“THE PLACE TO GO!”

For the past several years, we have made Mexico Beach our only vacation destination in Florida. Although the El Governor is an older hotel, it is very clean and the views are spectacular. Each room has a balcony overlooking the beach. Our room had two double beds and a kitchenette. It is a very safe place to stay, also. The staff is the best and makes a good cup of java (complimentary). If you decide to vacation here, be sure you have breakfast at Sharon's Cafe. The pancakes have a special topping. You'll have to just order them and check it out for yourself. The staff at Sharon's will make you feel like you're sitting in a friend's kitchen with a great cup of coffee. We enjoy Toucan's, the Port St. Joe Marina (Dockside Cafe), and the ice cream shop in Mexico Beach (I believe it's called Scoops Up). If you want to relax, definitely make Mexico Beach your next vacation spot.

“good value”

El Governor Motel

Jan 1, 2008

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the El Governor Motel in Mexico Beach, Florida. It was a very good value for a simple, no thrills property. We had a private, ocean front balcony, king bed, small fridge and a microwave. We were so close to the beach we could hear the waves from inside the room. The room appeared clean and the employees were pleasant. Mexico beach, Florida is VERY QUIET, not much to do, but if you want small town peace and quiet, long walks on the beach and time to read a good book, this might be a good choice. The new Marina in nearby Port St. Joe is a nice place to visit. We had some good massages at the day spa in Port St. Joe. Apalachicola is a worthy day trip as well. P.S. if you stay at the El Governor there is no need to get a room any higher than the 3rd floor for a great view, there is only 1 old, slow elevator.

“Basic, but Great Location”

This was a nice hotel with a great beach location. We visited in the off season and had the place pretty much to ourselves.

Rooms were basic, but had microwave and refrig. One thing I did wonder was how they cleaned the dishes that were provided in that I didn't see any replacements on the maids carts.

Wireless internet was weak on the west end of the building, but they moved us to the other end and had no problems.

Mexico Beach is a great location, and we would visit again and stay at this hotel again.

“Loved everything about this place!!”

My husband and I just spent 9 days in this hotel and we enjoyed every moment of it. We loved the fact that the rooms have a kitchen in them. We were very impressed with everything. And you cannot beat the price in the off season. If you want peace and quiet this is the place to be in the fall. The rooms were very clean and we loved the balcony view. I have read most all of the reviews of this place and the ones who have problems seem like people who could not be pleased with anything. No, they don't provide shampoo in the rooms. So what? Hey lady, bring your own. And the towels were not worn out as one review says. They were thick and white as snow and looked brand new. I am a person that is sometimes hard to please and I found no fault with this place. I recommend it very highly to anyone. It is especially nice for the "older generation" who don't have to have a lot of night life or excitement going on every minute. We will be back. We are actually thinking of going back next month we loved it so much.
