“El Govenor Motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

El Govenor Motel is a nice place to stay while in Mexico beach, Florida. It sits right on the beach and all rooms have a private balcony, as well as stove, fridge, and microwave. The staff is both friendly and courteous and helpful. No breakfast is offere, BUT if you are going to stay awhile, go down to the supermarket and buy your own breakfast makings. All dishes and utensils are provided in the rooms. Saves a little money doing this. All in all, a nice place.

Room Tip: Preferably the higher up you are, the less you are bothered by the beach crowd noise, and you get th...

Great location, nice view of the Gulf. Room was spacious and clean, quite and everything worked. On site resturant and breakfast would have made this a five. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.Don't know if all the rooms have a refrigerator like mine but that was nice. I didn't need to drive to eat.

Room Tip: Be prepared to drive to get something to eat or do as I did and buy sandwich fixings. My room had a...

If you're after enjoying pure and original Florida beaches, means that you want to relax at a wonderful clean and perfect beach without the mass-tourism crowds and their noise and dirt - there is simply no other place than Mexico Beach. And in Mexico Beach there is no place like the El Governor Motel. It's a clean and cozy motel - all rooms have balconies facing the water, never been closer to the beach! No boardwalks. Just right there. Amazing view included. In the morning one can swim and see dolphins right in front. In the evening the bar is a great place to relax and watch the waves and sunset. The A/C worked fantastic - and the laundry machines and dryers also. The staff was ULTRA-kind to us - we're still honestly impressed! Coming some thousand miles all over from Germany and being lucky to stay at this peaceful and relaxing place was all worth it!

We were here over the 4th of July and it was horrible. We have stayed here before but it has really gone downhill. The main problem with this hotel is the Bar area. It includes the covered outside area and the pool. We went with a group of people and spent well over $200.00 the first night. The next day we took a soda and sat down and were told we could not do that. Yet other people had coffee and drinks and were told nothing. It was raining so it would have been nice to able to go into the covered area. The "bartender" is mean and rude. She stalked us the whole time and we were all uncomfortable. You couldn't even walk through to the pool without her chasing you down. They say it is a kid friendly place, but its not. Bartender told us the kids could not even have water or juice boxes in covered area. Toucans got our money the rest of the week as we didn't want to deal with her bad attitude. The room itself was OK...found old tomatoes in the fridge and their was hair all over the bathroom. Elevator was broke all day on the busiest day of the year (4th of July).. When it was running it went so slow, that we took the stairs. I can handle a lot of things, but rude, obnoxious people aren't one . We will not be returning to this place again. Save your money and rent a house...I know we will be doing just that next time!

Room Tip: Rental houses all over the place......best deal going

Wasn't sure what to expect when we booked a room at the El Governor. Positive reviews outweighed the negative, one common denominator with all reviews is that the EL Governor is a older building and the furnishings are outdated, I couldn't agree more. However the room was clean, the A/C worked fantastic, no moldy smell (which is what I feared), and the building is solid. We stayed 4 days and only once did we hear anyone and I believe that the person above dropped something on the floor. All rooms have balconies facing the water, never been closer to the beach. If you want to relax this is the place, don't plan a trip here if you're looking for fast food, and tourist attractions, not gonna find it. The sidewalks roll up at 9:00. One perk that worked for us since my husband was working at the base nearby is the option for a late check out for an additional $35.00 fee, this allowed us to have the room until 5:00 pm.

Great play to stay... bring your own pillow if you're picky but otherwise it's great!

Wonderful town, friendly locals.

Hotel has great bar, beautiful view of ocean on balcony with every room. Didn't go in the pool but the beach was awesome!

Room Tip: Loved the 4th floor views in the main building. The place was sold out... got the last room! The a...

Let me start off by saying don't go here if you are looking for a fancy condo with all the frills. The El Governor is a motel right out of the 60s/70s and I loved it! The rooms all have a kitchenette and private balconies overlooking the ocean ... literally only steps away. This was the closest I have ever stayed to the water. No boardwalks. Just right there. They have a small pool, gift shop and a Tiki Bar (with live music). You couldn't ask for any nicer folks than the staff there - very friendly. Would definitely recommend it for a quiet getaway! We spent our 34th anniversary with them.
