“Great hotel before boarding a cruise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We spent only one night at the Epic before boarding a Celebrity cruise ship at the Port of Miami, but what a great experience it was! We were on the 29th floor, with spectacular views of downtown Miami and (surprise!) the port! We had access to the business-class lounge on 29, which made the entire stay very special, with happy hour in the afternoon and breakfast selections in the morning. The wine tasting in the lobby, while good, did not compare to the club visit. The hotel itself is modern and quite grand, with a majestic lobby. The pool/spa area is wonderful and spacious. The room with a balcony was large, with a surprising open connection between the bathroom and the bedroom, which made soaking in the extra-large tub very pleasant. There is a drop-down shade for privacy, if desired. We appreciated the large flat-screen TV and free wi-fi. The hotel was an easy walk to Bayside Marketplace/Mall with lots of interesting shops and restaurants. We also discovered a bus to take us to South Beach that night for dinner on Lincoln Road. Eating outside in January was quite a treat! We almost missed the return bus, so watch the schedule. All in all, we were extremely impressed with the Epic and will certainly stay there again before and/or after any cruise out of Miami.

Room Tip: We were extremely pleased with the business-class levels on floors 29 and 30, with great views.

We stayed here last July as we were unable to get into other downtown hotels. Having stayed at Epic hotel in DC, I thought it was a safe choice! The room was quite nice although there was no view of the ocean.
The real bad experience was with the valet - constantly late - about a 25 minute wait, no matter whether you call from the room or not. During our stay, someone tried to break into the rental car in the valet parking area, and was informed by the attendant to check with my rental car for coverage!
It took the service manager another 48 hours to contact me and write the report, No follow up from the corporate office, or no response when I complained during check out! In fact got charged again for the room charges although it was already paid for through expedia.com.

I stayed here for two nights during spring break to take kids to a game before heading down to the Florida Keys. The concierge, Gabriel, was great in helping us find something to do the day before. He made all arrangements and checked in later to see how we enjoyed the day. He even took time to make a list of things for us to do on our way to the next destination. Everyone was very nice, accommodating, and engaging with the kids, from check-in to check-out. Even the waiter in the restaurant made sure to mention a dessert not on the menu he thought they would like (more kid friendly). The hotel has a very urban, adult vibe, but everyone went out of their way to make sure we had all we needed. Our two days in Miami turned out to be the favorite part of spring break!

This is a great hotel for couples or singles visiting Miami for fun. It could also work for business travelers but this place could get pretty loud in the lobby and the common areas. The hotel has two very good restaurants and a happy hour with nice and inexpensive champagne, which is one of Miami's best values. The rooms are very chic and clean with a nice bathroom. The location is also convenient to walk to Brickell or to drive to Miami Beach. I would not recommend this hotel for families but would definitely recommend it for couples or singles going to Miami for pleasure and even for business.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with ocean view

We were curious how the Kimpton boutique vibe would translate to an ultra modern, large inner urban venue - the Epic pulled it off just fine. The standard room was spacious, well appointed with the Kimpton flair. Nice amenities - door bell, fully stocked mini-bar, interesting layout, and comfortable furniture. Overall, great ambiance and a terrific location.

We found the staff to be very engaging and professional. The concierge service was exceptional. By the second day of our stay we were being greeted and treated like long-time regulars.

Really nice hotel when it comes to rooms and ambience - here I could give 5 stars but because of not so good service over all - and my comments below it comes to 3..

Some flaws: Restaurant Area 31 was for lunch and breakfast disapointing - slow not especially friendly and not professional service (except for hostess) and food mediocre.Table mats worn down - not all ways clean table.
Pool service bad - you have to go to the pool service everytime you want something (they gave water to people lying next to us without offering any to us several times) and food not so good - dry boring sandwiches.
Cleaning in room could be better - they didnt clean toilets one day and the terrasse was not cleaned - the table outside had spots from chocolate milk or something like that all the time.

If you want often to go to south beach this is not the place - to get your car could take ages everytime (chaotic!!) - especially at night - and taxi is expensive (and expensive to park around south beach).

Concierge allways busy - some of them good and some dont have so much knowledge.

But the decoration of the hotel and the rooms are very nice - also the pool area - so because of this I would stay here again.

Hotel staff was very helpful and nice. Hotel free breakfast very nice and fresh. Had a nice free happy hour. Spa was wonderful and so were the 2 pools. Room clean and had a nice view from balcony. Very quiet but Friday happy hour sounded fun. Everything great from start to finish. Hotel is located in a nice area if you want to walk. Beautiful walking paths and really close to everything. Cannot wait till next stay.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony room-view worth it and balcony very large
