We stayed at the Epic (club level) for three days in Mid-May after spending the previous days in South beach. We contacted Epic ahead of our schedule to confirm a couple of special requests and the Resort Manager, Jacqueline Ploettner, was exceptional in responding quickly and confirmed all our requests. Jacqueline and all the staff we had contact with in the club level were outstanding, even better than we expected! A special thank you goes to Gene, Mark and Rachel (I think that’s her name) for being so helpful and meeting our vegetarian dietary requirements.
The views from the room are nice, especially if you are facing the bay. The rooms and bathrooms are of a good size. The bathrooms have his and her sinks, shower cubicle and most have a deep soaking tub too. The balconies are nice to sit out on and view the boats coming to in to the bay area. The beds were large and very comfortable and soft, as were the 6-8 pillows – a great place to relax after a long day walking/driving around.
The continental breakfast in the club level is nice, although there is a bigger breakfast selection in the hotel’s main restaurant. We had a hot breakfast one day and the food was very tasty. The club level food at the 5 daily food presentations is nice and tasty, and the ability to have continuous free drinks, spirits and soft drinks is a real benefit and worth the extra for the club level The Club level concierges are helpful and knowledgeable on tourist information as well as local information (with recommendations for dinners etc) and there is a real personal touch in the Club Lounge.
The hotel is located on the bay, and is on the waterfront. There is a pharmacy within 2 blocks (i.e. 2-3 mins walk) and the metro/monorail station is very close by too. Biscayne Bay market is about a 10 minute walk and has some touristy shops and places to eat. Brickell Village is again about a 10 minute walk and has loads of great restaurants and bars and a really nice place to go for an evening stroll and have dinner – we went there every night and the atmosphere was great – well worth a visit. It was completely safe to walk there at night time from the hotel, but as with anywhere always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
For those wanting to go to South Beach, its probably about a 15-20 min drive max (unless you’re going in rush hour).
We didn’t get a chance to use the spa or pool, but both looked welcoming. We used valet parking and it was generally quick but its worth calling down to tell them to have your car ready if you are in a rush.
All in all, the hotel and staff are great, and service is exceptional. Given the price we paid, we would say its very good value for money, especially compared to south beach and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay down town.
A couple of tips - if you want to go see the aligators at the everglades, we'd recommend using Coopertown - they were really good. Its about a 30-40 min drive to the everglades from the Hotel and worth it. Secondly if you want to go to the Keys, its a good 3.5 hour drive to Key West. We drove through Key Largo and stopped at Isla Morado for lunch with a sea view - amazing views and food!
