up to the 14th floor) overlooking the drawbridge / waterway and directly facing the Kimpton Epic. Lots of nice views of the yachts docking at the Epic. The service was very good. We ordered in-room dining three times during our two night stay and the food was very good, and the price was not unreasonable (as it usually is at a nicer hotel.) We also enjoyed the small kitchenette area with the espresso machine.

Our neighbors down the hall were dancing with Mary Jane the entire time we were there, which was interesting. The smell was never particularly bothersome unless the door to our room was opened. I did find it interesting that the hotel seemed to be trying to cover it up with perfume sprays in the hallway, and some sort of air purifying device. Funny they didn't just knock on the door and tell them it was a "non-smoking (weed, too) room", ha?!

I did find myself looking out our large balcony at the Epic across the water wishing we had stayed there. The views and pool deck from the Epic looked to be better than the Viceroy's. The 15th floor pool at the Viceroy is very impressive, but doesn't get a lot of sun in January and is a little crowded out by the residents of the buildings the Viceroy shares the Icon Brickell property with.

Overall, the rooms are some of the nicest we've stayed in. The service was top-notch, as was the in-room food. I was just a little disappointed with the location. If you want a better water view room from a higher location, I would really advise checking out the Epic. I believe their rooms go as high as 31 floors, vs. the 14th floor at the Viceroy.

Room Tip: I would definitely ask for a water view room on a high floor.

i stayed at the viceroy for 3 nights just after new years'. i booked a one room suite and before arrival i exchanged a couple of mails with the reservation manager to ensure that i got a quiet room not facing the highway, after reading some complaints from previous feedbacks.
the room was very nice and i did not have any problem with noise, the staff was helpful and kind.
i also liked the location in downtown, i would not have wanted to stay in the hustle of south beach, and there is some nice restaurants only a short walk away from the hotel.

We stayed at the Viceroy in December for 2 nights after a week cruise. Arrived early and room not ready. After a few hours, we were given a bigger room so it worked out well. Room very fancy but not child-friendly due to the lack of a screen between the glass wall of the bathroom and bedroom, but perfect for a couple.
The area around the hotel was very quiet and the only choice was to dine at the Mary Bricknell Village or the Bay Side which is more lively.

Yea, the art is Modern for the most part but the eclectic Easter Island Statues on the side entrance really set the tone for this fun filled, funky but upscale digs on the water. The occasional Pirate ship Fireworks at night as seen from the roof Spa are almost as spectacular as the enormous pool on the same12th floor but not as engaging as the quint little restaurant with the most creative, killer keylime pie we've ever had including the many in Key West woofed down in earlier years of wasted youth.
The room was spacious especially the marbelled bath area and the appointments all over the art deco map from ceramic dragons to replicas of elephant tusks. A wimsical setting from which to venture out to South Beach in a short taxi ride or play in Miami proper. The only negative was the staff; expect to have to follow up on your requests in order to achieve most of your arrangements.

We stayed at the Viceroy over Christmas 2011 and had a wonderful time. It was our first time in Downtown, as we usually stay in either Southbeach or Coconut Grove, but wanted to try something different. The hotel itself is very nice, and the rooms are fabulous (we had a one bedroom suite, and it was huge). The only negative is that it feels very residential - they do not have a bar by the pool and there are loads of children around the public areas. Downtown itself doesnt have alot happening, but is nice for a change of pace. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: The one bedroom suite has two bathrooms, and is very large. There is a coffee machine, and a separa...
